Guy Pearce has recently wrapped production on “Inside,” an Australian crime thriller and coming of age drama film. The picture is the debut feature of Charles Williams, whose short film “All These Creatures” won the Palme d’Or at the 2018 Cannes Film Festival.
The story sees after a young man transferred from juvenile to adult prison, where he is taken under the wing of both Australia’s most despised criminal, and a soon-to-be-a-paroled inmate. A paternal triangle grows between them, suggesting that even the worst of men may have a little bit of good inside them — that will be their eventual undoing.
The cast is headed by Pearce, Cosmo Jarvis and newcomer Vincent Miller. Supporting actors include Toby Wallace, Tara Morice, Chloé Hayden (“Heartbreak High”) and Michael Logo (“Colin From Accounts”).
“Inside” is being produced by Marian Macgowan for Macgowan Films and Kate Glover for Never Sleep Pictures, with Thomas M. Wright...

For three seasons, "The Great" has operated as one of the wildest, most debaucherous, and otherwise fantastic shows to emerge in the era of streaming. Created and overseen by "The Favourite" writer Tony McNamara, the series re-imagines a young Catherine the Great (played superbly by Elle Fanning) and her reign as the Empress of All Russia, taking immense liberties with history in whatever way it deems fit to serve its story. Alas, all things must eventually come to an end, even something as beautifully bizarre and outlandish as "The Great."
Coming off a stellar third season that proved the show has yet to miss a step, Hulu has sadly elected not to renew "The Great" for a fourth season. As Deadline observed while confirming the news, "It's unclear what made the streamer decide to cancel the comedy," given its almost-universally positive reviews and apparent popularity.

“The Great” is not returning for Season 4 on Hulu, Variety has confirmed.
The satirical take on Catherine The Great’s story painted the historical figure as “an idealistic, romantic young girl, who arrives in Russia for an arranged marriage to the mercurial Emperor Peter. Hoping for love and sunshine, she finds instead a dangerous, depraved, backward world that she resolves to change. All she has to do is kill her husband, beat the church, baffle the military and get the court onside,” according to the official description.
The series starred Elle Fanning as Catherine, Nicholas Hoult, Phoebe Fox, Adam Godley, Gwilym Lee, Charity Wakefield, Douglas Hodge, Sacha Dhawan, Sebastian de Souza, Bayo Gbadamosi and Belinda Bromilow.
Season 3, which was released on May 12, picked up with Catherine and Peter (Hoult) who agree to work on their marriage after Catherine previously had his friends imprisoned and attempted to murder him. The season...

Hulu has canceled its period dramedy The Great after three seasons.
The news comes some three-and-a-half months after the show’s third (and now final) season premiered as a binge release in May. The series stars Elle Fanning and Nicholas Hoult and explores the relationship of Russian Empress Catherine II and Emperor Peter III in the 18th century.
The show earned seven Emmy nominations over the course of its run, winning the award for outstanding period costumes last year. Fanning and Hoult also earned acting nominations in 2022, and series creator Tony McNamara and director Matt Shakman scored writing and directing nods for the series’ premiere episode in 2020.
The Great was also a critical favorite, earning nearly universally positive reviews across all three of its seasons. How many people watched it, however, remains a mystery as Hulu (like most other streamers) doesn’t share much viewing data and season three did...

“The Great” will not return for a fourth season at Hulu. The streaming service canceled the period drama after three critically acclaimed seasons.
The series was created, written and executive produced by “The Favourite” screenwriter Tony McNamara, and it starred Elle Fanning and Nicholas Hoult in a kooky tale about the life of Russian empress Catherine the Great.
The third season, which dropped all episodes on May 12, followed Catherine (Fanning) and her husband Peter (Hoult) as they worked on their relationship following her staged coup to take control of Russia. Thankfully, the Season 3 finale provided some closure to Catherine’s story, as it featured her growing into her role as leader while grieving a major loss.
The reasons for the cancellation are unclear, given the show’s garnered strong fan response as well as seven Emmy nominations since debuting in 2020. The drama won the Emmy for Outstanding Period Costumes in...

Exclusive: Ok, this one hurts. Hulu has canceled fan favorite The Great after three seasons.
The series starred Elle Fanning and Nicholas Hoult. It depicted an iconic character and her place in history through a unique prism.
The third season dropped May 12 and revolved around Catherine (Fanning) and Nicholas (Hoult) working on their marriage.

Catherine and Peter are going to try and work this out.
On Wednesday, Hulu released the first trailer for Season 3 of “The Great,” which shows its lead couple (played by 2022 Emmy nominees Elle Fanning and Nicholas Hoult) attempting a royal version of couples’ therapy. It doesn’t seem all that promising. Here’s the official logline provided by Hulu:
Season 3 of “The Great” sees Catherine (Elle Fanning) and Peter (Nicholas Hoult) attempt to make their marriage work after some seemingly insurmountable problems. Peter witnessed his own attempted murder at Catherine’s hands and she also imprisoned all of his friends. On top of this, Peter is at a loose end playing First Husband to Catherine’s reign, so he busies himself with fathering, hunting and salty culinary ventures. But they’re not enough to keep him contented as visions of his late father (played by Jason Isaacs), get in his...

