Mod DVDs are a boon to genre movie fans. Studios are releasing movies that wouldn't generate enough profits to make a wide release feasible, thus allowing fans to purchase films that might have remained in a vault forever. The cost is a bit of an issue (you can't wait for these titles to end up in a Walmart dump bin sale), but at least one can buy a decent quality DVD without resorting to bootleg copies.
That said, I doubt many horror fans were clamoring for Doctor Blood's Coffin, a recent addition to the MGM Limited Edition Collection. While the film does feature the lovely Hazel Court, its plodding story and lack of monster action dooms this 1961 British horror film to being little more than a decent time-waster you'd catch on television.

The Chicago Underground Film Festival is always a special occasion, but the 17th edition of this venerable institution, which runs on June 24 – July 1, is a little bit extra special. This year, Cuff will be honoring the lifelong underground film champion Jonas Mekas with their Lifetime Achievement Award!
Mekas will be in attendance at the festival at will appear at several screenings in his honor. On the 25th, there will be a screening of the new documentary Visionaries: Jonas Mekas and the (Mostly) American Avant-Garde, at which director Chuck Workman, Mekas and underground film historian Fred Camper will participate in a Q&A. Then, on the 26th, several of Mekas’ own films will screen and he’ll be presented with his award.
As for the rest of the fest, Cuff usually has some sort of unifying theme, at least as far as the features go. It’s not typically a stated theme,...

The latest edition of Toronto’s mighty Images Festival will unspool on April 1-10. The full lineup of films screening at this event is listed below and, even though that looks quite extensive as it is, it’s only a small portion of everything that’s going on during the entire event.
In addition to film screenings, Images has partnered with 15 galleries and museums across the greater Toronto area to display 32 media art installations by both Canadian and international artists. Plus, there will be eight live performances that blur the edges of cinema, sound, music and installations. And, on top of all that, there will be several panel discussions with artists and other media folk, parties, award ceremonies, tours and more. This is more art and film than should be allowed in any one city, yet Images manages to squeeze it all in into just 10 days somehow.

Walgreens, the $59 billion drugstore giant, is building its own universal health-care system, with more than 700 retail and corporate clinics.
Everyone knows Gary Gustin. When he walks through the halls of L-3 Communications' Camden, New Jersey, office, he gets smiles and hellos from everyone he meets. Gustin isn't the CEO or the guy who developed the defense contractor's secure BlackBerry substitute for President Obama. He's a Walgreens employee.
Not that any of L-3's 1,100 workers in Camden know, or care. When they see Gustin, they see the nurse manager who has attended to them for nine years. "They see us as a friendly face, and they trust us," he says. "And we have to work very closely with them, so we need it that way."
L-3's employees have what all Americans, particularly the almost 46 million uninsured, want from the health-care system: convenience, ease of access, transparent pricing (in L-3's case,...

Walgreen Co., like many other companies that touch the medical industry, is eagerly eyeing the outcome of President Obama's health-care reform initiative. But no matter what happens in Washington, Walgreen wins. "Whatever happens is good for us," says Hal Rosenbluth, president of Walgreens Health and Wellness, who visited Fast Company's office yesterday afternoon. "If it passes, we're ready to be part of delivering universal care, and if it doesn't, more people are going to need affordable health care, even at a cash price, and that's what we provide."
Rosenbluth, who scored when he sold his business-to-business travel-management company Rosenbluth International to American Express in 2003, has long been an innovator. He turned to the health-care business while he was decompressing on his North Dakota cattle ranch. "I was talking to Peter Miller [then a Johnson & Johnson executive] and trying to figure out the biggest problem we could try to solve," he says. "We came up with high-quality affordable health care.
