This story contains some spoilers for the "Doctor Who" episode "The End of Time, Part 1," that aired Dec. 25 on BBC and Dec. 26 on BBC America. Are some of the things you're hearing about "Doctor Who" post David Tennant, Russell T. Davies and Julie Gardner sounding a little retro to you? Well, that's by design. Steven Moffat is looking to restore the BBC icon to its classic roots that some are describing as an effort to integrate fans of the original "Doctor Who" series. However, others say it's more about what Moffat likes. "Every showrunner has brought their own personal touch to 'Doctor Who,' and [Moffat] is someone who just can't get away from the episodes we all grew up with," a source, who wished not to be named, told Airlock Alpha. "There is just something to the original »

The first part of "The End of Time", David Tennant's final adventure as The Doctor on "Doctor Who", aired Friday evening in the UK and just a few hours ago States-side. In Britain the episode pulled in ten million viewers, down nearly two million on the previous year though all programs on Xmas Day this year saw notable audience drops.
Us ratings have yet to be released, though BBC America is firmly planting its foot in the 'Who' basket with plans to run a non-stop marathon of all of David Tennant's 48 episodes starting with "The Christmas Invasions" at midnight on New Year's Day right through to its premiere screening of "The End of Time Part Two" the following evening at 8:30pm.
Reviews proved quite mixed for the episode with complaints of padding and it essentially serving as pure setup with all the big stuff saved for next week's 75-minute finale. »

Can someone please get an Ood to clarify whether ‘The End Of Time Part One’ was a bad dream in itself? If not, then someone had better tell Matt Smith and Steven Moffat to get a bloody move on. More bloated than The Master after stuffing that turkey down his neck, the opening part of David Tennant’s final adventure was an unfocussed disappointment, albeit with several strong moments along the way and the promise that the real action and story still awaits. Doctor Who is at its best when you can see the danger developing, as in the brilliant ’The Waters Of Mars’. Here, the plot felt overly contrived and convenient. Contraptions such as the Immortality Gate and the potions that resurrected The Master were conjured up all too conveniently amidst a veil of gobbledygook. In conjunction with The Ham Factor winner Joshua Naismith and two green aliens (more »

With the holiday season upon us, now is the time to sit back, relax and enjoy the company of your loved ones. Although, if you’re the part of the world where snow is common (like myself), you’re already sick of the white devil powder that covers everything. Fortunately, we’ve got more important things to worry about. What’s so important, you ask? Well, it’s just The End Of Time.
Not only the end of time, but also the end of an era. Since the 2005 return of Doctor Who, we’ve been blessed with two wonderful actors portraying the Doctor, Christopher Eccleston and David Tennant. It’s been over 4 years since we said goodbye to Eccleston and now the time is upon us again.
Time to say goodbye to David Tennant.
Let’s all be honest, when Eccleston announced his intentions of leaving the show after only »

Ahead of David Tennant's last turn as timelord, producer says he aimed to translate talent show's success into drama
They have both revived Saturday night television, but on the face of it Pop Idol and Doctor Who would appear to have little in common. But as fans of the sci-fi drama prepare to witness the death of David Tennant's Doctor this Christmas, it has emerged that the talent show forerunner of The X Factor was a key inspiration for the timelord's creative rebirth.
"It was the biggest Saturday night show then," said Doctor Who's executive producer, Russell T Davies. "We used to gather around at a friend's house to watch the final and vote, and I wanted to do that with drama. If we could have the voice at the beginning of The X Factor introducing each episode I would do it."

Yesterday evening saw the invitation only preview screening of The End of Time, Part One - marking the following seven days as unsafe for anyone wishing to avoid Doctor Who spoilers. In attendance was Russell T Davies who revealed that he is very proud of the work done on the final episodes of his time in charge, as well as poking some fun at Steven Moffat. He also hinted: "We've got one or two surprises in store before the episode on New Year's Day - and it might not be quite what »

Another year come and gone, and now I have to give another wish list regarding the state of television and what I view as my ideal. Since I know that my tastes are very different than those of the general public, I'm not expecting much in the way of agreement. But that's okay. We're all different, and that's a good thing.
The end of reality television - I just want this genre to die a horrible, slow, painful death, preferably involving leeches. I recognize that there are some gems in this pile of crap, but I loathe those sorts of shows that appeal to the worst and most gossipy nature within us. Get rid of them all. Except for those on the Food Network, because that channel is cool. A stellar fifth year of the new Doctor Who - Admittedly, I was hesitant when they hired Matt Smith as The Doctor, »

