Director Roland Emmerich has brought us a whole lot of fun movies over the years, from Independence Day to The Day After Tomorrow, but as far as I’m concerned the best movie he has ever made was his 1992 sci-fi action film Universal Soldier (watch it Here), an awesome movie that pits Jean-Claude Van Damme against a villainous Dolph Lundgren. And that happens to be the movie The Arrow in the Head Show hosts John “The Arrow” Fallon and Lance Vlcek are talking about in the new episode of their show. To find out what they think of Universal Soldier, check out the video embedded above!
Scripted by Richard Rothstein, Christopher Leitch, and Dean Devlin, Universal Soldier tells the following story:
During the Vietnam War, soldier Luc Deveraux (Jean-Claude Van Damme) finds that his superior officer, Andrew Scott (Dolph Lundgren), has turned violently deranged, and the two fight to the death.

In a newly surfaced video, Democratic presidential candidate Mike Bloomberg places the blame for the 2008 mortgage and financial crisis on the elimination of a racist lending policy known as “redlining.”
During the 2008 housing and economic collapse, then New York City Mayor Bloomberg said the meltdown was triggered when banks were pressured to “make loans to everyone.” Redlining was the practice where banks drew boundaries around neighborhoods occupied by people of color and refused to offer them mortgages, effectively denying them the ability to own their own home.

Like most of his peers in horror’s hallowed halls, Wes Craven contributed his share to the small screen; Summer of Fear (1978), Chiller (1985), and several episodes of The Twilight Zone revival (’85–’86) are indications of an artist who liked to keep busy and sometimes pay some bills. Invitation to Hell (’84) would seem to be a case for the latter, but it has an irresistibly goofy charm that’s impossible to resist.
Originally an ABC broadcast from Thursday, May 24th, Invitation stood no hope in you know where of winning the night; CBS had Magnum, P.I. and Simon & Simon, while the Peacock strutted around with their comedy lineup of Gimme A Break!/Family Ties/Cheers/Night Court. Those were impossible odds, even for the devil himself. Oh well. Throw on your tracksuit, grab your water bottle, because you’ve just received your Invitation to Hell.

After authorities said an Uzbek immigrant allegedly killed eight people and injured 11 more in Tuesday’s terror attack in New York City, President Trump tweeted that he “ordered Homeland Security to step up our already Extreme Vetting Program.”
It was not immediately clear which vetting program Trump was referring to and White House officials had no comment when asked to explain. The Washington Post reported that Trump was likely referring to the U.S. government’s vetting programs for foreign nationals, as opposed to his controversial travel ban, which applies to only seven Muslim-majority nations.

Before A&E's Bates Motel - a contemporary take on the life of Norman Bates and his relationship with his mother, Norma - there was a made-for-television movie in 1987 called Bates Motel. Written and directed by Richard Rothstein and starred Bud Cort, Lori Petty, Moses Gunn, Gregg Henry and even Jason Bateman. If you recall, this take didn't focus on Norman Bates so much as it introduced us to his roomie from the mental hospital! The '87 Bates Motel was meant to be a television pilot, but a series never quite took off.

I’ve learned that Universal Cable Prods. VP Tom Lieber is leaving the company. Under Ucp’s previous management structure, development was split to three areas — projects for USA, overseen by Svp Richard Rothstein, for Syfy, headed by Lieber, and for outside networks, run by Svp Maira Suro, who left a year ago. In the recent restructuring, veteran producer Dawn Parouse Olmstead (Prison Break) was brought in to lead Ucp’s development team as the studio is ramping up operations under Jeff Wachtel, President and Chief Content Officer at NBCU Cable Entertainment, while Rothstein was put in charge of the studio’s current scripted series. Lieber is leaving to join Syfy/Ucp’s drama Dominion, which he had been shepherding for the studio. He asked to be relieved from his duties at the studio and will be based in South Africa where the series is filmed.

Exclusive: Universal Cable Productions has tapped top TV producer Dawn Parouse Olmstead (Prison Break) to lead its development team as the studio is looking to ramp up operations. Meanwhile, Ucp’s Svp Development & Current Programming, Richard Rothstein, will be in charge of the studio’s current scripted series. This marks the first major executive move for Jeff Wachtel, President and Chief Content Officer at NBCU Cable Entertainment, since the former USA Network co-president moved into his new role in September. Both Olmstead, who is taking on a title of Evp Development, and Rothstein will report to him. “It’s a real coup for us to land a creative producer at Dawn’s level to spearhead our newly escalating effort to create and own original content,” Wachtel said. “She is one of the smartest and most focused producers I’ve ever met, and she is the perfect person to take our...

