It lasts roughly a minute and consists of only a handful of shots (and none of Edgar Wright’s trademark visual wizardry), yet the moment in Shaun Of The Dead when Simon Pegg’s hapless hero and his group of survivors round the corner and bump into another group is possibly the film’s most ambitious gag. Mainly because the other gang is played by a who’s who (then and now) of British comedy: Martin Freeman, Reece Shearsmith, Tamsin Greig, Spaced mainstay Julia Deakin, Matt Lucas and, at the vanguard, Pegg’s Spaced co-creator, Jessica Hynes. A finer cavalcade of cameos, you’ll never see.

Nothing gold can stay, and to make room for everything new at Hulu in November, we have to say goodbye to dozens of the series and movies on the platform. The streamer will make room for its upcoming Christmas library by losing some of its horror-themed titles throughout the month, including “Stephen King's It,” most of its “Saw” franchise, and “Shaun Of The Dead.” Other major titles leaving the platform include Emma Stone’s breakthrough comedy “Easy A,” the Nora Ephron classic “Sleeping in Seattle,” and more.

Originally expected to be a six episode series, The Witcher prequel The Witcher: Blood Origin will be “a four-part special event” when it reaches the Netflix streaming service on December 25th. Our own Alex Maidy already had the chance to watch the show, giving it an 8/10 review you can read Here – and in his review he said, “The limited four-episode run is just long enough to build up the characters without overstaying its welcome. In fact, I would have enjoyed more episodes or even another standalone mini-series focused on this era.” During a recent interview with Netflix, showrunner Declan de Barra said the idea to cut the show down from six episodes to four came up in the editing room so the show could have “optimum story flow”.
The showrunner said, “This felt like a two-part movie. You never want to be watching a movie going, ‘I love this movie.

It's a big moment and suggests Jaskier will play a pivotal role in telling everyone about the events of the troubling time before humans existed in the Witcher universe.

Netflix dropped a new “The Witcher: Blood Origin” trailer at Ccxp down in Brazil on Saturday, offering a closer look at the four-part prequel event series and revealing that fan-favorite character Jaskier (Joey Batey) from the flagship Netflix series makes an appearance.
Set in an elven world 1200 years before the world of “The Witcher,” “Blood Origin” will tell a story lost to time – the creation of the first prototype Witcher, and the events that lead to the pivotal conjunction of the spheres, when the world of monsters, men, and elves merged to become one.
By the looks of this trailer the show is a bit more action/martial arts-heavy than the Henry Cavill-fronted original series, but it also looks to offer up answers to big questions posed in “The Witcher” – namely what in the world are those monoliths and what do they do.

Every year, the Base awards are a fantastic opportunity for the home entertainment community to come together and celebrate the successes but also the resilience and agility of our industry,” said Liz Bales, chief executive for Base. “I’d like to extend my huge congratulations to everyone who entered and won last night; the standard of submissions, once again, demonstrates the brilliance of our category, and completely blew us and the judges away. A massive thank you, as always, to the Base team for putting together such a memorable night and of course, to our fantastic judges and supporters who make evenings like this possible.

The Witcher franchise expands later this year on Netflix.
The streaming service announced Saturday during its Tudum Global Fan Event that The Witcher: Blood Origin will launch worldwide on December 25.
The six-part series is set in an elven world 1200 years before the world of The Witcher, and will tell a story lost to time - the creation of the first prototype Witcher, and the events that lead to the pivotal “conjunction of the spheres,” when the worlds of monsters, men, and elves merged to become one.
Yeoh is set to play Scian in the highly anticipated series.
"Scían is the very last of her nomadic tribe of sword-elves," reads the official character breakdown.
"No one can come close to her artistry with the blade, and no one carries as much loss within their heart."
"When a chance presents itself to retrieve a stolen sacred sword, taken from her fallen tribe by nefarious means,...

