For a 'Ghostbusters' fan, discovering that Slimer wasn't real was like finding out Santa Claus didn't exist. (Ok, not really, but it was still a bit disheartening.) Luckily, a video featuring vintage tests of the Slimer puppet has just appeared on YouTube and shows us exactly how the ghost was brought to life.
The clip starts with some behind-the-scenes footage of Bill Murray speaking with the actress who was inside the Slimer costume, Robin Shelby. The good stuff starts at around the four-minute mark, as we see everyone's favorite ghost in dress rehearsal. It is pretty entertaining -- and a little creepy -- to watch someone control Slimer's every single facial expression through a gigantic remote control.

Here is a cool video that shows a vintage puppet test of Slimer from Ghostbusters 2. As you know, Ghostbusters 3 is not anywhere near close to production. Earlier we reported that Bill Murray is in no rush to get the film made. Unfortunately, the film will not be made without Murray's involvement.
This video shows Slimer being piloted by Robin Shelby and is a refreshing change of pace from the films in full CGI. I think that films that use real people have a different feel than some of the new blockbusters that often rely too heavily on computer generated special effects. For instance, Rango benefited from the actors actually acting out their lines as a group than just reading a script in front of a microphone.

Ghostbusters 3 is not approaching from a distant horizon. It.s not right around the corner, and it.s not just down the block. Maybe it will happen, maybe it won.t, and the latter is something all of us fans are going to have to come to terms with. Bill Murray, last we heard, still hasn.t read the script and the film doesn.t get made without him on board. A sad story to be sure. But in the midst of all the gloom, a video has emerged on the web to remind us how great movies used to be made and that even without a third, we still have Ghostbusters 1 & 2 that still satisfy as if fresh off the presses. This new video showcases some early puppet tests of everyone.s favorite goofy ghoul, Slimer. Piloted by Robin Shelby, it.s interesting and slightly unnerving to see acting...

As you probably know by now, I love the fly-on-the-wall making of documentaries which over the last decade have almost completely been replaced by generic making-of featurettes. A video has appeared on YouTube showing the Ghostbusters 2 effects team and Robin Navlyt (who wore the Slimer suit in the film) testing out the Slimer wearable puppet’s ability to emote. While this isn't a making of documentary, it does give you a fly on the wall perspective of what it was like to design and work on the special effects for this infamous film. I wish more footage like this would be released by Sony, instead of a stupid "Restoring the Ecto-1 featurette", which was one of the only new extras included on the recent Blu-ray release of the original film. And say what you will about the sequel (and most of it is warranted) but the range of motion...
