Martin Scorsese may be one of the world’s most dedicated evangelists about film preservation and the theatrical experience, so it’s fascinating to find that the legendary auteur only seems to be getting deeper into the Netflix business. Or maybe it would be more accurate to say that Netflix is doing its best to stay in the Martin Scorsese business. Whatever the case, the filmmaker and the streamer forged a partnership with the release of last month’s “Rolling Thunder Revue: A Bob Dylan Story by Martin Scorsese,” and the upcoming “The Irishman” — a mega-budget crime epic that might just be finished by the end of the year — is perhaps the most anticipated movie of the fall.
And now, just to keep the wheels greased in the meantime, Netflix has dug into the archives and secured the streaming rights to four early Scorsese masterpieces, including some (“Who’s that...

TNT delivers Transporter: The Series to American audiences this Saturday at 9/8c, via the international, small-screen adaptation starring Chris Vance (Prison Break) as the titular delivery man.
“He’s like the Ups guy — but he’s got an Audi,” Vance quips of his character, Frank Martin, who in three big screen outings was played by Jason Statham.
In the Transporter series, Frank is joined by two team members — ex-dgse agent Caterina Boldieu (Italian actress/singer Violante Placido) and later computer whiz Jules Faroux (Hannibal‘s Mark Rendall) — as he is contracted to handle a diverse array of packages, from pop singers to priceless paintings.

With November Man out, excitement for Pierce Bosnan’s return to spying is at an all-time high for many James Bond fans. November Man, based on the seventh installment of Bill Granger’s book series called There Are No Spies, is about ex- CIA agent Peter Devereaux (Pierce Bosnan). While living a quiet life in Switzerland, Devereaux is ejected out of retirement for one last mission. Although the concept of the “one last mission/job” is not a new concept for Hollywood, it definitely has its place in cinema history, branching out to a wide range of reasons why our beloved characters are being pulled back into their past lives. From a retiree’s last gig, to the bad-boy-gone-good-and-then-bad-again mission, to the revenge premise, mythology of the ex-professional can surely delight and excite us to champion our heroes for one last fight. Here are scenes from ten incredible “one last job” films,...

Title: Le Guetteur Director: Michele Placido Starring: Danieul Auteuil, Mathieu Kassovitz, Olivier Gourmet, Francis Renaud, Nicolas Briançon, Jérôme Pouly de la Comédie Française, Violante Placido, Luca Argentero. The established Italian director and actor, Michele Placido, defines his new film as the French version of ‘Romanzo Criminale’ (a popular Italian criminal drama, whose movie version was directed by Placido, and was eventually made into a television series). But the director’s high hopes don’t match the actual outcome. The cinematography of Arnaldo Catinari is beautiful, dark and overbearing, but it clashes tremendously with the director’s style of shooting, that resembles that used for television, with very tight close-ups. Chicago – Ghost Rider should be a character who makes such an easy transition from comic book page to silver screen that it makes the failure of the two “Ghost Rider” films — the second of which, “Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance” was just been released on Blu-ray and DVD — that much more baffling. While the first film was deeply troubled, the second is just deeply stupid, missing most of the potential for B-movie greatness in favor of dull plotting, boring action, stiff performances, and total nonsense.
Rating: 1.0/5.0
There are moments when “Spirit of Vengeance” shows what it could have been if they had hired a more persuasive casting director and filmmakers who knew how to shoot an action scene. In one scene, Cage gets to completely unleash his madman persona as he tries his damnedest to keep his Rider half supressed a la Dr. Jekyll working hard not to become Mr.

That damned Satan is at it again.
One of the many bad "its" he's up to is premarital sex; Satan (Ciaran Hinds) manages to enchant, date and somehow seduce the mortal Nadya (Violante Placido). Or, maybe he violently rapes her. I'm not really sure. All I know is that they had sex. The expositional dialogue of this film is of the variety that lends one to stare into space, thinking of something other than the film, and I admit I missed exactly how it is they slept together. But, the main point is this: Some nine months later, Nadya gives birth to Satan's child on earth.
Somehow, Nadya has managed to raise the child to about 10 years, all without the help (or child support payments,...

