I previously detailed all 45 animated shorts in contention for Oscar's 2012 Best Animated Short Film category and today the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences today announced the ten animated short films that will advance in the voting process for the 84th Academy Awards. Taking all of the information I compiled for the long list of 45 films I have listed the ten in contention for the Oscar with videos and additional information directly below The Short Films and Feature Animation Branch Reviewing Committee viewed all the eligible entries for the preliminary round of voting in screenings held in New York and Los Angeles. Short Films and Feature Animation Branch members will now select three to five nominees from among the ten titles on the shortlist. Last year I previewed all 33 of the Oscar qualifying animated shorts that were up for consideration for the Academy Awards and this year I have 12 additional shorts to consider and I have found either the full short, a clip, a trailer or an image from all but two of the contending shorts and put them together in this one article. These shorts have all been screened for members of the Short Films and Feature Animation Branch of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences who will soon vote on the ultimate short list that will be in contention for an Oscar nomination. Last year ten films made the list. Take a look over the next eight pages and see which ones stand out to you. There are a few instances where you may have to click a link to watch a clip and, in one instance, to watch the entire film.

It's been 22 years since the death of voice-over legend Mel Blanc. He used to perform almost all of the Looney Tunes characters but today, no one person holds a lock on characters like Bugs Bunny, Daffy Duck, and Sylvester the Cat. Word is that the studio holds auditions for each new project, requesting voice-over actors to audition for character roles they may have just played in another project. As if that wasn't bad enough, some of those talented individuals have just lost out on a couple jobs to Blanc.
Warner Bros. Animation is producing three new 3-D cartoons that will feature several of the classic Looney Tunes characters. They'll be shown in theaters before some of the studio's new movies, much like the classic cartoons were used back in the 1950s. The new cartoons are being directed by Matthew O'Callaghan. We did! We did! We did taw a puddy tat!
The eternal kid in us just leapt up and ran around the room as word came that Warner Bros. is getting set to release more theatrical 3-D animated shorts, following on the heels of last year's Annie-nominated "Coyote Falls." To be directed by Matthew O'Callaghan (who also directed last year's 'toon), the three new shorts will star Elmer Fudd, Daffy Duck, Wile E. Coyote, Roadrunner, Tweetie Bird and Sylvester the Cat, with two of them featuring songs recorded in character by the late Mel Blanc.
"Daffy's Rhapsody," featuring the Blanc-sung tune of the same name, will be the first of these shorts to hit screens on Nov. 18, in front of "Happy Feet 2." The remaining two, "I Tawt I Taw A Puddy Tat" and "Untitled Coyote & Road Runner," are currently without release dates.

Warner Bros. has announced this morning that more theatrical "Looney Tunes" shorts are on the way, to be animated with CGI and released in 3D. Two of the planned releases will feature archival material from the late Mel Blanc, who, responsible for a great deal of voice work, is best known as the original voice of Bugs Bunny. The cartoon shorts, produced by Warner Bros. Animation and directed by Matthew O'Callaghan (who directed the previously-released "Coyote Falls"), will be titled "Daffy's Rhapsody" and "I Tawt I Taw a Puddy Tat" and will make use of Blanc's voice via original songs he recorded in-character in the 1950s. The third short, still untitled, will feature the Road Runner and Wile E. Coyote. "Everyone at Warner Bros....

Cartoon Brew has debuted the list of the thirty-three films up for consideration in the Best Animated Short category for the upcoming 2011 Oscars and I have done my very best to find a video for each and every one. Unfortunately I wasn't able to find anything for Rao Heidmets's Inherent Obligations or Don Hertzfeldt's Wisdom Teeth so if anyone out there can help find video for those either let me know in the comments or shoot me an email.
Otherwise, spend some time over the next three pages to preview some really cool videos. I had a chance to preview a few of them while putting this article together, but have yet to check them all out. So let me know which ones are your favorites and which ones don't really do it for you.

There was a time, not that long ago, that people paid one admission price and spent all day at the movies. No need for morally questionable theater hopping: a single ticket got you a couple movies, a newsreel, a short or a cartoon and a trailer. A variety of factors including the advent of television and the Paramount Decision that forced studios to divest themselves of their theater chains put us on the road to where we are now, paying twelve and a half bucks for a couple of commercials, a couple of commercials masquerading as news, a couple more commercials, some trailers (which, let's face it, are commercials) and one measly feature.
As far as I'm concerned, any extension of the moviegoing experience that doesn't involve ads is a good thing. And there are small but encouraging signs that preshow shorts, particularly cartoons, are making a comeback. We've come...

With the Twilight-busting box-office performance of Despicable Me happily fresh in their minds, Universal are rubbing their hands and pondering their next animated collaboration with Illumination Entertainment. And according to the La Times, they think they have it, in the form of the Curious George movie currently in development.Larry Stuckey, who wrote the in-production Little Fockers, has been working on the script, which is set to "start from scratch", re-telling the story of the mischievous monkey, brought from the jungles of Africa to the streets of a big city by the nameless Man With the Yellow Hat. The books, by H. A. Rey and Margaret Rey, basically all follow the same formula, with the monkey causing trouble and The Man fixing it up. But they're adorable regardless. That start-over is necessary because it's only four years since we last saw a Curious George. Directed by Matthew O'Callaghan (at short...
