It was the 75th anniversary of the Cannes Film Festival this year and certainly the fest itself thought that alone was cause for celebration, and they did exactly that, but they were not the only ones with reason to party. As the pandemic cancelled the 2020 fest, and downsized the 2021 fest, there was definitely a feeling that it was time to party again in Cannes, just like it was 2019 all over again. And that certainly was the vibe when amFAR returned to form Thursday night, making money to benefit the continuing fight against AIDS, even if it seems that the cause has been overshadowed by Covid in recent times. amFAR chairmen T. Ryan Greenawalt and Kevin McClatchy made the point that while many countries were doing better, others weren’t, and they offered the troubling statistic that still there are 2,000 AIDS-related deaths every day, and 4,000 new infections daily.

Sharon Stone will host the 27th annual amfAR Cannes Gala on July 16.
The gala will take place outdoors at Villa Eilenroc and consist of an exclusive dinner, auction, multiple performances and a fashion show curated by French fashion editor Carine Roitfeld. Simon de Pury and Sandra Nedvedskaia will conduct the live auction, which will include the fashion show designs as well as a collection of artworks and luxury items.
Stone spoke about her work as an AIDS advocate last month at the groundbreaking of Stories: The AIDS Monument in West Hollywood Park. “The main thing I learned from being an AIDS worker was that it wasn’t just about AIDS. It’s about looking at the person next to you and accepting them no matter what,” she said, wiping away tears. “Because you know what? We’re in it together.”

The Lodge sees a couple’s quiet weekend break turn into a nightmarish fight for survival – think a low-budget The Shining meets The People Under the Stairs by way of Hostel and you’ll be somewhere close. The film follows Michael (Szabo) and Julia (Kell), who are staying at a secluded lodge on a weekend away. The pair discover that they are not alone when they encounter caretaker Henry (McClatchy). When he acts suspiciously, the couple investigate but the closer they come to revealing Henry’s secret, the more unlikely they are to make it out alive…

Newcomers to influential list include drag queen RuPaul and statistician Nate Silver but no public figure outed for the first time
As Us senators race to announce their support for gay marriage, and public support for gay couples to wed increases, perhaps it's not surprising that Out magazine couldn't find a closeted public figure to unmask for the first time in its latest list of the most powerful gay men and women in the Us.
In the past, the magazine has included figures it knew to be gay but who had not made public declarations: Anderson Cooper and Jodie Foster were cover stars in 2007, but it was only last year that both publicly announced they were gay.
That said, the magazine has not shied from placing Apple's CEO Tim Cook at the top of its latest list, published on Wednesday. The Fox News anchor Shepard Smith is at No 8, and...

Even though the quote is from 2011, GQ found it worth revisiting what Javier Bardem said when Spain achieved marriage equality. "In a deeply Catholic country, he's an atheist. ('I've always said I don't believe in God, I believe in Al Pacino.') When gay marriage was legalized in Spain in 2005, he was quoted as saying that if he was gay, 'I would get married tomorrow, just to f*ck with the Church.'"
I'm not normally one for reboots, but I think I could really enjoy a Mr. Ed movie, except for the fact that when you're named Ed to start with, you get a lot of horse jokes.
In case you were concerned, any ban on public nudity in San Francisco would exempt fairs and parades, like Pride and Folsom Street, which is happening now in the city by the bay.

I hadn’t heard of it before getting it, and wasn’t quite sure what to make of it but the muted sense of doom I got from the cover, which both impressed me by not being a rip-off of some other “classic” movie poster, but also pretty much spelled out the tone and a decent part of the plot of the movie; Cabins in the woods are not to [...]...
