While Blue Sky Studios has produced some great looking movies (the “Ice Age” films and “Horton Hears A Who”), only “Horton” impressed me with both its animation and story. However, since it was based on a Dr. Seuss book, that shouldn’t surprise anyone. Anyway, Blue Sky Studios, Fox Animation and director Carlos Saldanha have announced their next animated project and it’s called “Rio”. According to THR, the film follows the adventures of a nerdy macaw who leaves his small-town Minnesota cage for Rio de Janeiro. While I’m sure there is a lot more to the story, that’s the logline for now.
While the story sounds a little weak, they’re trying to get Anne Hathaway, Neil Patrick Harris and Rodrigo Santoro to voice the film. Anything that has Neil Patrick Harris voicing a character gets a pass from me. Of course, with the three “Ice Age” movies, »

We don't always report on voice casting for animated movies, but this one sounds interesting. Blue Sky Studios' next feature film is called Rio, about a nerdy macaw who breaks out of his small-town Minnesota cage and heads to the exotic Summer Olympic city of Rio de Janeiro. Fox has cast Anne Hathaway, Neil Patrick Harris and Rodrigo Santoro as the voice talent for the film in order for it to be ready for an April, 2011 release. Brazilian-born Carlos Saldanha, who has been developing the project for years and who also directed most of Blue Sky's films including Ice Age 1 through 3 and Robots, will be directing Rio. As with DreamWorks Animation as well, I'm always interested in Blue Sky's newest original projects, but they never seem to hold up in the end. The first Ice Age is the only film out of the five that Blue Sky has ... »

Anne Hathaway, Neil Patrick Harris and Rodrigo Santoro have signed on to voice the lead characters in the upcoming Fox animated film Rio. The film follows the story of a nerdy macaw who leaves the comforts of his cage in small town Minnesota and heads to Rio de Janeiro. Brazilian born Carlos Saldanha, who directed one of the biggest worldwide hits of all time in Ice Age 3 (no seriously, it is...), has been shepherding the project for years and will finally see it released in April of 2011.... »

The charming Anne Hathaway and funny guy Neil Patrick Harris will lend their voices to the characters in Carlos Saldanha's upcoming 3D animated adventure "Rio" for Blue Sky Studios and Fox Animation.
The Hollywood Reporter says "Rio" focuses on a macaw who abandons his small Minnesota town and heads to Rio de Janeiro to have a great summer. Rodrigo Santoro has also boarded the film's voice cast.
"Rio" is set to open April 8, 2011. Carlos Saldanha most recently directed the summer box office mega hit "Ice Age: Dawn of the Dinosaurs." He also helmed "Ice Age: The Meltdown" and co-directed the first film. »

Anne Hathaway and Neil Patrick Harris are flying down to Rio, or their voices are at least. The actors are in negotiations to lend their voices to the animated flick 'Rio,' according to The Hollywood Reporter. Produced in 3D digital animation, 'Rio' will chronicle the excursions of a nerdy macaw who escapes from his cage in a small Minnesota town for the colorful city of Rio de Janeiro. Harris recently lent his voice to the movie 'Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs.' Actor Rodrigo Santoro, a native of Rio de Janiero, is also reportedly cast in ‘Rio.’ According to The Hollywood Reporter, Fox Animation, who is behind this film along with Blue Sky Studios and director Carlos Saldanha, would not confirm this casting news. 'Rio' is expected to fly into theaters on April 8, 2011.

Following the behemoth of Ice Age 3: Dawn of the Dinosaurs ($880m in receipts and counting), the next 3D digital animation from Fox is set to be Rio. Anne Hathaway and Neil Patrick Harris are in negotiations for voice duties, and the director will once again be Carlos Saldanha. The story is not about Hathaway dancing on the sand, just like a river twisting through a dusty land, but a "nerdy mccaw" who escapes from his cage in Minnesota and heads south for some fun in the sun. Rodrigo Santoro (Xerxes in 300) is also in talks for a role.Harris, who also provided a voice for Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs, is doing rather well for himself lately, what with his ongoing series How I Met Your Mother, the Harold and Kumar appearances, and the awesome Doctor Horrible's Singalong Blog. Anne Hathaway, Neil Patrick Harris and Rodrigo Santoro are in talks to voice the animated feature Rio, for Blue Sky Studios, Fox Animation and director Carlos Saldanha, who also teamed up for Ice Age: Dawn of the Dinosaurs.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Rio follows the adventures of a nerdy macaw who lights out from his small-town Minnesota cage for the exotic Summer Olympic city of Rio de Janeiro. Like "Dinosaurs," it will be filmed in 3D digital animation.
Hathaway and Harris have done animation before. Hathaway voiced the lead role of Red in the Weinstein Co. release Hoodwinked in 2005, and Harris voiced a character in Sony Pictures Animation's Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs.

