Updated: Cecchi Gori, the movie company that once dominated Italy’s film industry and collapsed in the mid 1990s, is being revived by a group of Italian investors that are backing a partial relaunch of the storied brand behind Oscar winners “Life is Beautiful,” “Mediterraneo” and “Il Postino.”
Cecchi Gori Group was officially ruled bankrupt in 2006 by a Rome court after being awash in red ink for a decade after its owner, movie mogul Vittorio Cecchi Gori, branched out from film into television and acquired the A.C. Fiorentina soccer club in a bold expansion attempt that put him in competition with Silvio Berlusconi and went horribly wrong.
But even after the company’s various Italian sides went bust, its U.S. branches – Cecchi Gori U.S.A. and Cecchi Gori Pictures – continued to operate, headed by producer Niels Juul. Operating out of Los Angeles, Juul has been instrumental to...

In February, “Mission: Impossible 7” was forced to halt production in Italy days before its planned shoot in Venice, as the country contended with one of the highest coronavirus death rates in Europe.
Cut to September. The Venice Film Festival is the first top-tier fest physically taking place, and Tom Cruise is expected back in the lagoon city later this month to resume shooting, according to multiple sources.
The Paramount production is getting logistical support from Rome’s Cinecittà Studios, where “Mission: Impossible 7” currently has an operational office. And, barring complications, Cinecittà is gearing up for a boom.
At the iconic – and recently revamped – facilities outside the Italian capital, cameras resumed rolling in early July on high-end British TV series “Domina,” the Sky original looking at power of women in Ancient Rome, which had shut down production in early March.
This lavish period piece co-produced by Sky Studios with the U.

Just last week, fans of Fox’s beloved teen soap “Beverly Hills, 90210” were thrilled by the announcement that a long-rumored revival was official in the works. That same day, actor and original star Luke Perry suffered a massive stroke, a medical emergency that led to his untimely death five days later. Even though the actor had not signed on to be a part of the series, there was still hope that he’d participate, as the new take on the beloved series was still in the early stages of development. After all, the revival has a twist that seemed perfect for Perry’s sensibilities: The actors are playing themselves.
In the revival, original stars Jason Priestley, Jennie Garth, Ian Ziering, Gabrielle Carteris, Brian Austin Green, and Tori Spelling will return — not to reprise their roles on the primetime soap that made them famous — but to play irreverent, heightened versions of their real-life selves.

The latest in the lucrative but lowbrow film franchise has come under attack for enjoying art-house status tax breaks
With a lightweight storyline about two old flames renewing their acquaintance against a festive Hollywood backdrop, Christmas in Beverly Hills is not your obvious classic of Italian cinema. Yet this lowbrow yuletide tale has sparked an unholy row in the nation of Federico Fellini and Roberto Rossellini after it was revealed it had benefited from a special art-house status that entitled the makers to lucrative government tax breaks.
The film, directed by Neri Parenti, is one of eight movies in the long-running "Christmas in ..." franchise, which also include 2002's Christmas On the Nile, 2004's Christmas in Miami and 2008's Christmas in Rio. Recounting an unlikely reunion on the streets of Los Angeles between gigolo Carlo and Cristina, a woman he abandoned when she was pregnant 17 years earlier, it has been a...
