Honorary Member of the Guild of British Camera Technicians
(GBCT).
In 1954 he started Samuelson Film Services, a camera/film equipment
rental company, and was instrumental in the founding of the British
Academy of Film and Television Arts (BAFTA).
He was made a Fellow of the British Film Institute in recognition of his outstanding contribution to film culture.
His mother was the actress Marjorie Statler whose films include For Valour and Two Little Drummers.
In 1976 he became the chairman of the management board of BAFTA. In 1991 was appointed the first British Film Commissioner.
