Everything seems to be going great for your favorite character one day, and the next he or she is suddenly gone, having been written out of the show for one odd reason or another. Here's the story behind some of TV's most notable character disappearances. Are there other characters you miss? Let us know in the comments below.
1. Susan from Seinfeld
Remember George Costanza’s fiance Susan Ross? Her character tragically and comically died in Season 7 after licking all of the envelopes from their cheap wedding invitations. According to Jason Alexander (George) and Julia Louis-Dreyfuss (Elaine), Heidi Swedberg was extremely difficult to work with and Larry David decided to kill her off.
2. Charlie from Lost
If you booked the show Lost, your life would be set, right? Not for Dominic Monaghan.

Warren Frost, the late-blooming actor who played the dependable town physician Will "Doc" Hayward on Twin Peaks, has died. He was 91.
Frost died Friday morning at his home in Middlebury, Vt., after a lengthy illness, according to his son, Mark Frost, who created the surreal 1990s ABC show with David Lynch.
Warren Frost also is known for his stint as Mr. Ross, the father of George Costanza's fiancee Susan Ross, on NBC's Seinfeld. His character had an affair with the author John Cheever; his house was burned down by Kramer's Cuban cigar; and his daughter was poisoned to death...

After a hard fought race, Scandal's presidential election is finally down to two candidates—but not before the crew (meaning Olivia Pope & Associates on Team Mellie Grant, President Fitz, Abby & co. on Team Susan Ross, Cyrus and Team Francisco Vargas, and Papa Pope and Jake on Team Edison Davis) managed to take down the horrific Hollis Doyle. The big case of "Trump Card" saw Mellie and Susan team up to take down Doyle (while the democrats sat by and watched). It took a bit of scheming—and pooling their resources in a momentary cease fire—but they managed to do it when Olivia leaked audio of Hollis demeaning his voter base to Sally Langston, who played it on air. Bye, Hollis and your...

Attention women everywhere: You're going to be as incensed as Mellie Grant (Bellamy Young) when you watch E! News' exclusive sneak peek at Scandal's big debate, in which Hollis Doyle (Gregg Henry) throws around some horribly sexist ideas. Trust us, it'll horrify you. "If all it takes to be presidential is to shake hands, give speeches and know which color lipstick to wear to the party, then go ahead on. Take your pick of one of these Betties," he says during the televised event as Sally Langston (Kate Burton) watches on, not letting Mellie—or Susan Ross (Artemis Pebdani), for that matter—get a word in edgewise. He then proceeds to question the fact that Mellie is...

Well, folks – I think the biggest takeaway this week is neither the Rowan stuff (which we'll get to in a sec) nor the Liv and Fitz drama (ditto), but the fact that we can add another fictional country to our Scandal world map. The Republic of Bandar, which Twitter seems to agree is a thinly veiled version of Iran, joins Caledonia and West Angola as countries we think we recognize but don't. It makes Scandal feel a little bit close to The Twilight Zone – which would actually explain a lot of the weird stuff that happens here, wouldn't it?

After seemingly taking digs at her acting abilities on yesterday's episode of "The Howard Stern Show," Jason Alexander has posted a lengthy apology to Heidi Swedberg, the actor who played his doomed fiancee Susan Ross on "Seinfeld." He was trying to defend her, see? I think Alexander is right in noting that his lack of chemistry with Swedberg played perfectly into the way the relationship was written; the whole point was that George and Susan were wrong for each other from the start. This seems heartfelt. "Ok folks, I feel officially awful. Yesterday on @Sternshow, I retold a story I had told years ago about my personal difficulties and insecurities in playing George against the Susan that Heidi Swedberg created. The impetus for telling this story was that Howard said, 'Julia Louis Dreyfuss told me you all wanted to kill her'. So I told the story to try and clarify...

Jason Alexander feels “officially awful” for sharing a story Wednesday on Howard Stern’s radio show about why Heidi Swedberg’s Susan Ross was killed off of “Seinfeld,” the show on which she was engaged to Alexander’s George Costanza. A day later, he backed off a little bit — or at least explained his intentions in greater detail in a post he promoted on Twitter. Alexander said on Stern’s show: “The actress is this wonderful girl, Heidi Swedberg, I love her ... Like most Seinfeld fans, we still haven't gotten over the death of George's fiance Susan Ross back in season 7. Just kidding. She was actually kind of a pain (after all, she was the one who ruined George's potential relationship with Marisa Tomei). What we actually haven't gotten over, however, is how shockingly out of the blue her death was. In case you've somehow forgotten, Susan died suddenly after licking the toxic glue on the cheap envelopes George had decided to order for their wedding invitations. After the strange and sudden death, rumors started swirling that the character was killed off because Jason Alexander didn't like working with the actress, Heidi Swedberg. Finally,...

Jason Alexander, the man behind perhaps the greatest sitcom character of all time — “Seinfeld’s” George Costanza — revealed on Wednesday why his on-screen fiancée Susan Ross had to be killed off in 1997 after 28 episodes. “The actress is this wonderful girl, Heidi Swedberg, I love her,” Alexander started his story on Wednesday morning to an eager Howard Stern. “I couldn’t figure out how to play off of her.” “Her instincts for doing a scene — where the comedy was — and mine, were always misfiring,” he continued. “She would do something and I would go, ‘Ok, I see what she’s going.

