On Saturday, the stars of Stargate Atlantis reunited for a panel at Comic-Con@Home, reminiscing about their first Comic-Con appearance as cast members, their initial perceptions of the show and more.
Kicking off the discussion of the cast’s first convention appearance was Rainbow Sun Francks. The actor, who played Lt. Aiden Ford, remembered that his first Comic-Con as part of Stargate was “crazy,” which led David Nykl and other cast members to chime in with further details.
“It was really daunting,” said Nykl, who played Dr. Radek Zelenka. “You’ve got to develop this sort of onstage convention personality, which is like a hybrid between your character and yourself. We had to learn that.”
Actress Torri Higginson (Dr. Elizabeth Weir) recalled that “the studio gave us all free liquor the night before” the panel. Naturally, then, she and her co-stars ended up with “a hangover that only new actors with free liquor would have.

While surely not without its flaws, I'm happy to announce that Dark Matter Season 2 Episode 7 is an improvement over its immediate predecessor, which was easily my least favorite episode so far this season.
And while "She's One of Them Now" can't be described as my favorite, I definitely enjoyed certain aspects of it, particularly the heist aspect of it all.
To get it out of the way first of all, let's talk about Devon and what happened at the end of the episode. To be perfectly honest, the treatment of his character left me scratching my head. If Devon is indeed dead, I can't help but feel frustrated that his character was killed in favor of forwarding Nyx's storyline while he barely got any development of his own.
Only now, seven episodes in, did we learn much of anything other than he's a nice doctor who also happens to be a drug addict.

Nothing
Written by Andrew Lowery and Andrew Miller
Directed by Vincenzo Natali
Canada, 2003
If Cube (1997) was writer-director Vincenzo Natali’s crack at a gruesome, Sartre/Kafka-tinged Twilight Zone episode, then his 2003 film Nothing is his take on the Theatre of the Absurd, a stripped-down character study about two losers interacting with little more than each other and the vast emptiness of the infinite. It’s as if Waiting for Godot‘s Vladimir and Estragon were farting around one day and discovered that they had the power to edit reality. It’s also a funny and ultimately warm film, the clear product of work made among friends. But as light and comic as it is, there’s plenty of pathos to go around; friendships falter when people change, making the world go away doesn’t help a lick, and even in a fantasy world where you can take yourself completely out of all systems,...

There is yet to be an official announcement about the cast and production details, but Twitch has learned that David Hewlett, probably most widely known around the world as Dr. Rodney McKay from the Stargate television franchise, is prepping his second feature film. Plans are for it to be shot here in Toronto. He will be directing his own screenplay, Debug. Here's what we know of the premise:Six young computer hackers, sent to work on a derelict space freighter, are forced to match wits with a vengeful artificial intelligence that would kill to be human. Ooh. Count us in for horrific body augmentation! ...

Maryland Del. Emmett Burns, Jr. has backed off his demand that Brendon Ayanbadejo be forced to be silent on the subject of marriage equality, and his reasoning sounds awfully familiar. "Upon reflection, he has his First Amendment rights. And I have my First Amendment rights. … Each of us has the right to speak our opinions. The football player and I have a right to speak our minds." For the record, Ellen DeGeneres has offered to fly Ayanbadejo to California to tape her show this week.

Joel Goldsmith, composer for “Stargate Sg-1″, “Star Trek” and “Call of Duty 3″ passed away on April 29, aged 54.
Joel, the eldest son of highly regarded film composer Jerry Goldsmith started his career creating sound effects for “Star Trek The Motion Picture”, but got his break scoring the music for ”Laserblast” and Steve Martin’s ”The Man With Two Brains.” He went on to write music for over 350 episodes of “Stargate” in its various franchise forms. He also helped his father and long time Star Trek composer Jerry Goldsmith, by scoring the first 20 minutes of “Star Trek First Contact”. He was making his move into videogames and composed the soundtrack to the hugely popular “Call of Duty 3″.
Joel Goldsmith was nominated for three Emmy awards in his career. In 1998 for the “Sg-1″ episode “The Nox,” in 2005 for the main title theme for “Atlantis,” and in 2006 for the “Atlantis” episode “Grace Under Pressure.

