The Wrath of Becky, a sequel to the very cool “ultra violent Home Alone” thriller Becky, which was released in 2020, made its world premiere at the SXSW Film Festival last month, and now Quiver Distribution has announced that they will be giving the film a theatrical release on May 26th! To help you decide whether or not you’ll want to see The Wrath of Becky on the big screen next month, we have the teaser trailer embedded above.
While the first Becky was directed by Jonathan Milott and Cary Murnion from a screenplay by Nick Morris, Ruckus Skye, and Lane Skye, The Wrath of Becky has been written and directed by Matt Angel and Suzanne Coote. Angel and Coote previously directed the Netflix thrillers The Open House and Hypnotic. Seven months have gone by since we heard the awesome news that production had wrapped on The Wrath of Becky, a sequel to the very cool “ultra violent Home Alone” thriller Becky (watch it Here, read the 9/10 review the film received from our own Lance Vlcek Here). We still don’t know when The Wrath of Becky is going to receive a wide release, but it has been announced that the movie is going to have a world premiere screening at the South by Southwest film festival in March – and along with that announcement comes the unveiling of a first look image, which can be seen at the bottom of this article. The image shows our heroine Becky, played by Lulu Wilson (Annabelle: Creation), at a moment where she’s soaked with blood.

Eight years since our last feature, we’re delighted to welcome Dn alum Tom Wakeling back to our pages. Back in 2014, we spoke with Wakeling about his short film Nightfall where the filmmaker discussed his affordable and accessible approach to dazzling special effects. Serendipitously, he returns today to discuss the effects he began developing on Nightfall that are featured in his latest short Pattern. Abstract in its vision, the short follows an individual who embraces light and a strange black substance that causes him to suffer through his repetitive approach. At its core, Wakeling’s film is an experimental sci-fi on the destructive cost of repetition and the human need to break out of cycles. We catch up with Wakeling below to discuss the development of his career over the last eight years, his continued fascination with creative special effects, and the power a score can have in bringing your thematic elements together.

Lulu Wilson (Modern Love) is set to return for Becky 2: The Wrath of Becky, a sequel to Quiver Distribution’s 2020 horror-thriller Becky, which will also star Seann William Scott (Welcome To Flatch).
In the original film, the spunky and rebellious teenager Becky (Wilson) tries to reconnect with her father (Joel McHale) during a weekend getaway at a lakefront house. But the trip soon takes a turn for the worse when convicts on the run, led by the merciless Dominick (Kevin James), suddenly invade the home. The feature found success, in spite of the fact that it was released at the height of the Covid pandemic, topping the June 5 weekend box office and earning the biggest opening weekend since mid-March of 2020.

[Note: With the film finally releasing on DVD, here’s a reposting of our review of Becky from last year]
Co-directing duo Jonathan Milott and Cary Murnion return for Becky, a smartly conceived home invasion thriller that plays like a twisted coming-of-age movie.
Rising star Lulu Wilson plays 13 year old Becky, who’s recently lost her mother to cancer and is horrified when her father Jeff (Joel McHale) tricks her into spending the weekend at their remote lakeside summer house with his new fiancée Kayla (Amanda Brugel) and her young son (Isaiah Rockcliffe). However, she barely has time to throw a strop before escaped convict Dominick (Kevin James) arrives with three henchmen in tow and begins torturing her father, demanding to know the whereabouts of a key.

Aside from horror, I've watched a lot of sitcoms over the years, and as someone who has seen The King of Queens in its entirety, I'm genuinely curious to see Kevin James play what is being described as a "merciless" villain in the upcoming home invasion movie Becky. Directed by Cary Murnion and Jonathan Milott (the filmmakers behind Cooties and Bushwick), and also starring Lulu Wilson and Joel McHale, Becky has been acquired by Quiver Distribution and Redbox Entertainment for a Digital and VOD release in the Us on June 5th:

Exclusive: Kevin James, who rose to success via comedies from CBS’ long-running The King of Queens to films like Paul Blart: Mall Cop and Grown Ups, is flipping the script. He has come aboard the action thriller Becky, where he is set to play the baddie opposite Annabelle: Creation and The Haunting of Hill House star Lulu Wilson.
James replaces Simon Pegg, who had been attached to the villain role in the pic from Yale Productions and BoulderLight Pictures. Producers cited a scheduling conflict as the reason for Pegg’s exit.

Conflict. If there is one thing a writer must both introduce and maintain to make for good drama, it’s conflict. A lot of other stuff, like character building, romance, action etc are also welcome, but without conflict you have no hook, nothing to set the drama the reader wants. Where Noel Clarke has excelled up to and including this issue is in introducing and maintaining that conflict, be it conflict with outside threats or conflict within the pseudo family/ team. Noel Clarke has so far delivered well above expectations with this book, and I’ve been enjoying the ride.
So far we have seen a mysterious benefactor, Edward, saving super powered individuals from some secret military group. So far these individuals, Terrain, Hotshot, and Virus have trusted him but that trust has reached its limit.

Comic-Con is over, and though we all couldn't make it, we can all get plenty of tastes of the excitement. Fox was out in full force at the event, and several shows were there chatting up fans, including some newcomers to the fall schedule.
Glee didn't quite have the A-List in attendance, and Terra Nova took over with the trailer of all solar-powered zaniness, but overall, fans appear to have had a great time no matter what show they were most interested in.
Fringe was a hit, with all the stars showing up, and much talk about Joshua Jackson, and shows like Allen Gregory and Napoleon Dynamite had the right names to be instant hits at the Con, even if the potential for the shows is still up in the air.
At any rate, I have a round-up for you of clips and images, just to give you a taste of what went on,...
