The Black List, an annual ranking of Hollywood’s best unproduced screenplays, has unleashed its 2021 edition — a smattering of delicious pop biopics, true crime and even a psychodrama about Mickey Rourke appearing on “The Masked Singer.”
Founded in 2005 by Franklin Leonard, the list surveys top studio and development executives asking them to share the scripts they adored but haven’t yet greenlit. The rankings are then cross-referenced, and popularity is calculated by the frequency a title appears (the “mentions”).
The top script on this year’s list is “Cauliflower,” an intense drama from writer Daniel Jackson.
“Under the cruel guidance of a mysterious coach, an ambitious high school wrestler struggles to become a state champion while battling a bizarre infection in his ear that both makes him dominant in his sport and threatens his sanity,” the synopsis reads. The script was mentioned 32 times across rankings. Jackson is repped by UTA and Bellevue.

Jennifer Garner’s family comedy Yes Day is on track to be seen by 53 million households in the first four weeks of its release, Garner said on her Instagram feed Friday. The Miguel Arteta-directed movie was released March 12 on the streaming giant and has already been No. 1 in 50 countries where it has debuted, according to Netflix.
If the projection holds, the pic co-starring Edgar Ramirez would be on track to be the streaming giant’s second-biggest Kids & Family release behind this past season’s The Christmas Chronicles: Part 2, which was seen by 61 million subs in its first month. By comparison, its kids title We Can Be Heroes was projected to be seen by 44 million in its first four weeks.
In Netflix’s metric, a view is counted as any sampling of at least two minutes of programming.
Last year, Netflix released its top 10 films list where the action thriller Extraction was No.

The rom-com stars Finn Wittrock as Bart who has a serendipitous meeting with Vienna played by Zoë Chao. She’s a little bit of a mystery, but the two end up having a connection and they spend a whirlwind weekend together (hence the title of the movie). The film also features Casey Wilson, Jim Rash and Damon Wayans, Jr. Long Weekend is produced by Deanna Barillari, Laura Lewis, Theodora Dunlap,...

USA Network’s newest original drama “Damnation” isn’t based on the Great Depression taught in schools nationwide. Instead, it’s a fictional account of cultural revolution. The network has released a new trailer for the series, which is set to premiere Tuesday, November 7 at 10/9 p.m.
“Damnation” tells the tale of Iowa preacher Seth Davenport (Killian Scott) who vows to instigate a farmer’s strike. “If your neighbor is siding with wealth,” Davenport pleads in the recently released trailer, “then you need to recognize that neighbor for what he is — the enemy.”
Seth fights corruption and corporate greed unknowingly beside a professional strikebreaker, Creeley Turner (Logan Marshall-Green), who has been hired by an industrialist tycoon. But as Turner and Davenport are set to squabble, those around them don’t know about their secret, violent past.

Daaaayum. When did USA Network get so serious? I still remember it for shows like Psych, White Collars, Monk, and other fun goofy people in serious jobs. When did they go from "Characters Welcome" to "We the Bold"? First off, "We the Bold"? Come on. That's the best you got? Anyway. This new show Damnation seems pretty heavy.
It is definitely relevant due to its basis on the huge class difference that is tackled with the rich and poor, but it also has that wild west feel. Plus what looks to be a lot of murder. If you are interested in gritty American period pieces, here's the synopsis:
An epic saga about the secret history of the 1930s American heartland, Damnation centers on the mythic conflict and bloody struggle between big money and the downtrodden, God and greed, charlatans and prophets. The pilot introduces Seth Davenport (Killian Scott, “71”), a man...

ER alum John Stamos is returning to NBC as the lead of I Am Victor, a drama pilot from former House executive producer Katie Jacobs and bestselling Norwegian novelist Jo Nesbo. Stamos is in final negotiations for the project, written by Mark Goffman based on Nesbo’s book. It centers on Victor Port (Stamos), a high powered divorce attorney with a unique view of relationships. Quick, charming, disarming, brazen and direct, he unapologetically says what most people think, but dare not say, and the methods he uses on behalf of his clients are anything from jurisprudence and artful negotiation to manipulation and pure extortion. The 2011 Black List, the Top Unproduced Screenplays of the year has been released. The best unproduced screenplays from The Black List 2011 is compiled by votes from over 300 “execs, agency guys, and high-level assistants. Titled The Black List, the compendium highlights both established screenwriters and up-and-comers, and has served as a launching pad in the past for projects like Juno, Lars and the Real Girl, and (500) Days of Summer. Last year’s list included Margin Call, Crazy, Stupid, Love, The Hunger Games, and Snow White and the Huntsman.”
Regarding the validity of The Black List, things to keep in mind:
some of these screenplays have already been acquired and are already in development, though…none will have entered principal photography by December 31, 2011. Also worth pointing out is that, as in previous years, there have been rumors that some of the participants have been accused of using the Black List to promote their own clients or friends.