New 'Ghost Rider,Spirit of Vengeance' movie delivered great action, thrills & more. Columbia Pictures (Sony) released their new action/thriller flick "Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance" into theaters this weekend. I just checked it out,and I thought it was very entertaining. It delivered plenty of action, thrills, and suspense. The movie stars: Nicolas Cage, Fergus Riordan, Ciaran Hinds, Violante Placido, Idris Elba, and Johnny Whitworth, In the film, Johnny Blaze (Nicolase Cage) makes a deal with Moreau (Idris Elba) to get the Ghost Rider curse, lifted. Johnny needed to use the Rider to hunt down a boy named Danny, and bring him to Moreau. Johnny and the Ghost Rider eventually hunt down the boy,but were definitely met with some turbulence as the Devil already had his minions, hunting for the boy. After a rough start, Johnny and Danny's mother Nadya team up to rescue Danny from the minions.

Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance Nicolas Cage's Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance, despite 3D surcharges, landed at no. 2 at the North American box office on Friday, Feb. 17. With a dispiriting $7 million in ticket sales at 3,174 locations, Spirit of Vengeance trailed holdover The Vow's $7.4 million (-52% from last Friday) according to studio estimates found at Box Office Mojo. That's not good news for Nicolas Cage, who has been starring in one inexplicable flop after another. I say "inexplicable" not because Cage's movies are any good, but because Cage's fans — the people who turned stinking garbage like The Rock, Gone in 60 Seconds, National Treasure, National Treasure: Book of Secrets, and the original Ghost Rider into box-office hits — should have been lining up to see more of same: Bangkok Dangerous, Season of the Witch, Drive Angry, etc. The last Nicolas Cage movie to earn more than $100 million at the domestic box office was Book of Secrets,...

This week, Fat Guy Kevin Carr takes the week off because the studios didn’t screen the new releases anywhere near him. In fact, he was specifically told not to come to one particular screening. And that can’t be a good sign, can it? What else can you expect for the movies in the weeks leading up to the Oscars, ‘cause the new ones in the theaters don’t stand a chance of winning anything next year. To take away the pain of not seeing movies this week, Kevin makes a deal with the devil, selling his soul for the ability to set his skull on fire whenever he sees a bad movie. Unfortunately, the light from said flaming skull got him kicked out of the theater because someone thought he was using his cell phone to pirate the film. Want to hear what Kevin has to say on the Fat Guys at the Movies podcast...

The Woman In The Fifth (15)
(Pawel Pawlikowski, 2011, Fra/Pol/UK) Ethan Hawke, Kristin Scott Thomas, Joanna Kulig. 84 mins.
Mysteries abound in this sombre, 1970s-style drama, and so do women. Hawke's emotionally wracked American in Paris is plagued by them – not just the seductress of the title (Scott Thomas) but also his estranged wife and daughter, and the pretty Polish waitress. Plus some dodgy (male) gangster types. If it all seems too good to be true, it is, but this doesn't show its hand till very late on – maybe too late – and maybe too many cards, or too few.
Hadewijch (12A)
(Bruno Dumont, 2009, Fra) Julie Sokolowski, Yassine Salime, Karl Sarafidis. 105 mins.
Boldly drawing connections between (Christian) religious devotion and (Muslim) religious extremism, this radical but naturalistic drama follows a rejected nun whose search for spiritual solace takes her far out of her central Paris comfort zone, and deep into the paradoxes of faith.

Chicago – At the very least, I can take some comfort in knowing that the YouTube montage of Nicolas Cage freaking out has some new (and golden) material. As cursed as Cage’s Johnny Blaze character is by the demon inside him known as the Ghost Rider in the newest chapter, “Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance,” so is this movie cursed by unthinkable dialogue, lackluster acting, obnoxious camerawork, and confusing editing.