Welcome back to Celebrity Twitterwatch, where we take a look at what those shiny, happy people are saying about the world they live in and tweet about while we head to our 9-5 jobs, assuming we still have jobs in this economy.
Out rugby star Gareth Thomas has been keeping strange hours providing commentary for the Rugby World Cup, taking place on the opposite side of the world in New Zealand. He's been tweeting up a storm about his sleep patterns, cars coming to pick him up, and the stamina of his fellow talking heads. He also took a minute to thank Jaeger for providing his suit jackets and making him look professional. Still, based on this tweet, I'm assuming behind the desk, he's just got on the jacket and shirt, and no pants, just trunks like he wore to practice his harp.

Cori suggested we gaze at the nerdalicious David Hewlett. So here we are. Doctor Rodney McKay was hot not because he was a jerk -- which he was, sometimes -- but because he was a real scientist, and because he was totally justified in acting like he was twice as smart as everyone else around him: And also with the cute: Not the best picture of Hewlett, but the ideas it sets off... oy! I’m posting pictures like these every weekday-ish, of a man who is attractive and desirable, because I like to look, dammit -- and because the female gaze doesn’t have to be such serious business. (If you have a suggestion for someone we should female-gaze at, feel free to email me with a name or a link to a particular photo. But check to see whom we’ve already gazed at.)...

So there's yet another Planet of the Apes movie coming out, a series I have always had a problem with. Human beings are apes. Therefore, we currently live on a planet of apes. Bad labeling irritates me. In any case, below we have a clip from the film, which features not only John Lithgow going full Alzheimer's, but a tasty looking breakfast, and an introduction from Andy Serkis, explaining that with new technology the studio has actually let him see daylight for the first time in a decade in addition to allowing him to speak to other actors on a limited basis.
You know, I really hope that they have a shout out to Stargate and have David Hewlitt's character actually be named Rodney McKay, because I don't think any of his colleagues at Stargate Command would be surprised in the least to see him mauled by an angry...

['Stargate Universe' - 'The Hunt']
Rodney McKay was out of sight, but this week's episode of 'Stargate Universe' still inspired memories of the sunnier 'Stargate Atlantis.' A big, scary monster attacked our heroes during a scout trip and took two people captive, leading the team to embark on a dangerous rescue mission on an alien planet.
I make the 'Atlantis' comparison here because the plot of 'The Hunt,' at first blush anyway, felt like the same kind of well-worn sci-fi story that 'Atlantis' rehashed several times during its five season run: Alien creature attacks, important person is taken, others risk their lives to rescue them. But the comparisons pretty much end there. Despite some monster attack scenes and some so-so creature feature CGI, 'The Hunt' was less about reveling in sci-fi/action-adventure tropes and more about exploring Ronald Greer's troubled soul.

After about four weeks of Stargate Universe review blackouts, I've returned to discuss the show after getting over a qualm I had about continuing the reviews even though the show is about to end. Prolonged frustration of the show's cancellation caught up to me after reviewing "Deliverance," putting me in a state of mind of "Why Bother?" when it came to trekking on in the Sgu review department. I sadly, and shamefully, admit my faux pas and hope that I didn't disappoint anyone in light of my severe lapse in judgment and hope you will continue with me on the final journey of the crew of the Destiny.

Some "Stargate: Atlantis" fans have their thoughts on what eventually killed "Stargate: Universe" after two seasons. But now one of the most popular actors from the previous Syfy show has shared his own beliefs. David Hewlett, who reprised his role of Dr. Rodney McKay in this week's episode of Sgu, said the new show simply caught fans by surprise. While it may have been time for a change, it could've been too much of a change to take all at once. "I think the biggest detriment they had was that people came from watching 'Atlantis' expecting more of the same from Sgu, and it was a really different change of direction," Hewlett told TV Squad's Mike Moody. "And it's beautifully done. I think the problem they came up against was that they had a very strong existing fan base for something ...

David Hewlett has insisted that the Stargate franchise still has a future. The actor played Dr. Rodney McKay on Stargate: Atlantis from 2004 to 2009 and has also made guest appearances on Stargate Sg-1 and Stargate: Universe. "I think Stargate is the perfect franchise to apply to the multi-platform [model]," he told TV Squad. "I know they were trying to get games going and stuff, but it was a victim, I think, to the big shake-up at MGM." Hewlett suggested that the final episode of axed Syfy series Stargate: Universe will not be "the last that we'll see" of the brand. "It (more)...

