Paul Reubens, the actor best known for portraying the irrepressible, joyfully childlike Pee-wee Herman, died Sunday night after a private bout of cancer. He was 70.
“Please accept my apology for not going public with what I’ve been facing the last six years,” wrote Reubens in a statement posted to Instagram after his death. “I have always felt a huge amount of love and respect from my friends, fans and supporters. I have loved you all so much and enjoyed making art for you.”
The Pee-wee Herman character was known for his bright red bowtie, grey suit and flattop haircut, and delivered his well-known catchphrases like “I know you are, but what am I?” in a distinctive squeaky, high-pitched voice.

Ryan Murphy was joined by the cast members of “Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story” for a press event held Saturday on the Netflix studio lot. Emmy winners Evan Peters and Niecy Nash, along with two-time Oscar nominee Richard Jenkins, reminisced about the weight and responsibility of filming this horrific true tale. The limited series is quickly approaching one billion hours streamed on Netflix, making it the most successful project of Murphy’s career.
The 10-episode series depicts the life of the notorious serial killer, who, over the course of more than a decade, murdered 17 boys and young men. It took Murphy and his producing partner, Ian Brennan, more than 10 years to get it made. The show is currently predicted to be nominated for Best TV Movie/Limited Series at the Golden Globes according to our latest odds.

Evan Peters has revealed the chilling interview he watched in preparation for playing serial killer Jeffrey Dahmer.
The actor appears in the Netflix series about the notorious murderer, which has divded users of the streaming service since its release last month.
Despite the complaints surrounding Dahmer’s “nauseating” gratuitous content, it’s agreed that Peters turns in an impressive performance as the killer, who murdered 17 men and boys between the years 1978 and 1991.
Ahead of playing the role, Peters was told to watch a particular interview by the show’s creator, Ryan Murphy.
The interview in question was conducted by Stone Phillips for Dateline NBC, which was recorded in 1994.
“Ryan sent me the scripts and then called and said, ‘Dahmer is interesting in that he is almost regretful and has guilt and sort of confusion about what went on,” Peters told Netflix following the release of the series.
Peters continued: “He...

There was once a time when the name Stone Phillips was spoken on a regular basis in house holds across the United States. The Emmy Award winning reporter had become a fixture in the news world. He was well-known for his calm demeanor and straight to the point attitude. Over the years, Stone worked with several major networks including ABC and NBC. He eventually became best known as the co-anchor of Dateline, a position he held from 1992 to 2006. However, ever since his time on the show ended, he has been largely absent from the spotlight. According to IMDb,

It's hard to believe that Dateline has been on the air for 25 seasons. Many anchors have come and gone (remember the Jane Pauley and Stone Phillips days?) but this NBC news program keeps chugging along -- and is sometimes one of the top-rated shows on Friday nights. It's hard to imagine that the series would be cancelled but you never know. Stay tuned.

Ellen DeGeneres is one of those women who seems ageless. Her energy, kindness and ability to make us laugh evidently have no bounds. However, Ellen is, in fact, mortal, and her 55th birthday is January 26th.
The celebrations started early on "The Ellen Degeneres Show" -- readers sent in virtual gifts, and Ellen played a slideshow of her unbelievably adorable baby photos. And let's not forget the birthday cake.
Recently we commemorated Michelle Obama's 49th birthday with a list of 49 things we love about the first lady, and we created a similar list for Hillary Clinton when she turned 65 in October. It's only fitting that we give Ellen the tribute she deserves, too.
So here's our list, 55 reasons to love Ellen Degeneres on her 55th:
1. She finally brought Kristen Bell a sloth. After Bell revealed her sloth-related 31st birthday breakdown on "The Ellen DeGeneres Show" in early 2012, Ellen joked...

Part I (5/17/2011)
Db: You spoke with Terry Gross a while ago about being an altar boy at midnight mass, and “that guy” has said he that was an altar boy for 11 years, and I’m just curious if you, the real Stephen, were actually an altar boy for that long?
Sc: Yes I was. I started as an altar boy in 2nd grade, I was 7 years old. And I was pretty steadily an altar boy until my sophomore year. I think my junior and senior year...

I’ve been asked to do a “best of” sort of post to close things out. My best of is sort of a “behind the scenes” experience that brought me to this site a long while ago.
So, where to begin?
Although I’ve only been a Completist a short while here, I’ve been a lurker and a follower of No Fact Zone for quite a while. I used my LiveJournal account as a means to follow Nfz ever since a memorable event, not only in my experience as a fan, but also as a milestone in the progress of the show itself: Rock and Awe: Countdown to Guitarmageddon! It all began with the first ever green screen challenge, followed by the coattail riding antics of the Decemberists and the subsequent rivalry that ensued. It culminated with the final show on December 20th, 2006 – a show that sealed the The...