Cage reprises the role of Johnny Blaze/Ghost Rider in a sequel being released five years since the original “Ghost Rider”. In the new film, Johnny is hanging low in Eastern Europe (natural for any guy that hulks out into a flaming-headed, motorcycle-riding demon), when he is called upon by Moreau (Idris Elba) to protect a young boy named Danny (Fergus Riordan), who the devil himself, Roarke (Ciaran Hinds), is after. In 2007, Nicolas Cage starred in Ghost Rider, a film adaptation of the esoteric Marvel Comics hero who sold his soul to the devil and became a sort of unhinged embodiment of revenge. The idea of making a Ghost Rider film was a little problematic to begin with, seeing as how the mythology has always been a little muddled and he never really had a convincing villain to square off against (as is the case with most of your supernatural heroes). Still, there was a lot of fire involved and the dude rode a motorcycle, so what’s not to love?...

There's that moment of disappointment when you realize you are on the receiving end of a bait and switch. If you've forgotten what it feels like, you'll experience it early on in Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance. It isn't the ridiculous, over-the-top celebration of grindhouse goofiness that the poster pretends it to be. It is, in fact, merely an inept movie. Yeah, crazy Nic Cage pisses fire, but only for a second and in someone's imagination, a great indication that even the characters in this film are dreaming of something better.
Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance does a pretty good job of disassociating itself from 2007's first, unpopular (though financially profitable) Ghost Rider picture. Johnny Blaze's origin story is summed up in the first moments, and only the most rigid of fans will notice there are some tweaks from the last film. All you need to know is that Nicolas Cage...

Ghost Rider 2 to top President's Day weekend box office over This Means War. Sony's sequel Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance rides into 3,174 theaters, looking to burn up the box office in 3D and 2D showings nationwide. 2,352 theaters offer the pic in 3D, and we could see a total of between $20-$30 million from the Mark Neveldine and Brian Taylor-helmed film, starring Nicolas Cage, Idris Elba, Violante Placido, Ciarán Hinds, Johnny Whitworth, Anthony Head and Christopher Lambert. 20th Century Fox's This Means War, which showcases two of Hollywood's biggest young male stars in a comedic actioner, battling over Reese Witherspoon's character, opens in 3,189 theaters. McG helms from the script by Timothy Dowling and Simon Kinberg. It's a tricky weekend with probably the most lacklustre superhero franchise currently, up against a pic which could entice some Ghost Rider 2 viewers to slip away, making for a closer battle for first than some anticipate.

Ghost Rider: Spirit Of Vengeance
Stars: Nicolas Cage, Idris Elba, Ciaran Hinds, Fergus Riordan, Johnny Whitworth, Violante Placido, Christopher Lambert | Written by Scott M. Gimple, Seth Hoffman | Directed by Mark Neveldine, Brian Taylor
Remember when they announced that Cranks’s Neveldine and Taylor would be directing the new Ghost Rider? Remember how everyone said teaming the two up with Nicolas Cage could lead to something completely batshit insane?
Well they were right.
Imagine taking the fractured psyche of Nicolas Cage, turning it up to eleven, then throwing in every stylistic trick in the Neveldine/Taylor handbook. And turn all That up to a hundred and you’d still be nowhere close to the complete balls-to-the-wall insanity that is Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance. This is everything I dreamed of when I heard the original announcement and more. If you thought Cage’s Drive Angry was crazy you ain’t seen nothing yet!

Those thinking that Nicolas Cage could not possibly outdo his own badness following last year’s disastrous Season of the Witch should think again, for this ludicrously unnecessary, scarcely comprehensible sequel to the mediocre 2007 comic book outing Ghost Rider is his stiffest competition since. Already a firm contender for worst film of the year, Spirit of Vengeance musters low expectations, and inexplicably still fails to meet them.
If there was any beacon of hope that this sequel might be a more diverting excursion than the tiresome original, it is the peculiar decision to have Mark Neveldine/Brian Taylor – the demented minds behind the wonderfully irreverent Crank films – directing the carnage this time around. Less known for high-budget finesse and more for the barely-controlled, amusingly sloppy handheld work employed on their Statham-starrers, the dappy duo are a curiously dangerous choice with which to saddle a $75m blockbuster...