['Stargate Universe' - 'Seizure']
This week's episode of 'Stargate Universe' saw the welcome return of two 'Stargate' franchise vets and the unfortunate "quarantine" of two lovely new characters. 'Seizure' was all over the map emotionally, offering fun winks and nods to die-hard fans, a tense espionage plot, and a tragic B story.
Let's get to the fun stuff first ... How 'bout a big hand for David Hewlett and the triumphant return of Dr. Rodney McKay! Considering the stark contrast in tone between 'Stargate Atlantis' and 'Sgu,' McKay's presence here could have easily felt forced and awkward. Instead, it felt solid and satisfying.
Hewlett, episode scribe Remi Aubuchon, and director Helen Shaver managed to create a version of McKay who looked and acted like he belonged on 'Sgu' without sacrificing the things we love about the character (like his endless arrogance, below par social skills and genuine brilliance). Even the...

Smart, geeky, passionate and verbose -- not only could that description suit 'Stargate Atlantis''s science wiz Rodney McKay, it also fits the actor who played him, nerd-for-hire David Hewlett.
Two years after viewers waved goodbye to McKay and Hewlett in the 'Atlantis' series finale, the fan-friendly genre actor is resurrecting his most famous role tonight with a guest spot on Syfy's 'Stargate Universe' (Mon., April 4, 10Pm Et).
We got a chance to chat with Hewlett about bringing McKay back to 'Stargate,' a franchise that's in danger of disappearing from the TV landscape after the recent cancellation of 'Sgu.'
Hewlett, who blogs about his work and life for Syfy's Blastr site, offered his thoughts about the future of 'Stargate' and what it was like playing McKay on 'Sgu,' a show he said exists in "a different world when compared to the other 'Stargate's.

Well, it seems the death of Sgu has taken another casualty with it. The planned Stargate: Atlantis film known around fan circles as Stargate: Extinction was planned as another straight-to-dvd film in the franchise, and the first revolving around the crew if Atlantis.
Executive producer Joseph Mallozzi took to his blog to answer fan questions and shared the news.
“I’m sorry to say but the cancellation puts the brakes on whatever progress the ‘Sga’ movie had made in the past month, shelving it indefinitely,” Mallozzi wrote.
“The cancellation of ‘Sgu’ is very bad news for those looking forward to an ‘Atlantis’ movie,” he said.
There is going to be a bridge moment for Atlantis fans in the upcoming back nine episodes of Sgu that will air before the show ends indefinitely. In the planned episode, Rodney McKay returns, whereas actor David Hewlett will reprise his beloved character.

It's family reunion time on How I Met Your Mother.
Here at Twitterwatch, we mostly focus on the celebrities. But some celebrities have so much personality that they need a second identity just to hold it all. That character then comes to life and gets a publicist and a Twitter account all their own. With the fall television season around the corner, those personalities are waking up, and that's where we'll start today before hitting Broadway, knights, and even some male models.
We knew that Neil Patrick Harris' How I Met Your Mother character was going to discover his father isn't Bob Barker this season. So it makes sense that his family would be part of that journey, including his gay brother James, played by Wayne Brady. Sounds like they've filmed at least part of the arc.
We know from our own Michael Jensen's experience at TCA that...

Looking good, Gareth.
Here at Twitterwatch, we don't get out of the house much, so committed are we to providing you with comprehensive coverage of the world of celebrity Twitter. But that doesn't mean the celebrities themselves are sitting along in a dark room only illuminated by a television and nine computer monitors. They're out partying with friends.
Speaking of a party, it looks like Gareth Thomas found somewhere to relax recently. This is his new Twitter picture, and boys, he's 35-years-old. Those Wolf Pack children we pictured yesterday should crawl back to their den with their tails between their legs after basking in Gareth's abs. How does he do it? You're only as old as you feel – or something like that.
I'm assuming some partying will take place tonight in New York City, as local favorite Nick Adams is turning 27-years-old today. Happy birthday, Nick.
Just don't buy him any chairs.
