Last night the Top 16 took the stage and almost universally disappointed. As Nigel promised, weaknesses were certainly shown last night, and tonight two dancers will be sent home because of them. It's the first time America has had a chance to vote, so it should be interesting to see who ends up in the bottom tonight. Will it be based on popularity or performance? At least one of the couples who America didn't care for disappoints Nigel Lythgoe.
Watch along with me tonight as we learn who America loves and who America just likes. I'll be live thoughting the results show right here and in 140 characters or less on Twitter. »

Maybe that little petition did some good folks, because according to his latest tweet So You Think You Can Dance executive producer and head judge Nigel Lythgoe is listening when it comes to complaints about the new, gigantic, dwarfing, neon hell that is the new stage. However, he's not listening to your complaints about who gets kicked off tonight if you didn't vote.
Read all about it in 140 characters or less from Nigel himself: »

Finally. For the first time in what has already been a two month long season 6, America finally gets a say in the quest to choose their favorite dancer. Without a doubt, this is a game changer. Judges favorites are not necessarily fan favorites and vice-versa. While we have an inkling of an idea who is popular based on your comments, tweets, and votes; we we also know that some of those favorites stumbled in a major way last night. So, it is safe to say who will stay and who will go tonight, seems a bit of a toss up.
Will popularity or performance prevail? We're not sure, but you've given us some hints based on how you voted in last night's polls and who you've picked for elimination for Fantasy TV. Plus, Mr. Nigel Lythgoe weighs in about tonight's results and who ends up in the bottom. »

The 'So You Think You Can Dance' Tour is well underway, with just a handful of West Coast cities to go before the last show on Nov. 21 in Everett, Washington. One organization benefitting from the tour is the Dizzy Feet Foundation, which the tour has been actively "pimping" through a major fund-raiser. The Dizzy Feet Foundation Web site explains itself in this way: Dizzy Feet Foundation founded in 2009 by producer Nigel Lythgoe, director Adam Shankman, "Dancing with the Stars" judge Carrie Ann Inaba and actress Katie Holmes to help underprivileged young people realize their dream of becoming professional dancers and to support, improve, and increase access to dance education in the Unites States. After two weeks of judges' choice, America finally gets to vote for their favorite dancers on So You Think You Can Dance tonight. While we are all eager to finally have a say in a competition that claims to be about finding America's favorite (not the judges) dancer, head judge Nigel Lythgoe sounds a wee bit trepidatious about sharing the decision with the voting public.
Nigel took to his Twitter this morning to talk about America voting, saying "hopefully it helps us." He also says "weaknesses" were shown this week, which makes me eager to see what untouchable golden dancer goofs tonight. He says the results should be interesting, but I think he really means "terrifying for one of my personal favorites." But don't take my recounting of the Tweet, see if for yourself. »

Jenna Dewan-Tatum tweeted yesterday that she would be both presenting and performing with "So You Think You Can Dance" dancers and more at the upcoming Dizzy Feet Foundation benefit, and today, she announced that Chan would also be presenting with her.
Dizzy Feet Foundation was founded in 2009 by producer Nigel Lythgoe, director Adam Shankman, "Dancing with the Stars" judge Carrie Ann Inaba and actress Katie Holmes to help underprivileged young people realize their dream of becoming professional dancers and to support, improve, and increase access to dance education in the Unites States.
Guided by a board consisting of some of the most illustrious names in the American dance community, the foundation's mission is threefold: (1) to provide scholarships to talented students studying at accredited dance schools, studios, or institutions; (2) to establish national standards for dance education and an accreditation program for dance schools in all of the major styles of dance; and (3) to develop, »

Billy Bell, who was sidelined from So You Think You Can Dance due to a mysterious, potentially deadly illness, will return to the competition next season, although not in the top 20. Instead, Nigel Lythgoe explained last night that the show's producers and Fox "have agreed that Billy Bell can join the competition at the top 100 in Vegas next season, and they've also agreed that Brandon can re-apply for this show. I think that's »

It was a tough night for the tappers on So You Think You Can Dance. Both Bianca Revels and Phillip Attmore were sent home, but we caught up with the judges backstage and learned it didn't have to be that way. In fact, Bianca's fate wasn't sealed until the final minutes of tonight's episode, when two judges outvoted the third and sent home Bianca, saving Noelle Marsh to dance another day. What made the difference? Here's what we learned... Judge Nigel Lythgoe wanted to save Bianca, but it didn't go his way: "I didn't want to lose two tappers tonight, but we decided it was Phillip [going home for the guys] early on. I think we were unanimous on that tonight, and then we had to... »