Russell T Davies, who will step down as Doctor Who showrunner at the end of this year, has admitted he would love to get the Time Lord on to the big screen.
Davies' four-year stint as lead writer and executive producer on the sci-fi series comes to a close when the second part of The End of Time airs on New Year's Day.
That story will see David Tennant's character regenerate into the 11th Doctor, played by Matt Smith, and Steven Moffat taking on Davies' job for the next full series.
There was mounting speculation earlier this year that a Doctor Who movie would be announced at San Diego Comic-Con but it never happened.
Now, Davies - whose behind-the-scenes book The Writer's Tale comes out in the new year - has indicated his interest in such a project.
Davies, who was talking in showbiz publication The Stage, revealed that »

Spoilers Ahead...
The Waters of Mars sees the Doctor arrive on Mars in 2059, where mankind has established its first colony off Earth.
A small group at the outpost led by Captain Adelaide Brooke (Lindsay Duncan) are using water from an underground glacier to grow vegetation.
But the ice harbours a water-borne lifeform which begins to infect people, turning them into water-spewing zombies.
The Doctor recalls future records that told of the colonists all dying in an unexplained explosion and realises the destruction of the outpost and its inhabitants is a fixed point in time which must be left intact.
He concludes that they must die in order to stop the virus being transported to Earth and so that Brooke's demise inspires her descendants to take to the stars.

Steven Moffat's recent appearance at Days 3 and 4 of the Cheltenham Screenwriting Festival have been covered by the ScreenwritingGoldmine.com website in a superb article that even throws into question the belief that Doctor Who has a "show runner"... You see apparently BBC's Head of Series and Serials Kate Harwood has said that he isn't - the BBC only has ‘lead writers’ apparently as the option to pay enough to justify the "show runner" title simply isn't »

The Grand Moff appeared at the annual Screenwriters' Festival in Cheltenham last Thursday night - and revealed little about his upcoming first series of Doctor Who. Instead, Steven Moffat (interviewed by regular Dwm contributor Benjamin Cook) gave the audience more of an insight into how he thinks and works - and the results have been recorded by Digital Spy. There is a lot to read so hot foot it over there now - although if you're pushed for time, The Grand Moff has the following words of »

Against a backdrop of Waters of Mars airdates and a sad David Tennant, Steven Moffat has hailed new Doctor Who Matt Smith as the best yet! (Of course, he would say that - he picked him!) Steven Moffat proclaimed Matt Smith as "the best" and described him as resembling a "drunken giraffe". "He's all the things you'd expect, including ancient," he revealed, describing the new Doctor as "someone you can't take your eyes off". Speaking at the 2009 »

Prepare for some spoilers. Don't say I didn't warn you. By the way, Matt Smith is the 11th Doctor (or the 12th, depending on how they spin David Tennant's extraneous regeneration) in case you didn't know.
Actually, it's not that bad. From an article posted on The Doctor Who News Page, it is learned that his new companion, Amy, is a police officer. In a few photos, he also seems to be wearing the remnants of Tennant's outfit. From the description, the Doctor is probably going through some post-regenerative trauma. When has the Doctor ever regenerated without trauma? Never, I think.
I know they film out of order, but it feels odd to know already what his outfit is going to look like. Here is one other possible minor spoiler: in the scenes filmed, the Sonic Screwdriver gets destroyed (and Matt Smith was slightly injured in the process). Between »

The Caves of Androzani has been voted the top Doctor Who TV tale in a new poll.
The story gained the highest score in a poll in Doctor Who Magazine, in which 6,700 people took part.
It aired in four episodes in March 1984 and marked the last appearance of 5th Doctor Peter Davison and the first appearance of the 6th incarnation played by Colin Baker.
As the Doctor regenerated, he was asked by companion Peri Brown what was happening and replied: "Change, my dear, and it seems not a moment too soon..."
Davison told the magazine: "As I think David Tennant will be finding out now, it's a traumatic experience to leave Doctor Who, even if it's your own decision. So I didn't really watch Doctor Who after I left, until it came back, of course - and I always thought it would."
On the Androzani storyline he said: "It was »
