Olivia Thirlby is set to investigate a brutal murder as the star of The White Orchid, The Hollywood Reporter has learned exclusively. The noir thriller from writer-director Steve Anderson follows Claire Decker (Thirlby), a shy, part-time social services investigator working in Morro Bay, Calif. While she typically spends her working hours tracking down the relatives of elderly people who have died alone at home, her boss (Jennifer Beals) assigns her to help a local sheriff (John Carroll Lynch) solve the brutal murder of a beautiful blonde known only as The White Orchid. The film, which recently wrapped principal photography, is from Santana Films, a creative partnership between the Humphrey Bogart Estate and Anderson. It also stars Janina Gavankar (True Blood), Brendan Sexton (The Killing), Nichelle Nichols (Star Trek’s original Lt. Uhura) and Raymond J. Barry (Training Day). The film is executive produced by Bogart Estate managers Robbert de Klerk and Stephen Bogart, the son of Humphrey Bogart and Lauren Bacall. Josh Mandel and Jeff Marchelletta from Industry Standard Films are on board as producers. Los Angeles-based boutique venture capital fund Orange Equity provided financing.
