Jeremy Irons, currently appearing in HBO’s “Watchmen” and an Oscar winner with “Reversal of Fortune,” is to star in and produce biopic “Frankel,” which WaZabi Films will be selling at next week’s Afm.
Irons plays horse trainer Sir Henry Cecil, who fought years of failure and illness to make Frankel the greatest champion racehorse of all time, unbeaten in all 14 starts, and bowing out with an emotional victory in front of a capacity crowd at the Champion Stakes at Ascot Racecourse.
Irons produces the film, which is expected to go into production in the spring, alongside Andrew Berg and John Sachs of Eclipse Films. It is written by Jim Piddock and directed by Ron Scalpello.
WaZabi will handle worldwide sales on the film, and will co-sell the U.S. with CAA. WaZabi co-presidents Anick Poirier and Lorne Price said they “immediately connected with the determination and resilience of the story.

Eclipse Films is teaming with independent production company Gospel and specialist documentary distributor Dogwoof for a feature documentary about cricket legend Shane Warne. “Shane” will be produced by Eclipse, the feature arm of Eclipse Global Entertainment, and Gospel with Dogwoof handling worldwide theatrical sales. The three companies announced the project in Cannes on Wednesday where Dogwoof is introducing it to international buyers.
“Shane” will present an intimate portrayal of Warne, the retired Australian cricketer and larger-than-life character whose reputation on and off the green pitch saw his fame transcend cricket. As well as being widely considered as the greatest bowler of all time Warne’s personal struggles, including a drugs ban, a high-profile divorce, and tales of affairs with supermodels that made him a popular tabloid target, only proved to make him more relatable and popular with his fans.

Stepping out of his comfort zone, and into the boxing ring, we had the pleasure of sitting down with British actor Sam Claflin for his role in action thriller The Corrupted, directed by Ron Scalpello. In what proves to be something of a departure for the actor, we discussed with him what it was about this project that appealed to him, and why it’s important he seeks to try new and interesting things at this stage in his career.
Watch the full interview below:
We spoke with Claflin at the film’s press junket, as sadly we didn’t have the time to chat with him on set – as HeyUGuys were fortunate enough to be invited along to The Troxy in East London to take a sneak peak into the making of this gritty thriller. A feel-good British comedy in the vein of The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel, the new film Finding Your Feet finds its own feet by presenting light and engaging fare employing veteran English actors in ways we rarely get to see them on the big screen. As I say in my video review (click the link above to watch), in these dark times this is the kind of hopeful, mature entertainment that just might drag older adult audiences out to the movies.
Exotic Marigold Hotel and its 2015 sequel proved there was a sizable worldwide crowd out there craving this kind of thing, and though it breaks no new ground, this Richard Loncraine-directed piece fits the bill nicely and gives the wondrous Imelda Staunton a lovely leading role in which she proves again her mettle as one of our best.

The Boys Are Back In Town! (And so are the girls.) We got very excited indeed yesterday when a photograph and video of some of the original Gladiators stars reuniting popped up courtesy of ITV show The Saturday Night Story.
Obviously, this got us here at Digital Spy going on a little trip down memory lane - and it wasn't long before we were bashing each other with oversized sticks as we had a massive squabble about which of the games was best.
There were actually 24 events in total, so narrowed down to just 12. Sorry Catapult, Dogfight, Hit & Run, Joust, Pole-Axe, Pursuit, Sumo Ball, Suspension Bridge, Tightrope, Tilt, Vertigo and Whiplash, but you just didn't make the final cut.
Read on to find which games did make it into our ranking, and which one's the best - then let us know what you think by leaving your comments below.