Kino resurrects an odd curio with Shoot the Sun Down, a counter-culture Western from 1978, notable for headlining Christopher Walken just prior to his Oscar win for The Deer Hunter and Margot Kidder before she was that year’s Lois Lane in Superman. Of further note, director David Leeds, who financed with his own production company, would never again lend his name to another film in any capacity. The film, which is obviously modeled after Sergio Leone’s Man With No Name series, considering it’s mysterious protagonist, has all the makings of a subversive genre entry, it’s stance on violence guided by an incredibly idiosyncratic score (that’s not Ennio Morricone) and Michael Chapman’s beautifully photographed landscapes (with plenty shots of rising/setting suns for its grand motif). However, muddled plotting and a comatosely constructed climax peg the film as rather forgettable, which is unfortunate considering its strange ambience.

Before "Bates Motel" opened up its doors on A&E, there was another television pilot of the same name that continued the Psycho legacy in an altogether different direction. That's right, kids, the failed 1987 pilot "Bates Motel" is now available on DVD!
Through the magic of Universal's Vault Series, you can order yourself a copy on DVD-r! Note that not all players will play these manufactured-on-demand discs so make sure that yours does before purchasing!
Now then... what the hell is this, you ask? I'll let our resident Psycho junkie, Jinx, take it from here with an excerpt from his 5-part series, Psycho Path: Tracing Norman Bates' Twisted Trail Through Page and Screen.
Bud Cort, Lori Petty, and Moses Gunn star in Richard Rothstein's 90-minute pilot. Let your curiosity get the better of you and order one below. It'll look great right next to your Psycho IV: The Beginning DVD!

Beasts of the Southern Wild (2012) 20th Century Fox Blu-ray and DVD Available Now
Six-year-old Hushpuppy (fearless newcomer Quvenzhané Wallis) lives in the “Bathtub,” a southern Louisiana bayou community far removed from the civilized world. Her father Wink (Dwight Henry), a poor fisherman, keeps her at arm’s length but ensures her well-being within the cultural confines of their rough-and-tumble society. Seen through the eyes of the feisty Hushpuppy, the lines between myth and reality are blurred. An impending storm coincides with the melting of the arctic ice caps (and the thawing of some mythical creatures), which changes the world of the Bathtub forever. This heartbreaking little fable came out of nowhere last summer after building some positive buzz on the festival circuit. Under the pact, the duo will shepherd projects for cable as well as broadcast for Ucp, which has evolved from a production arm of USA Network and SyFy to a studio that supplies all cable and broadcast nets. For the past few years Bender Brown had been independent after a stint at Warner Bros. TV where the company produced CBS drama Dr. Vegas among other projects. Richard Rothstein has been promoted to senior vp cable programming at NBC Universal Television Studio.
Rothstein had been vp cable programming since joining the studio in October 2004. He reports to NBC Uni TV Studio president Angela Bromstad.
"He has wonderful creative instincts and is a great executive," Bromstad said of Rothstein.
During the past two years, Rothstein has served as the executive overseeing the production of Sci Fi Channel's hit "Battlestar Galactica" and "Eureka" and USA Network's highly rated "Psych".
Rothstein also handles some development duties for broadcast networks, for which he reports to Laura Lancaster, senior vp drama programming at NBC Uni TV.
Before joining NBC Uni, Rothstein worked as supervising producer on the UPN reality series "America's Next Top Model". He worked as a development executive at Thomas Carter Co. from 1999-2002. Before that, he worked at NBC as director of miniseries and movies.

NBC Universal Television Studio is restructuring its management ranks, displacing two executives who oversaw its cable programming. The studio is merging the separate teams it maintained to oversee broadcast and cable programming in the current and development areas. That will mean Paulo De Oliveira is out as senior vp cable programming, but he is segueing into a new role as an independent producer. Also departing, though not immediately, is vp cable programming Lucia Cottone. A third cable-minded executive, Richard Rothstein, will remain and be reassigned. NBC Uni TV declined comment.