Catherine and Peter attempt to figure out a way to move forward after the events of season two in the trailer for Hulu’s The Great season three. Can Catherine actually put into effect changes that will improve the lives of the peasants? Will Catherine and Peter ever be able to trust each other? Since The Great‘s only very loosely based on actual events, we’ll have to wait until season three arrives for the answers to those questions.
Elle Fanning stars as Catherine and Nicholas Hoult returns as Peter. Catherine the Great and Peter III of Russia are doing all they can to make it work before they call it quits.
Hulu released a trailer for the newest installation of “The Great,” the satirical series that follows Catherine’s (Elle Fanning) rise to power. After she imprisoned Peter’s (Nicholas Hoult) friends and attempted to murder him in Season 2, Season 3 sees them try to improve their marriage.
The trailer opens with Catherine and Peter seated beside each other, confessing to the problems in their relationship.
“There was some bloodshed,” Catherine says. “She tried to kill me,” Peter responds. “I did,” Catherine admits, before asking, “How can we trust each other?”
A woman sitting across from them says, simply, “Faith.”
“Annoying answer,” Catherine retorts. “Agreed,” says Peter.
Season 3 also follows Catherine’s struggle to win the favor of the Russian people — who make something of a voodoo doll to spite her,...

We have some good news for fans of two of Hulu's best comedy series.
The streamer has officially picked up a third season of The Great.
Ten new episodes have been ordered.
In season two of The Great, Catherine (Elle Fanning) finally takes the Russian throne for her own - but if she thought coup-ing her husband was difficult, it's nothing compared to the realities of 'liberating' a country that doesn't want to be.
She'll battle her court, her team, even her own mother in a bid to bring the enlightenment to Russia.
With only occasional historical facts, the series stars Fanning, Nicholas Hoult, Phoebe Fox, Adam Godley, Gwilym Lee, Charity Wakefield, Douglas Hodge, Sacha Dhawan, Bayo Gbadamosi and Belinda Bromilow.

Get ready for the second season of The Great, baby.
We're weeks away from the Nov. 19 due date of the latest season of Hulu's period comedy. Ahead of its arrival, series star and executive producer Elle Fanning, who plays the titular Russian empress Catherine the Great, shared some details when she joined costar/executive producer Nicholas Hoult, executive producer Marian Macgowan, and creator Tony McNamara in the show's virtual Television Critics Association summer press tour.
The second season picks up soon after season one's bloody finale, when a newly pregnant Catherine unleashes a coup d'état to overthrow her husband, Peter III (Hoult) - even if it means sacrificing the lives and safety of people she loves. In the new season, Catherine's baby bump is growing and Peter's hold over the castle is shrinking. But that hasn't stopped her plotting or his revelry.

On Friday, the creators and stars of The Great stopped by TCA to tease the second season of their acclaimed Hulu comedy, which is set to premiere on November 19.
Creator, writer and EP Tony McNamara, EP Marian Macgowan, and EP-actor Nicholas Hoult were joined on the panel by EP-actor Elle Fanning, who touched on a “parental theme” running through the season, with regard to her character, Catherine the Great.
“Catherine [is] grappling with the fact that she’s going to become a mother soon,” said Fanning. “The baby is also kind of her protection because she knows while [he’s] in there she’s safe, and Peter’s not going to kill her.”
Hoult noted that for at least part of Season 2, his character Peter III is “in imprisonment and confinement.” The overthrown Russian Emperor will deal with the situation by “trying to better himself,” attempting to learn the French language, among other new skills.

The lines between history and fiction are blurred in Hulu’s The Great, but it makes for sharp storytelling that contains the spirit of farce and mixes comedic and dramatic moments. Creator, writer and executive producer Tony McNamara, executive producer Marian Macgowan and co-stars Elle Fanning and Nicholas Hoult came to TCA winter press tour to talk about how the comedy series came together.
McNamara said he’s not really a fan of period pieces, even though he’s written two of them in The Favourite and The Great. He originally wrote The Great for the stage and it was produced for the theater, where he said he learned what worked comedically and what didn’t, “If you have a live audience, you know if you’ve succeeded or failed with comedy,” McNamara said. He wanted to write a twist on the genre that he’d want to watch and...

Here’s “The Great” creator Tony McNamara on his upcoming Catherine the Great-focused comedy:
“On one level, she’s Catherine the Great, who marries [the son of] Peter the Great, and that’s a big story,” McNamara said during the series’ Television Critics Association panel. “On another level that’s quite contemporary, it’s about a woman who marries the wrong person and then has to go, ‘What do I do? Do I kill him?’”
The joke scored plenty of laughs at the TCA 2020 Winter Press Tour in Pasadena Friday morning, but also serves as an apt descriptor of the Hulu series, which premieres May 15. McNamara was joined by series Executive Producer Marian MacGowan and series stars Elle Fanning and Nicholas Hoult to discuss the show, which will offer a comedic take on Catherine the Great’s (Fanning) rise to power in the late 1700s and detail her relationship with her husband Peter (Hoult), the emperor of Russia.