Neveldine and Taylor bring some of their madness to Ghost Rider: Spirit Of Vengeance. The result, Duncan writes, is a cracking comic book movie…
As much as it pains me to say it, 2011 was without doubt the worst year of Nicolas Cage’s career so far, with Season Of The Witch, Drive Angry, Justice and Trespass all falling short of average. Naturally, after last year’s drought, I was apprehensive about throwing all my hopes of into Ghost Rider: Spirit Of Vengeance, this being the second chapter of a film most people didn’t care for, that has been retro-fitted with 3D, while carrying a 12A certificate, despite being directed by mega-violence merchants, Neveldine and Taylor.
And the result of all these negatives? A bombastic, insane and fantastically manic piece of action cinema that finally uses the power of Nic Cage in all his glory.

Of course Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance needed a director who was familiar with high intensity, big action films, and we got two of them: Mark Neveldine and Brian Taylor, the team behind the Crank films and Gamer. Both recently sat down with Dread Central's Nomad to discuss the project.
The two directors came from very different backgrounds with regard to comic books. "I personally knew nothing about Ghost Rider," Mark Neveldine said. "I didn't see the first movie. Other than reading The Hulk as a kid, I wasn't really a comic book guy so I didn't know much about it until it got brought up to us."
Co-director Brian Taylor was the complete opposite. "I was a comic book freak," Taylor said. "Anything Marvel Comics. I wanted to be a comic book artist. That was the first thing I wanted to be. I would go to comic book conventions and do the art contests,...

Idris Elba is on fire! From a run on "The Office" to great roles in Thor and "Luther" to now appearing in the eagerly anticipated films Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance and Prometheus, the only thing hotter than Idris Elba is Ghost Rider's head.
Elba plays Moreau in the upcoming Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance and chatted with our man Nomad during a recent press event for the film. "He's a wayward monk that's lost in the wilderness on his motorcycle with a bottle of wine on his back," Elba said. "We wanted someone that was worldly, that was fearless and that was good in the central point because he's going to go after the Ghost Rider and try to get him to go on a mission. We tried to figure out what kind of man does that, and Moreau was born. And he's a really well-thought-out character."

A hero is only as good as the bad guys he fights, and Ghost Rider has faced some tough ones with the Devil himself being Johnny Blaze's main adversary. Johnny Whitworth sat down with Dread Central's Nomad to talk about his role as Blackout in Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance.
Whitworth begins as Ray Carrigan, who then goes through a transformation to become the nefarious Blackout. "He's possessed with this demon, this spirit of decay, that enhances Ray Carrigan from a bad guy to a fucking horrible guy," Whitworth said. "Ultimately he wanted to be something greater than Ghost Rider. He's Ray, but there's a huge evolution. He's a full-fledged masochistic psychopath when before (the transformation) he just did what had to be done. Now it's not what had to be done but what can I do?"

It's impossible not to notice Italian actress Violante Placido. She possesses the kind of stunning beauty that makes men forget their names, particularly if she's showing off her considerable natural gifts in a movie like "The American."
After her scene-stealing performance opposite George Clooney, it's no wonder Hollywood came calling again to offer her a sexy role in the action sequel "Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance." Placido plays the kind of fiercely protective mother who would gladly put a bullet in you if it meant saving her kid. With her alluring charm and acting pedigree, Placido should be a household name in no time.
Age: 35
Hometown: Rome, Italy
What She's Done: Placido started acting as a teenager in her native Italy, appearing in more than 30 film and television projects there. She made her Hollywood movie debut playing an Italian prostitute whom George Clooney's character employs and then falls for...
