Universal Pictures and Peacock forked over an amount somewhere in the range of $400 million to acquire the rights to distribute a trilogy of sequels to the 1973 classic The Exorcist, which we’re going to another collaboration between Blumhouse Productions and directed David Gordon Green (who recently delivered a trilogy of Halloween sequels), they were definitely expecting the first entry in the new trilogy to go over better with audiences than The Exorcist: Believer did when it was released last October. (You can read our 4/10 review Here.) The box office numbers were okay, the movie pulled in $137 million on a $30 million budget, but Universal was hoping for a lot better than “okay,” and the reactions were largely negative. Soon after the release of Believer, we heard that Universal and Blumhouse still intended to carry out the trilogy, but the follow-ups would be reworked. While speaking to The Direct this week, producer...

Friday the 13th and Spooky Season converge this month, so what better time to see an “Exorcist” sequel? “The Exorcist: Believer” is a follow-up to the iconic 1973 film, dubbed my many as the scariest movie ever made. This new movie promises frights and terror in equal measure, and if you’re not seeing Taylor Swift’s concert movie or are looking for something scary to watch, you may be wondering where, exactly, you can see “The Exorcist: Believer.”
Here’s everything you need to know.
Is “The Exorcist: Believer” in Theaters or Streaming?
The film opened exclusively in theaters on Oct. 6, so right now the only way to see it is to buy a movie ticket. However, you won’t have to wait long to catch the film at home. The film is currently available on PVOD and will be streaming on Peacock on Dec. 1.

Since these are full body shots and demons don’t wear clothes in Hell, these images might be considered Nsfw, so I’m just going to link to them. Van Dyke’s post can be found Here and Nelson’s is over Here. One image of the demon can be seen at the bottom of this article.

The Exorcist: Believer (our review can be read at This Link), the latest entry in the Exorcist franchise, didn’t go over well with critics or the general audience… which pretty much makes it a typical Exorcist movie, because none of these movies – other than the original The Exorcist and Exorcist III – are very popular, even among the horror crowd. It has managed to pull it more than $107 million at the global box office since being released earlier this month – and now it has been announced that it’s going to be reaching PVOD tomorrow, October 24th!
According to Syfy Wire, The Exorcist: Believer will be available to rent and/or purchase for $29.99 on PVOD services like Vudu and Apple TV. It’s up for pre-order on Amazon’s Prime Video at This Link.

There’s a new Exorcist movie in theatres now, The Exorcist: Believer (read our review Here), and for the first time in the franchise Ellen Burstyn reprises the role of Chris MacNeil, the character she played in the 1973 classic The Exorcist. Her presence has been a major selling point in the marketing of this movie – but there’s another returning cast member who makes a brief appearance in the film. We heard months ago that Linda Blair (who was also in Exorcist II: The Heretic) would be showing up in The Exorcist: Believer, and during an interview with People magazine director David Gordon Green talked about reuniting Burstyn and Blair for “a beautiful moment”.
Green told People, “It was just a really special moment to be a part of that reunion, to be a part of that legacy, the connection that’s so monumental that the two of those performers have.

There’s a new Exorcist movie in theatres now. The Exorcist: Believer (read our review Here) is tracking to have the highest opening weekend of the entire franchise and might end up pulling in an amount somewhere in the range of 30 to 36 million. Its theatrical run got started last night, and according to The Hollywood Reporter it drew in $2.85 million from those Thursday preview screenings.
Most of the film’s reviews are negative – it currently has a 20% score on Rotten Tomatoes and JoBlo’s own Chris Bumbray described it as “abysmal” – so we’ll have to wait and see if that’s going to have any impact on the opening weekend box office.

So October has finally arrived and the studios are truly “bringing out the big guns” in order to “scare up” some box office bucks at the ole’ haunted multiplex. We’re talking the “classics” here. No, it’s not another Scream entry, since this one goes back a lot further in fear film history. Not as far as the “thirsty Count” since we’ve had two flicks about the true first “bat-man” in the past year. But it is older than the Halloween (the crew behind the last three are behind this one) series or the assorted other sinister stalkers. We can call this a fright franchise since there have been four (some say five) entries and even a short-lived TV series. And it all started exactly fifty years ago as a best-selling novel was adapted into what was then the most profitable horror movie ever (for at least a...

