“We were a brotherhood…Surfing was my saviour”
Inspired by the 1992 film Momentum by Taylor Steele, brothers Jeff and Michael Zimbalist have written and directed their new feature documentary Momentum Generation. It sees a group of young teenage boys come together through their passion of surfing. Each member has their own story to tell and has given their life to becoming some of the biggest influential and best surfers in the world. “The ocean is chaotic, but I felt calm out there”.
Taylor Steele’s Momentum was ground-breaking and inspired surfers and non-surfers alike to grab a board and jump straight in. With the help of his filmmaking skills as well as the handy friendships he made with the young boys, we can have a deeper understanding of the lives of the Momentum Generation. Packed with raw footage from the 1970s and 80s, as well as interviews taken in the present day,...

Tribeca Film Festival may not rival the bidding wars of Sundance or studio tentpoles at SXSW. But it has cornered the market on cast reunions and Q&A sessions. This year is no exception, as the festival has lined up the makers of “Schindler’s List” (including Steven Spielberg), “Scarface” (Al Pacino and Michelle Pfeiffer) and conversations from Bradley Cooper and John Legend. And then there are the movies playing throughout Manhattan, from April 18 through 29. Here are nine titles that could break out on the indie scene.

A host of surfing stars will gather in Santa Monica tomorrow, July 30, to teach youngsters with Cystic Fibrosis how to surf.
Along with Children’s Hospital Los Angeles, the Mauli Ola Foundation presents its Cystic Fibrosis Surf Experience Day to get children and young adults with cystic fibrosis out in the ocean water to have a great time. The ocean air, which is an elevated saline environment, facilitates the breakdown of mucus in patients’ lungs when inhaled.
Taking part in the event are Michael Papajohn (Spiderman, Thor), Kalani Robb (Surfer), Kala Alexander (Surfer), Teddy Navarro (Surfer), Brian “T-City” Ortega (Surfer), Josh Baxter (Surfer), Sunny Garcia (Surfer), Hans Hagen (Surfer), Shawn Ward (Surfer) and other surprise guests.

Dominic Monaghan has confirmed reports he has broken his foot in a freak surfing accident by showing it off on U.S. TV. The "Lord of the Rings" star used a cane to hobble onto comedian Jimmy Kimmel's late-night TV show on Tuesday, April 27, with his left foot in a cast. He told the host, "I always wanted to carry a cane. I feel like a P.I.M.P."
When Kimmel asked what had happened to him, the Brit revealed, "I broke my foot. I broke it in a very cool way... surfing. I broke it with one of the greatest surfers of his generation, a guy called Kalani Robb. I did a very late drop-in and I was looking for my section when I did a floater and my section was a little far away from me, so I was trying to cut in to the wave.

Actor Dominic Monaghan hobbled around on a broken foot for a day before a doctor told him he'd shattered his metatarsal.
The Lost star was in agony after a surfing accident but had no clue his injury was a broken bone until he could bear the pain no more.
And he blames the tough nature of surfing pal Kalani Robb for his efforts to walk the pain off.
Monaghan says, "Pro surfers are very tough about it (injury), so I paddled over to Kalani and said, 'I think I hurt my foot.' And he said, 'We'll catch two or three more waves and we'll go in.'
"Then we got out on the beach and he was looking for his girls, so we walked, like, 400 yards down the beach, and I'm hobbling.
"We put some ice on it and the next day (when) I woke up I couldn't even put my shoe on."...

"I broke my metatarsal, which is easily the coolest bone in the world to break - it was the bone that Cartilage magazine has voted the in-vogue bone to break for the past three years. Before that it was the rib."
The English soccer fan is thrilled to share the injury with some of his heroes: "You're in a great gang with people like Stephen Gerrard, who plays for England..., Michael Owen, who plays for England..., Wayne Rooney, who plays for England, and a certain handsome character called David Beckham."
Monaghan then showed off an X-ray of his shattered metatarsal on his camera.
