Hollywood agency ICM Partners has come on board Rohena Gera’s festival favorite “Sir” and will represent it for sales in Anglophone markets U.S., U.K. and Australia, among other territories. The Hollywood agency will also serve as the film’s awards season lobbyist.
A delicately observed study of class differences in Indian society, “Sir” stars Tillotama Shome as a domestic live-in help with Vivek Gomber, a man from a wealthy family who seems to have it all, but is somewhat lost. As their worlds collide and the two individuals connect, the barriers between them seem only more insurmountable.
The cast also includes Divya Seth Shah, Geetanjali Kulkarni, Bhagyashree Pandit, Anupriya Goenka and Bachan Pachera.
“We have a very intimate yet hierarchical relationship with the people who work in our homes,” Gera said. “I wanted to explore that without being preachy, and a love story allowed me to do that.

In his novel Tomorrow In The Battle Think On Me, Javier Marías writes about the transformation of our most precious belongings into trash, when “everything that had meaning and history loses it in a single moment and my belongings lie there inert, suddenly incapable of revealing their past and their origins; and someone will make a pile of them.”

M antra – The Song of Scorpions is one of the twenty-three films selected for the co- production market of Film Bazaar 2013. We spoke to the director Anup Singh:

Tell us about your project. What language will it be in?
There is an ancient legend, which says that the sting of the local scorpion in Rajasthan is bound to kill in 24 hours. The scorpion’s poison builds a feverish melody within the victim. The only cure is to find a sage singer who can read the melody in the victim’s wrist and then sing a counter-melody.
Mantra- The Song Of Scorpions is a contemporary tale of twisted love, revenge and the redemptive power of a song, which unfurls like a folktale. Nooran is a singer, a scorpion healer, a mid-wife and a medicine woman for the Manganiar community of Rajasthan. When Irfan, a camel trader in the desert community,...

Farhan Akhtar has never been scared of a challenge, as a director/producer he changed the cinematic landscape in India with his directorial debut, created a production house with a unique esthetic voice and vision backing some dark horse projects successfully all in what seems a very short time span. Now as an actor he is stepping away from his comfort zone of playing 30-something urbanites to Bhaag Milka Bhaag, a sports biopic of Milka Singh, also known as the Flying Sikh, the only Indian male athlete to win an Individual athletics Gold in Commonwealth Games.
Biopics aren’t my favorite genre of movies and it’s only been a recent trend to make them since the massive success of The Dirty Picture, add to that sports movies of which only a handful have been really worked Box Office wise (Chak De India, Jo Jeeta Wohi Sikander), on top of...

Partho Sen-Gupta’s Sunrise has on board Bero Beyer (Augustus Film, Netherlands) and Fabian Massah (Endorphine Productions, Germany) apart from Rakesh Mehra (Independent Movies, Mumbai) and Nfdc. The co-production deals were finalized at Marche du Films in Cannes Film Festival.
Sunrise, which deals with child abuse, will feature Adil Hussain (Life of Pi) and Tannishtha Chatterjee (Brick Lane). The project is expected to go into production early next year.
“ It’s great for me as a large weight has been shifted from my shoulders as I can pass the baton to them and stick only to the creative process of the film. Nfdc backing it also gave the impetus that we were waiting for. But I think that the 156 crowd-funders are the real heroes of the film project,” said Sen-Gupta.
Sen-Gupta has earlier collected $21, 000 for Sunrise on crowd funding website indiegogo.com.
The film will now be an Indo-German-Dutch co-production with a mixed international crew.

Though still new to the Hindi film music industry, Ash King certainly has made his mark. He quite impressively began by singing for Ar Rahman on the Delhi 6 Ost and then we heard him on ‘Suno Aisha’ from Aisha. He sang some great tracks in 2011 including the hits ‘Te Amo’ from Dum Maaro Dum and ‘I Love You’ from Salman Khan’s Bodyguard. With each new track his voice sounds completely different and that is what makes him so good. In fact, when I first heard his newest track, the rock/jazz infused ‘Aunty Ji’ from the upcoming film Ek Main Aur Ekk Tu, I went searching to find out who this new singer was only to find out it was Ash in a completely different singing avatar! Ash took time out tell Stacey about the song, his new sound and what it’s like to work in Bollywood’s playback singing industry.