Hi-yay! Zoners! Well, we are all recovering from traumatizing Sir Dick impression and the General Butterbean near death experience. Wonderful to have Christiane Amanpour visiting and doing the interview assist. Sad that Christiane Aman-purr couldn’t make it; evidently, her exposure to Mr. C pushed her into heat and she was humping everything back stage – lucky, puss. Evidently, Stephen really can “still play feline” and yes, “unbelievably adorable” does come to mind. Luckily, Stephen won the whale debate so just call him Ishmael. Let’s have a whale of a time. No need to audit Stephen’s books; he is a particularly astute Executive Producer and can do more than read a teleprompter – fellah!

Guests: Charlie Rose
Segments: Stephen Rejects Keith Olbermann’s Power, The Word – Coverage of Denial, Art Stephen Up Challenge – Banksy
Videos: Monday, January 24, 2011
The firing of Keith Olbermann has sent waves of disbelief in, okay who are we kidding, no one. But Olbermann will be missed by many. At least we have the solace of having Keith Olbermugg to give us comfort. And the way Stephen was bound and determined to get the “Am I canceled?” line out without a character break was both heroic and adorkable. Stephen being Banksy explains his effortless and inspiring portraits of Snoopy. Not sure what made Stephen break down into that beautiful smile right after the art segment, but thank you to whichever ‘Colbert Report’ editor left it in.
If you’ve never seen it, you can watch the Charlie Rose interview with Stephen Colbert on CharlieRose.com. I love interviews...

NEW YORK -- NBC News will cut about 1% of its work force, or about 15-20 jobs, throughout the division.
Final decisions haven't been made, but the cuts likely will start Friday and continue through the middle of next week. Some of the 15 or 20 jobs will be buyouts; the others will be layoffs. NBC News has about 2,000 employees between the network news division and its cable channel, MSNBC.
No on-air talent will be affected, unlike the last round that led to the contracts of several -- including anchors John Siegenthaler and Stone Phillips -- not being renewed. The cuts would lead to a savings of less than $20 million a year.
The cuts will be felt at several places, including NBC Nightly News and Today as well as MSNBC. They're not related to the 750 or so jobs cut late last year in a reorganization of the news division.
"There's an ongoing process at NBC News to reallocate, reorganize and right-size the division given the business pressures that every major media organization is facing," NBC News spokeswoman Allison Gollust said.

NEW YORK -- Cuts at NBC News reached to another on-air talent with the impending departure of Dateline co-anchor Stone Phillips.
Phillips' contract will not be renewed, leaving Today co-host Ann Curry as the sole anchor of the NBC newsmagazine that recently was renewed for Saturdays in the fall and Sundays after football. Phillips had been with Dateline for 15 years.
"I'm profoundly appreciative of the many friends and colleagues, past and present, who have been a part of the 'Dateline' family," Phillips said. "This is a great news division with a bright future. I wish the people of NBC News all the best."
Phillips' departure is one of several cuts mandated by corporate that have hit NBC News, most recently the departure of John Siegenthaler from the anchor chair of the weekend NBC Nightly News. NBC decided that in the new TV environment it couldn't justify keeping someone whose primary job was anchoring the weekend news.
NBC said this month that Today co-host Lester Holt would stay longer and anchor the weekend news (HR 5/10).

"Today" co-anchor Matt Lauer will broadcast live from the site of the World Trade Center and will be joined by Brokaw. Former New York Mayor Rudy Giuliani, survivors of the attacks and emergency personnel who were at the scene will also appear in the program. At 8 p.m. Sept. 11, Pauley will update her "Dateline" report broadcast in 2001 on United Flight 93, which crashed in a field near Pittsburgh as passengers tried to regain control of the plane from hijackers. New interviews and audio tapes will accompany Pauley's report. NBC will reach into the vault Sept. 9 to replay Brokaw's "America Remembers: 9/11 Controllers" at 8 p.m. Brokaw had interviewed 20 air traffic controllers who dealt with the four hijacked planes that day. Then "Dateline" will have a special that aired in 2001 called "The Miracle of Ladder Company No. 6," a Stone Phillips report of the firefighters and an office worker who were rescued from the rubble of the World Trade Center's North Tower after it collapsed.

Liza Minnelli's estranged husband David Gest's alleged ill health has been brought into question again, after he managed to grant an interview even though he's too unwell to attend a divorce hearing. Producer Gest, who is currently in Hawaii, claims he suffered permanent injuries as a result of his wife's "drunken rages" and cannot fly to the New York courts where lawyers are dissolving the short-lived union. But Gest has spoken to American network NBC's Stone Phillips in an interview due to air on Dateline next month. He says, "Hopefully my health will come back together, but if this is the way I have to live, I could never forgive her, because I have too much to create. I don't wanna live on shots and pills. No one deserves that. No one who's been so good to somebody and who cared so much and helped bring them back and really loved them, with all their heart, deserves that. I don't wish her ill will. In fact, I hope she goes to bigger heights than I took her to. But she won't unless she quits smoking, she watches her weight and doesn't drink. And that's a tall order for Liza Minnelli. She's 57 years old. And not great odds."...