Netflix is making 2023 the year of “The Witcher.”
Announced at the streamer’s fan event Tudum on Saturday, the “Witcher” spinoff series “The Witcher: Blood Origin” will debut on Dec. 25, and Season 3 of the main “Witcher” show will follow in the summer of 2023.
Fans last visited “The Witcher” universe nearly one year ago, when Season 2 of the Henry Cavill fantasy series dropped in December 2021. Since then, it’s spawned even more spinoffs. In addition to the “Blood Origin” limited series, an anime feature is on the way and a family-friendly “Witcher” series is in the works.
Not much is known about “The Witcher” Season 3, but it will continue the story of Geralt of Rivia (Cavill), Ciri (Freya Allan) and Yennefer (Anya Chalotra). Joining the cast are Robbie Amell, Meng’er Zhang, Hugh Skinner and Christelle Elwin. Amell plays an elven fighter named Gallatin, who leads an army of guerrilla Scoia’tael fighting on behalf of Nilfgaard.

Google, it is reported, offers employees gourmet dining experiences on its campus. Apple, meanwhile, hired Stevie Wonder to play for its workforce. If the BBC is considering introducing a new employee perk to energise its staff, I’d like to suggest complimentary couples counselling. After the critically acclaimed misery of Stefan Golaszewski’s Marriage last month, comes the lighter companion piece, Stuck, a sitcom about the claustrophobia of cohabitation.

Netflix had announced that the prequel series The Witcher: Blood Origin, which is set in “an elven world” 1200 years before the events we saw in The Witcher, would have a six episode run. But now the Witcher fan site Redanian Intelligance reports that they’ve heard the show is being condensed from six episodes down to four.
Here’s the Redanian Intelligence report:
Keep in mind that the footage was already shot as six episodes, which likely means heavier editing and potentially lots of footage on the cutting room floor. To support that, we learned the writing credits for all of the Blood Origin episodes and they go like this:
Episode 1: Declan de Barra
Episode 2: Alex Meenehan/Aaron Stewart-Ahn
Episode 3: Tania Lotia/Kiersten Van Horne
Episode 4: Declan de Barra/Tasha Huo
We can’t claim to know all the ins and outs of how crediting works...

This post contains spoilers for The Witcher seasons one and two.
Nobody would say that The Witcher season two ended happily. After all, the season saw not only the death of Geralt’s beloved mare Roach, but also the revelation that the warlike Emperor Emhyr of Nilfgaard is in fact Duny, Ciri’s father. And yet, the season’s close found Yennefer’s magical abilities restored after expelling the demon Voleth Meir, and Ciri continuing her apprenticeship under the close eye of Geralt. The trio, separated over time, came together again to form something of a found family.
But to the surprise of no one, that family faces a terrible threat. With the announcement that production has begun on the third season of the Netflix series comes a synopsis describing the future for the White Wolf and his friends. Details were released via the show’s official Twitter account, indicating a future full of trouble.

Dylan Moran, who wrote and starred in cult show “Black Books” alongside Bill Bailey, is returning to television with a new comedy series “Stuck,” starring Morgana Robinson (“The Windsors”).
The series, which will begin shooting in Belfast this month, is described as “sometimes dark, sometimes surreal.” It is produced by Hat Trick Productions with Ian FitzGibbon (“Hullraisers”) set to direct.
“Stuck” explores the relationship between Dan (played by Moran) and Carla (Robinson) a couple with an age gap who are at a cross-roads. Dan has been made redundant; Carla is dissatisfied with her life. When Carla’s ex-girlfriend Maya re-appears, things start to get even more tricky.
As well as “Black Books,” Moran has appeared in “Shaun of the Dead,” “Notting Hill” and TV series “Uncle.” He can currently be seen as Uthrok One-Nut in “The Witcher: Blood Origin.”

Move over, Geralt, because there’s a new badass hero in the “Witcher” universe: Michelle Yeoh.
The first teaser trailer for the prequel series “The Witcher: Blood Origin” was released to fans who stuck around after the credits rolled on Season 2 of “The Witcher,” which dropped on Netflix Friday morning. It’s the first look at the spinoff series, which is set thousands of years before the adventures of Geralt, Ciri and Yennefer in the mainline “Witcher” show.
The teaser focuses on a trio of elves, played by Michelle Yeoh, Laurence O’Fuarain and Sophia Brown, who travel the wilderness and fight several groups of soldiers. It seems like they band together on their journey and recruit others, but at one point in the teaser the three heroes cross swords with each other.

