Ok, so this week’s Top 10 may seem a little random, but inspired by the purchasing of a few new vintage movie posters (I’m an avid collector!) and the approach of Profiles in History’s 44th Hollywood Auction this Saturday, I began to think about some of the most cherished pieces of movie memorabilia that fans would surely love to own. We all have a favourite film star, director, franchise or standalone film, which lead the movie memorabilia trade to boom as people found they had much more extra cash over the economically kind years between the 80s and mid 00s. This Saturday will see those lucky enough to still be in this position, battling over the real Chitty Chitty Bang Bang (estimated to sell for between $1-2million!), James Dean’s tweed jacket from Rebel Without a Cause (1955) and Jeff Bridges’ ‘The Dude’ jumper from The Big Lebowski...

John Wyndham's classic sci-fi novel "The Day of the Triffids" is finally getting the big screen treatment, and its producers told Variety that they decided it was time to make the story into a feature film because of the advances in 3D technology, which we will willingly credit to "Avatar."
"We are confident that with the new technological advances in 3D production, we have the tools with which to create Wyndham's iconic vision of Armageddon," said producer Michael Preger, who also worked on the 2009 BBC1 miniseries version of the story.
"Day of the Triffids" was first published in 1951, and is set in the future after a bizarre meteor shower leaves much of the world's population blind. Genetically altered plants named Triffids, which have three legs and contain poisonous venom, have started to encroach on humanity, and it is up to several remaining sighted people to try to lead humanity to survival.

Released in 2003, 'The Room' is a black comedy that questions the very basis of love, and friendship. Its electrifying potrayal of a world of love, passion, lies, and betrayal presented through five main characters has an impact that stays on. The movie was described by screenwriter Michael Rousselet as "hilarious, but, somehow, it was also pure brilliance. It was a perfect movie on how not to make a movie..." Written, directed and shot by Tommy Wiseau, The Room "lets you appreciate failure in a free-form way.” (screenwriter Dan Murphy who has seen the film at least five times). Wiseau claims that he purposely made the film bad.

Compare Golden Smog to Wilburys if you must, but this alleged supergroup (variously Uncle Tupelo/Wilco’s Jeff Tweedy, the Jayhawks’ Gary Louris and Marc Perlman, Soul Asylum’s Dan Murphy, Run Westy Run’s Kraig Johnson, the Honeydogs’ Noah Levy, Big Star’s Jody Stephens and the Replacements’ Chris Mars), never suffered from overproduction—or even much collective fame. Named after Fred Flintstone’s “Golden Smog” parody of Mel Tormé’s “Velvet Fog” nickname, the Smog has, however, rolled out songs so full of multi-tiered harmonies, gorgeous 12-string Rickenbacker chords (is there a sweeter sound in rock ‘n’ roll?) and good-humored looseness, you’ll feel compelled to sing along. “Until You Came Along,” “V,” “Pecan Pie,” “Looking Forward to Seeing You,” “To Call My Own” (with its “tit-tit-tit” nod to the Beatles’ “Girl”)—why these cuts couldn’t work in the guys’ respective bands is unclear,...