Everything that sprouts from the soil of The Exorcist pales in comparison, with only Jeremy Slater’s The Exorcist series (canceled far too soon after just two seasons) living up to the standards of William Peter Blatty’s book and William Friedkin’s film adaptation. With the bar set incredibly high, the odds were against The Exorcist: Believer from the start. And, unfortunately, not even the much-ballyhooed return of Ellen Burstyn as Chris MacNeil can cast out the dreaded sequel demons.
The film kicks off with a flashback that only fills in minor story elements (since this is only part one of a planned trilogy). 13 years ago, married photographers Victor and Sorenne were visiting Haiti when a devastating earthquake struck the city. Victor escaped unharmed, but Sorenne was gravely injured. She survived just long enough to give birth to their daughter,...

Fifty years ago, writer William Peter Blatty and director William Friedkin changed the face of possession horror with the seminal feature The Exorcist, which inspired sequels and prequels that never quite reached the same box office highs of the original, along with a short-lived TV series. Director David Gordon Green and Blumhouse, fresh off the recent Halloween trilogy, reteam for a new chapter, The Exorcist: Believer, once again eschewing all canon beyond the original film. Introduced as the first in a new trilogy, Believer attempts to comment on religion in a modern world. However, its thinly sketched narrative and reliance on nostalgia works against it.

In the long history of horror films since the dawn of cinema, it would be hard to imagine any of them quite having the particular impact of 1973’s The Exorcist, which became the first horror film to be nominated for the Best Picture Oscar along with nine other nominations including Best Actress for Ellen Burstyn. It eventually won two Academy Awards: for William Peter Blatty’s screenplay based on his 1971 novel, and for the bone-chilling sound work. When I saw it as a young kid in its original incarnation at the National Theatre in Westwood (now no longer existing), there were lines like you have never seen wrapping completely around the block. Warner Bros even put a nurse on duty in the lobby for those who passed out — no mere gimmick because it actually happened.

We’ve seen what director David Gordon Green and Blumhouse Productions could do with the Halloween franchise, three times over. Now we’re going to see what they can do with the Exorcist franchise when The Exorcist: Believer reaches theatres this Friday, October 6th. This movie is meant to be the start of a new trilogy of Exorcist sequels, and Universal Pictures and Peacock forked over an amount somewhere in the range of $400 million to acquire the rights to distribute this trilogy… so they’re probably very glad to hear that the film is tracking to have a franchise record-breaking opening weekend.
Deadline reports that The Exorcist: Believer, which will be playing on 3600 screens, is expected to have a domestic opening weekend in the 30 to 36 million range. Currently, the R-rated reboot/sequel is trending demo-wise like The Nun 2, which saw a $32.6M opening, meaning it’s great with the 18-34 demographic,...

Last week, Universal Pictures moved the theatrical release of The Exorcist: Believer forward a week to October 6th so they could avoid opening weekend competition from the Taylor Swift concert film Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour on its original release date, the 13th. To make sure we don’t forget the movie is coming a week earlier, Universal has now released a new trailer for it, and you can check that out in the embed above.
Director David Gordon Green recently finished working on a trilogy of Halloween sequels for Universal and Blumhouse that consisted of Halloween (2018), Halloween Kills, and Halloween Ends. Now he’s working with the companies on a trilogy of sequels to the 1973 classic The Exorcist (watch it Here) that begins with Believer. David Gordon Green directed the brand new sequel to The Exorcist for Universal, Blumhouse and Morgan Creek that will pave the way for a new trilogy. This first film in the trilogy will now be released theatrically on October 6, 2023, with Leslie Odom Jr. starring.

Who would you pick to come out on top in a battle of wills: The horrifying power of the supernatural, or the immovable object that is Taylor Swift? If you chose the latter, congratulations on being among the first to realize that we well and truly must be living in a simulation. On the heels of today's barn-burning news that Taylor Swift's Eras Tour will be making its way to theaters in a special cinematic event, the rest of the industry is now scrambling to get out of its way. Swift's first victim is none other than "The Exorcist: Believer," which is now moving off its oh-so-perfect release date of Friday, October 13, 2023.
The shift was announced by Jason Blum himself on Twitter in a tacit acknowledgement that the rest of the movie business simply must adapt or die against the sheer power of the Swifties. The horror studio head...

13 is an important number to musician Taylor Swift. She considers it to be her lucky number. As she has said, “I was born on the 13th, I turned 13 on Friday the 13th, my first album went gold in 13 weeks. Also, my first song that ever went number 1, it had a 13 second intro, I didn’t even do that on purpose!” She had more examples to give, but the point is – when it was announced this morning that her concert film Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour is going to reach theatres nationwide on Friday, October 13th, it totally made sense. And now, in response to that announcement, Universal Pictures, Blumhouse Productions, and Morgan Creek Entertainment have decided to move their film The Exorcist: Believer forward one week from its October 13th release date to avoid having to compete with Taylor Swift on its opening weeked. The Exorcist: Believer will now reach theatres on October 6th.

