- Henry Lytton, the English singer and actor, was to Gilbert & Sullivan what John Gielgud was to Shakespeare, only more so. The baritone joined the famous D'Oyly Carte Opera Company that staged Gilbert & Sullivan operettas in 1884 and remained with them until 1903. With return engagements with the company between 1906 and 1934, he was associated with them for 50 years.
