Elijah Wood has good news for noir fans, as the actor turned producer is adapting Elliott Chaze.s lauded 1953 crime novel Black Wings Has My Angel into a feature film with some tantalizing talent attached. Screen Daily reveals True Blood temptress Anna Paquin has signed on to co-star opposite intriguing Thor antagonist Tom Hiddleston in the thriller that centers on an armored car heist that forever changes the lives of a thief and the call girl he's fallen for. Black Wings Has My Angel has proved a passion project for producer and co-writer Christopher Peditto, who Cinematical reported spent more than a decade working to secure the rights to the novel that had been out of print for nearly 50 years. He's crafted the resulting screenplay with Wild At Heart screenwriter Barry Gifford and the film's attached director Alfonso Pineda Ulloa. The Mexican writer-director who is currently in post-production on his...

"True Blood" star Anna Paquin has learned a thing or two about the dark side during her days in Bon Temps, and it will certainly come in handy in her latest role.
Indie Wire reports that the actress joins "Thor" star Tom Hiddleston and Elijah Wood in the upcoming big-screen adaptation of Elliot Chaze's 1953 noir novel "Black Wings Has My Angel."
The project started being shopped around Hollywood in 2007 with Wood as a producer, but the "Lord of the Rings" star quickly learned that getting into Mordor movies made isn't always easy, although a little persistence pays off.
Three years later, he took a role in the production, only to see it shelved until now.
The movie tells the story of ex-con Tim Sunblade, played by Hiddleston, who joins forces with a call girl (Paquin) to pull off the robbery of an armored car.

The old fashioned, hard-boiled noir thriller is one of the most surprisingly underused genres in modern film. Considering the classics that spawned forth from it (The Maltese Falcon, Out of the Past, The Big Sleep), I find it surprising that more studios don’t go for these stories, what with their stylish language and gritty crime narratives. Then again, if all movies in this vein have to go through the now five-year-long development period that Black Wings Has My Angel has endured, maybe it’s not so surprising after all.
Luckily for the production, as reported by ScreenDaily (via The Playlist), two new stars have joined the roster: Thor‘s Tom Hiddleston and Anna Paquin. They’ll be taking spots alongside Elijah Wood, who had previously signed on to play protagonist Tim Sunblade (a classic noir name if ever there was one), an ex-con who teams up with a call...

They say patience is a virtue, and in the world of film development, that's especially true. While "Black Wings Has My Angel" may seem new, this one has actually been brewing since around 2007. A couple of years ago, Elijah Wood signed on to the hardboiled pic and then word when quiet, but it finally looks like the pieces are coming together. Tom Hiddleston and Anna Paquin have joined the long-gestating film, that will once again find Wood ditching his nice guy image for something a little grittier. Based on the novel by Elliot Chaze, the story centers on the ex-con anti-hero of the film, Tim Sunblade (Hiddleston), who teams up with Virginia (Paquin), a call girl he meets in a backwoods Mississippi motel for a daring armored car robbery in Colorado. No word yet on Wood's role, but the material sounds perfectly lean and mean. Barry Gifford ("Wild At Heart,...

Camilla Belle is in negotiations to star opposite Daniel Day-Lewis in the title role of IFC Films' Rose and the Snake for writer-director Rebecca Miller. Up-and-coming actor Paul Dano (The Emperor's Club) also will star in the film, with Beau Bridges making an appearance in a small but pivotal role. Production begins in the summer with Catherine Keener also starring (HR 3/7). The project sees Day-Lewis star as a dying, widowed father of a 16-year-old girl named Rose (Belle). They live on an abandoned commune, where Rose has been sheltered from the world. When the father's new love, a single mom named Kathleen (Keener), and her two teenage boys, come to live with them, Rose undergoes a sexual awakening with both liberating and devastating consequences. Dano plays the sexually charged Thadius, the elder of the two boys, who immediately sets his sights on Rose. Bridges plays Marty Rance, a real estate developer interested in buying the commune from the father. Belle, repped by CAA, has starred in such films as The Lost World: Jurassic Park, The Patriot, Practical Magic and Invisible Circus. Dano, repped by the Gersh Agency and Industry Entertainment's Sandra Chan, won an Independent Spirit Award last year for his performance in the indie feature L.I.E. He just completed shooting New Regency's The Girl Next Door and will next play the lead in the indie film Light and the Sufferer for writer-director Chris Peditto. Bridges is also repped by CAA.