This Halloween season’s biggest theatrical release is The Exorcist: Believer, a brand new “legacy sequel” to the original horror classic directed by the late William Friedkin.
As the trailers have previewed, not one but two main characters are possessed by the devil this time around, and a new image from Empire today doubles down on that promise.

William Friedkin, who won an Oscar for directing The French Connection, scored a nomination for The Exorcist and also helmed The Boys in the Band, Cruising, To Live and Die in L.A., Rules of Engagement and many others, died today in Los Angeles of heart failure and pneumonia. He was 87.
His death was confirmed by CAA via his wife, Fatal Attraction producer and former studio chief Sherry Lansing.
Friedkin beat out some serious heavyweights to win the Best Director Academy Award for The French Connection at the 1972 ceremony. Also up for the statuette that year were Stanley Kubrick (A Clockwork Orange), Peter Bogdanovich (The Last Picture Show) and Norman Jewison (Fiddler on the Roof). He would go up against more heavy hitters with The Exorcist two years later. George Roy Hill won that year for The Sting, also besting Bernardo Bertolucci (Last Tango in Paris), Ingmar Bergman (Cries & Whispers...

Pazuzu, is that you?
It sure seems like it in the first trailer released to the public for “The Exorcist: Believer.” This had already played at CinemaCon in April and absolutely terrified the audience. Now, viewers can get a jump on their Halloween season themselves. Watch it below.
Most notable about this entire sequel is the fact that it’s the first time Ellen Burstyn has returned to play Chris MacNeill, the D.C. actress terrorized when her daughter was possessed by a demon in the original “The Exorcist” in 1973. For all the subsequent sequels (and a prequel), she was absent as the franchise went in other directions. But in director David Gordon Green’s take on this material, produced by Blumhouse, he seems to be doing what he did with his 2018 “Halloween”: take an iconic star of the original film and let us see how those terrifying events...

Fifty years after William Friedkin’s landmark horror film “The Exorcist” terrorized audiences, a new installment has arrived. Ellen Burstyn returns as Chris MacNeil for “The Exorcist: Believer,” a follow-up helmed by David Gordon Green, who recently revived the “Halloween” franchise.
A sequel, “The Exorcist: Deceiver,” will hit in theaters on April 18, 2025, Universal announced Tuesday, along with releasing the trailer for “Believer.” They are the first two entries in a planned “Exorcist” trilogy.
“The Exorcist: Believer” features not one, but two demonic girls who become possessed after being saved from a supposed kidnapping. Burstyn’s MacNeil turns up at the doorsteps of their homes with a helping hand, having once had a possessed daughter of her own. Still, it’s uncertain whether the woman can truly save the two girls — covered in bloody Satanic markings and devouring pages of the Bible in the new footage.

David Gordon Green's "Halloween" trilogy proved to be one of the wildest swings to emerge from our current era of legacy sequels and revivals, sporting questionable lines of dialogue ("Evil dies tonight!") and a narratively suspect yet fascinating finale. In light of this, it's hard not to be intrigued (if also apprehensive) as to what the filmmaker has cooked up with his latest sequel to a landmark work of horror -- "The Exorcist: Believer."
Much like Green and producer Jason Blum's "Halloween" movies, "Believer" hopes to rejuvenate a flailing horror franchise that has gone in some rather bizarre directions since the '70s classic that started it all. The only difference? This time, Green isn't wiping the slate clean by removing the previous installments from the canon, the sequels and prequel (prequels?) alike. "I like all the 'Exorcist' movies," Green told Total Film in May 2022, adding...

Blumhouse Productions, Morgan Creek Entertainment, and director David Gordon Green are teaming up to make a new trilogy of The Exorcist sequels for Universal and Peacock, starting with The Exorcist: Believer – which is scheduled to reach theatres on October 13th. Like the original film, this one is about the possession of a young girl… but this time around, it’s actually two girls who get possessed. And you can take a look at them in the three newly unveiled posters at the bottom of this article!
Universal and Peacock forked over an amount somewhere in the range of $400 million to acquire the rights to distribute this trilogy. Green previously directed a trilogy of Halloween sequels. He crafted the story for The Exorcist: Believer with Peter Sattler (Broken Diamonds), then wrote the screenplay with Danny McBride (who wrote all three of the new Halloweens with him) and their Halloween Kills co-writer Scott Teems.
