Alice in Wonderland is always a trippy experience, and the BBC version is no exception. This black and white televised play, however, is quite a bit different from the upbeat and silly Disney adaptation and most likely the colorful and fantastical Burton flick. No, this is a darker, more disturbing account of Alice’s journey to Wonderland, one that takes this story from a tale for children to a horrifying, less engaging play no one under 40 would want to sit through.
The worst part of the film is Alice. It’s no surprise that this was Anne-Marie Mallik’s first and only acting role. Half the time she stares into space, even when she is supposed to be having a conversation. She barely ever faces the person she is talking to. And of course, while she’s having conversations and looking the other way, her lips aren’t moving. Are these telepathic exchanges,...

Chicago – As a character in Syfy’s version of “Alice” says, “Does this look like a kid’s story to you?” Excepting, of course, the beloved Disney version, there have actually been a number of takes on “Alice in Wonderland” arguably made more for adults than children. Two such versions from very different eras have been released on Blu-ray and DVD to coincide with the theatrical dominance of Johnny Depp & Tim Burton’s “Alice in Wonderland”. Can’t get enough of Alice and The Mad Hatter? Pick up one or both of these.
“Alice” Blu-Ray Rating: 2.0/5.0

Caterina Scorsone is a charming lead as a twenty-something...

Alice (Anne-Marie Mallik) is spending the day with her sisters in the sunny fields. She appears to nap, but spies a Victorian gentleman White Rabbit (Wilfrid Brambell) and follows him into a tunnel. She finds herself in Wonderland, encountering the Duchess (Leo McKern), growing, shrinking, at a mad tea party with the Mad Hatter (Peter Cook), March Hare (Michael Gough) and Dormouse (Wilfred Lawson), poetry from the Caterpillar (Sir Michael...