Nigel Lythgoe, Chief Executive Producer and Permanent Judge of So You Think You Can Dance, never tries to hide his feelings.
When dismissing someone from the show that he believes hasn't risen to the challenge of the competition the same way the other competitors have, he's compassionate. He offers advice. He tries to help them understand what kind of dancer they are and why they're being let go. But when he's out-voted, he's short and dismissive, as if the act of removing this person from the competition pains him so much that he just wants to distance himself from the moment as quickly as possible.
This has never been more apparent than tonight, when he had the unenviable duty of notifying Bianca Revels and Phillip Attmore that they had been voted off the show. He let Bianca down gracefully, taking his time with her and Noelle (who had joined Bianca »

Last week, I swear you could hear a collective gasp across America when krumper and pre-season favorite Russell Ferguson was announced as one of the bottom four dancers. That collective gasp was followed by much head scratching and at least a few WTFs?!?
It was clear that Russell would not be eliminated in week one, which left many people postulating that he was placed in the bottom four solely for dramatic effect or to energize his fans into voting. (When voting is allowed.) Not so, says Nigel Lythgoe. The So You Think You Can Dance head judge took to his Twitter to explain why the judges put Russell in the bottom four, saying the krumper simply wasn't good enough in his foxtrot. »

During last week's So You Think You Can Dance Top 20 performances, we only saw 19 contestants perform. Contemporary dancer Noelle Marsh was allowed to sit out the performance show because of a knee injury. It seemed slightly unfair to me that Noelle was given a bye, while a dancer who had put it all out on stage was eliminated. And it wasn't just me, when asked nearly 60% of you said it wasn't fair that Noelle was allowed to continue in the competition after not dancing last week.
Not so says Nigel Lythgoe, who in spite of invoking fairness during Brandon Dumlao's elimination, insists that Noelle's situation is just following the rules of So You Think You Can Dance. Nigel took to Twitter early Halloween morning to defend the shows decision to give Noelle a free pass, saying that "the rule is 'if advised by a Dr. not to dance, you get 1 weeks grace. »

It would seem for season 6, the previous So You Think You Can Dance Twitter ban has been lifted on contestants, because the remaining Top 18 dancers continue tweeting up a storm. While this Monday has seen updates from Legacy (offering Monday advice), Mollee Gray (who wants to have some fun) and Pauline Mata (who is enjoying the sunshine), the most interesting 140 characters came from Noelle Marsh.
As we all know, Noelle sat out the Top 20 performance show with a knee injury. Nigel Lythgoe and company were gracious enough to give Noelle a bye for week one (much to the chagrin of the eliminated Ariana DeBose) to wait for Mri results and see if her knee would heal. Based on her most recent Tweet and my incredible power of deduction, I would venture that Noelle will be dancing on this week's So You Think You Can Dance Top 18 performance show. »

Paula Abdul has revealed that she finds Nigel Lythgoe's offer to appear on So You Think You Can Dance "intriguing". Paula Abdul told EW.com exclusively that while "it is an intriguing offer," she has yet to grant Nigel Lythgoe's request that she join the judging panel of So You Think You Can Dance. During Monday's telecast of the dance show, Lythgoe officially offered the former American Idol judge a guest spot on the panel. "I haven’t made any decisions about what I want to do next," Abdul said while walking the red carpet of last night's This Is It premiere in Los Angeles. "I might need a break from judging for awhile. Looks like all the teasing we've seen from the So You Think You Can Dance judges this week is working... well, not really.

"I haven't made any decisions about what I want to do next," she said. "I might need a break from judging for a while. But you never know. Dance was my first passion." »

After replacing Billy Bell and spending a day and a half in the top 20, Brandon Dumlao was eliminated (instead of Russell Ferguson) by the judges in a pretty obvious but still mean decision. Also out: Ariana Debose (over Pauline Mata) because of her lack of charisma. Nigel Lythgoe said the judges eliminated the first two based on everything they've seen this season, not just the one dance that Brandon had just a day and »

What up Doc!! First and foremost -- Wow, what a great night to be a fan of dance! A very strong opening show indeed. The lighting and space of the new stage also worked a lot better than I thought they would, allowing the dancers to really get into every performance. I'm very proud of the hip-hoppers for committing to whatever style they were given. Russell reminds me of Joshua Allen in a way -- no matter what he has been given so far, every step of the way, he has given 100 percent commitment. The passion he showed in his solo was amazing. I love Adam Shankman as a judge; he’s very informative and personable and one of my favorite people in the industry. I also love what Adam said about Jakob Karr: "God put him here to spread the gospel of dance.” A powerful statement, and a testament to Jakob’s amazing ability. »