Is there anyone as cool as Neil Patrick Harris right now? I.m trying to think of someone, and I guess there.s always George Clooney, but even he doesn.t have the all-encompassing talent of Harris. The dude can sing, dance, act like a douchey womanizer even though he.s not really into women. He.s even great at being self-deprecating. If he spoke Aramaic, I.d swear he was the second coming of Jesus (my friend, Jesus [pronounced Heh-soos], not that god guy you.re thinking of). I guess he.s even good at being a voice actor because THR reports that he along with Anne Hathaway and Rodrigo Santoro have joined the cast of Rio, Carlos Saldanha.s latest animated movie about a nerdy parrot who travels to the exotic city of Rio de Janeiro. Both Harris and Hathaway have been successful in animation before, with the ... »

A sequel to “300” is ludicrous, unwarranted, impossible—and perhaps somewhat brilliant. Which is why everyone from Frank Miller to Zack Snyder toMark Canton avoid killing the proposed sequel, but nonetheless insist that if Miller can make it work, they’re in. Now, count in another co-collaborator: King Leonidas.
“I had an incredible time doing the first one, and I think that if the first one was a stand-alone, as a one-off, there’s no bad thing in that,” explained Gerard Butler when we caught up with him recently, saying he’d be willing to bring his character back to life—even if it meant re-animating arguably the most dead person in movie history (remember all those spears?). “But, you know, let’s see what it might bring forward with a second one.”
That said, Butler—who will be seen again on screen next week in F. Gary Gray’s revenge »

I’ve only walked out of two movies in my entire life: Cheaper by the Dozen 2 and, last week, Post Grad. I’ve come close to walking out of others but something or someone always gets me to stay in my seat. I first saw the trailer for Post Grad when I went to see I Love You, Beth Cooper (a movie that took every fiber of my being to sit through). I’ll be honest with you; I am recently out of college and jobless. I don’t know what made me think I could relate to Post Grad, but I knew I’d have to see it. If you read my last article, you know that I am also an absolute sucker for coming of age films. The added advantage that I have is the Optimum Rewards Card. Our thoughts: In Vicky Jenson’s “Post Grad,” Alexis Bledel stars as Ryden Malby, a recent college graduate who’s excited about entering the job market but quickly finds herself facing uncertain times when the job thing falls through and the lack of money forces her to move back in with her eccentric family. »

This week brings yet another easy weekend screening for me. Especially since, unlike last week, I haven't actually seen the highly anticipated upcoming release in question.
It's been a long time since director Quentin Tarantino served up a proper feature. There was "Death Proof" of course, which formed one half of "Grindhouse," and a brief bit in "Sin City." But the last feature-length solo effort from Tarantino was "Kill Bill: Vol. 2," and that was in 2004. While the Bride's tale of bloody revenge was a blast, I'm looking forward "Inglourious Basterds"' World War II adventure. Maybe it's the Jew in me, but the premise of American soldiers brutalizing Nazis while spouting Tarantino dialogue sounds exactly like my idea of a good time at the movies.
Those who are not quite as fond of the "Pulp Fiction" director's work have some good options to choose from, among them last week's excellent "District 9, »

"Gilmore Girls" star Alexis Bledel is set to star in her first feature film since last year's "Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants 2" in the new comedy about a new grad finding job in the midst of the U.S. recession.
In "Post Grad," the 27-year-old actress stars as Ryden Malby, who graduates from college during the country's recession period and is forced to move back in with her parents.
Ryden's story is similar to screenwriter Kelly Fremon's experience when she came out of college bursting with high hopes, only to hit a brick wall when she couldn't find a job. Associate producer Ali Bell of Montecito Picture Company read the script and found the truth in the story, championing the project to her colleagues.
Joining Bledel are Zach Gilford, Rodrigo Santoro, Jane Lynch, Fred Armisen, Bobby Coleman, Andrew Daly, Catherine Retiman, Craig Robinson, and Carol Burnett. Michael Keaton also stars. »