In the world of Scandal, occupational hazards aren’t just about hurting your back if you lift something heavy, like Cyrus’s bad wig collection. They are about possibly being kidnapped, tortured, or killed, or if someone wants to use you as a chess piece in a twisted game. There’s no real insurance for these types of injuries, even though we have a Jake (who should probably start working at State Farm).Susan Ross is a thorn in Cyrus Beene’s side for continuously having the nerve to use her title as vice-president to actually do something. The writers of Scandal haven't been afraid to get political this season, and Thursday night was no exception.
Olivia Pope (Kerry Washington) took on a military rape case, and the episode crackled with her passion for justice. Plus, resident torture experts Huck (Guillermo Díaz) and Quinn (Katie Lowes) tried to get Russell (Brian White) to reveal the meaning of Foxtail, a code word the Gladiators knew only from his call with Rowan (Joe Morton).

This week’s Scandal succeeded on the Case of the Week, the Mellie-for-Senator and, yes, even the B613 fronts.

Olivia Pope (Kerry Washington) could really use some girl time.
It seems like all of Scandal's leading lady's problems trace back to the men in her life, from her diabolical father to her ex-lovers. But who would have thought she was sleeping with the enemy during her fling with the rando she picked up at a bar?
That's right, Gladiators: In the biggest #Tgit twist of the season, Liv's new man stabbed Jake (Scott Foley) – and it looks like the captain may really be gone for good. Most Scandalous Moments . Daddy dearest is back. Rowan (Joe Morton) used his...

We’ve got questions, and you’ve (maybe) got answers! With another week of TV gone by, we’re lobbing queries left and right about shows including Glee, The Bachelor, Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., Empire and The 100!
1 | Of all the guest stars on last week’s Glee, might the return of a dreadlock- less Joe have been the most shocking? (Seriously, where has he been all this time? Hiding his hair from E!’s Fashion Police?)

Every week, we're breaking down the latest episode of "Scandal" with our own group of Gladiators. Check out the video above to see what our wine-swigging recappers thought of this week's hour ... and what they think it's going to happen in the weeks to come! Keep reading for our full recap ... Olivia Pope (Kerry Washington) got back to work last week, but last night, "Scandal" fanatics saw her grappling with Ptsd. The show started with Liv sitting on the floor of her apartment, using wine to numb the aftershocks of her kidnapping. In between flashbacks of her gun-toting kidnappers, Liv was able to help Rose find out what happened to her "missing" neighbor Lois (who was actually shot while Olivia was taken.) Huck (Guillermo Díaz) and Quinn (Katie Lowes) were able to track down Lois' body with the serial number from her artificial hip. Instead of telling Rose the truth,...

Love is awesome, but sometimes it makes you do stupid things. Other times, it makes you fight to see the truth come to light. Pride? Well, it comes before the fall, or keeps you from therapy even though you are clearly suffering from acute Ptsd and no one wants to drag you to an intervention yet.We see Susan Ross as Eliza Doolittle, getting the Pygmalion treatment because she was not ready to be presented as the candidate for vice-president, without lots of fixing. After flubbing her announcement speech by cackling goofily (and becoming a ringtone sensation), Susan became the project of Abby Whelan and Leo Bergen, charged to make her seem fit for the job so she could get the Senate confirmation. The reason Leo is called in to fix, is that Olivia is spending her days sitting on the floor of her apartment using wine to numb the...

By it’s own standards, last night’s episode of Scandal was a bit slow. I mean, no one was kidnapped, murdered, or kidnapped and threatened with murder if they couldn’t be sold to the Islamic Republic of Iran. There was also no infidelity or competing monologues. No one was tortured by Huck either, even when a prime opportunity presented itself. It was like this show was going back to its initial seasons, where mystery clouded the overall episode, but in the meantime there was a simple problem that required Olivia Pope’s wisdom to bring forth a resolution.
I’m so used to this show doing the most, I didn’t know what the hell to do with it acting like it finally took a Xanax. But hell, since we’re here, let’s just enjoy the moment. Lord knows it’ll likely end soon.

Scandal's Gladiators better hold on to their white hats.
Thursday night's episode was mostly a set-up for the next swooping dramatic arc: The takedown of B613 (no, really this time), and possibly your favorite characters along with it.
"You gave me those files," Attorney General David Rosen (Joshua Malina) said in the penultimate scene. "You said, 'Go get the bad guys.' "
"Rosen, we are the bad guys," Jake (Scott Foley) replied.
"Not anymore," David insisted.
But is that really true? Because for all the good the employees of Pope & Associates do, their fixing hasn't exactly followed the letter of the law.

ABC’s Scandal inched closer to its “classic” formula this Thursday, as Olivia set out to fix a broken heart, the White House swung into spin mode and Huck debated doing a number on B613.

In its first episode since Olivia Pope's (Kerry Washington) escape, Scandal didn't pull any punches. The ABC drama doesn't openly discuss race often, but when it does - from Olivia's searing "I'm feeling a little, I don't know, Sally Hemings/Thomas Jefferson about this" jab to her father's mantra that she had to be "twice as good" - it's a raw reminder that, even in Shondaland, America is far from color-blind.