Netflix has handed an early renewal to the widely popular series The Witcher, greenlighting Season 3 months before Season 2 drops in December.
The streamer unveiled a slew of The Witcher news at its virtual fan event Tudum on Saturday. The Witcher, which was one of Netflix’s most popular shows of 2019, stars Henry Cavill as the grim Geralt of Rivia, the bane of supernatural beasties, in a story of the intertwined destinies of three individuals in the vast world of The Continent, where humans, elves, witchers, gnomes, and monsters battle to survive and thrive, and where good and evil is not easily identified.
Set to debut on December 17, The Witcher Season 2 will follow Henry Cavill’s Geralt of Rivia who, convinced that Yennefer (Anya Chalotra) died at the gruesome Battle of Sodden, seeks to bring Princess Cirilla (Freya Allan) to the safest place he knows, his childhood home of Kaer Morhen.

Like other explorations into the world of The Witcher, the upcoming spin-off prequel The Witcher: Blood Origin both expands upon and provides context for the main series. With Netflix announcing the limited series’ cast, most of whom are playing elven characters, a few questions arise. How are the elves involved in the creation of the witcher race, and why is the so-called “conjunction of the spheres” at the center of not only this origin story but also the beginning of the fall of the elves?
UK fans may recognize a few faces among the cast, including comedian and children’s television cult star Lenny Henry who will play Balor, Dylan Moran (Black Books) who will play the humorously named Uthrok One-Nut, and Huw Novelli (The Capture), playing Callan “Brother Death.” But there are also several stage actors such as Zach Wyatt who will play the role of Syndril and Amy Murray who will portray Fenrik,...

"Oh you've got a sense of humor, I like that." Paramount UK has released an official UK trailer for the crime comedy Pixie, the latest film from St Trinian's director / producer Barnaby Thompson. The name seems to possibly be a play on the manic pixie dream girl stereotype, offering a character that uses that kind of charm but is actually just another gangster. To avenge her mother's death, Pixie masterminds a heist but must flee across Ireland from gangsters, take on the patriarchy, and choose her own destiny. Olivia Cooke stars as Pixie in Pixie, with a full cast including Ben Hardy, Daryl McCormack, Alec Baldwin, Colm Meaney, Ned Dennehy, Dylan Moran, and Sebastian De Souza. This looks like it has some amusing gangster humor, along with plenty of crime antics galore. Worth a look to watch Olivia Cooke outsmarting everyone. While Halloween season is officially over, the world of horror (and sci-fi) marches on with this week’s Blu-ray and DVD releases. November 5th is probably one of our quieter days of home media releases in some time, but that doesn’t mean there isn’t some killer stuff to get excited for. Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark arrives on Tuesday on multiple formats, and for those of you who love Galaxy Quest as much as I do, the sci-fi comedy is celebrating its 20th anniversary with a brand new Steelbook as well.
All three entries in Edgar Wright’s Cornetto Trilogy are headed to 4K this week—Shaun of the Dead, Hot Fuzz and The World’s End—and for those of you who were unable to keep up with it on Amazon, the Good Omens series hits both Blu and DVD this Tuesday.

Which is Better is a new column here on Nerdly where we’ll pick two related movies and discuss each of them, and then conclude which we think is the best one. It might be about films of a similar type, or sequels in comparison to the first film, or the original film and its eventual remake, we might even do it for full film franchises. For this column I’m going to focus on two popular zombie comedy flicks. It’s the battle of the zom-coms!
Shaun Of The Dead vs. Zombieland
Okay, okay… so both of these films are excellent in their own rights. Both films have their fans. One of them, Zombieland, is even seeing a sequel soon, starring the same group of survivors as last time. When I think of zombie comedies, of which there are some really fun ones, the top of the pack always...

This is a great cast, and a cool and interesting sounding story. I love a good revenge story, and I love the setting.