For the seventh annual year a list of the top unproduced screenplays written in the past 12 calendar months has been made. The Black List is the most recognized and celebritized compilation for screenwriters and unknown movie ideas to be heard. While some prior Black List scripts have gone on to be made (like Juno or 500 Days of Summer), most scripts do not. However, what being on The Black List can do is to give a big push of credibility to a screenwriter hoping to carve out a career in Hollywood.
The Black List recepients are chosen by a committee of 300 individuals working in Hollywood: agents, writers, producers, managers and the like. They read the screenplays that float around the showbiz ecosystem; some are bought and are already in development while others are still seeing the interest of talent of financial backers.

The 2011 Black List has arrived online and there are a bunch of the hottest scripts in Hollywood. Some have already been picked up by studios, while most are still unproduced. Here is the press release: The Black List was compiled from the suggestions of over 300 film executives, each of whom contributed the names of up to ten of their favorite scripts that were written in, or are somehow uniquely associated with, 2011 and will not have begun principal photography during this calendar year.
This year, scripts had to receive at least six mentions to be included on the The Black List.
All reasonable effort has been made to confirm the information contained herein. The Black List apologizes for all misspellings, misattributions, incorrect representation identification, and questionable 2011 affiliations.
It has been said many times, but it's worth repeating:
The Black List is not a "best of" list. It is, at best, a "most liked" list.

[1] Each December since 2004, studio executive Franklin Leonard has compiled the best unproduced screenplays of the year, as voted by hundreds of execs, agency guys, and high-level assistants. Titled The Black List, the compendium highlights both established screenwriters and up-and-comers, and has served as a launching pad in the past for projects like Juno, Lars and the Real Girl, and (500) Days of Summer. Last year's list included Margin Call, Crazy, Stupid, Love, The Hunger Games, and Snow White and the Huntsman. It should be noted that the headline is somewhat misleading -- some of these screenplays have already been acquired and are already in development, though according to Leonard none will have entered principal photography by December 31, 2011. Also worth pointing out is that, as in previous years, there have been rumors that some of the participants have been accused of using the Black List to promote their own clients or friends.

With the publication of the 2010 Black List another compilation of the year's best unproduced screenplays has arrived. This is the fifth year that The Black List has been in existence, and its purpose is to shine a spotlight on what 290 film executives think are some of the best creative executions of ideas worthy for the big screen.
To be nominated and included on The Black List a screenplay can't have been released in 2010. As well, the minimum number of votes that a screenplay needed to have to warrant inclusion on the list is five. Several of the projects listed on Tbl are in development and will be released in the next twelve months. Others might have heat but take years to reach theaters, and there are also many that will never be greenlighted.

Back in 2004, a list was compiled of the best unproduced screenplays in Hollywood of that year. This came to be known as The Black List. It was all started by a young executive at Leonardo DiCaprio’s production company Appian Way, who polled 90+ peers to send him their 10 favorite, new, unproduced screenplays to read over the holidays. It has since become a tradition at the end of every year, in December, to release this list, which is voted on by a group of individuals in the entertainment industry from producer assistants, talent agency individuals, and many people involved with film development all the way up to VP's.
The 2010 Black List is here, and thanks to Deadline we have the list of best unproduced screenplays. Most of the scripts we've heard of, many of them are in production, some have already wrapped filming, they just wont be released until next year.

The Black List has been released. The annual list is compiled with a poll of 300 (up from last year's 250) development executives and high-level assistants, and contains a ranking of the hot screenplays making the rounds in Hollywoodland, which were written in, or are somehow uniquely associated with, 2010 and will not be released in theaters during this calendar year. Basically, the black list contains the hottest projects in Hollywood that you haven't heard of yet. Note: The headline is a slightly inaccurate, because a lot of these screenplays have already been acquired (six of the top ten listed), a bunch are in production now, and some have even finished production. One of this year's top ten screenplays, J.C. Chandor's Margin Call, about the last 24 hours at now-defunct investment bank Lehman Brothers is already in the can and set to premiere at the 2011 Sundance Film Festival with Chandor at the helm...

Frank Leonard is the most popular man in Hollywood today. This fine December day marks the release of the 6th annual Black List, a ranked collection of the top un-produced screenplays in the town, compiled by Leonard. Last year the top script was The Muppet Man from Christopher Weekes about “the life and times of the late Jim Henson.” Coming in second was Aaron Sorkin‘s The Social Network script, which is a current frontrunner to sweep the Oscars. The year before was The Beaver, now starring Mel Gibson and set for a release in 2011.
The top one this year, College Republicans, has Shia Labeouf and Paul Dano attached.
