So far, 2017 has not been kind to long-delayed horror releases. Remember The Bye Bye Man? What a dreadful way to kickstart another year of screams. Surely no other genre equivalent could dethrone such a paltry paranormal effort, right? You’d have to be a tone-deaf, spookless, convoluted bore to challenge the dumpster-fire we call The Bye Bye Man.
Enter F. Javier Gutiérrez’s Rings.
I wasn’t prepared for just How misguided a sequel Rings would end up being. “Maybe the four different rescheduled premiere dates were strategic,” I thought, “and not telling of Paramount’s inability to salvage Samara’s name.” What a blissfully ignorant life I led right before that famous VHS static kicked in, and my basement-level expectations were shattered by horrendous franchise misdealings.
Gutiérrez opens with a midair disaster à la Final Destination, brought on by some random “bro” who stinks of distress. “It helps to talk,...

The cursed videotape returns in the belated horror sequel, Rings. Here's our review of a bewitchingly terrible film...
Jean-Luc Godard once said something to the effect that a story needs a beginning, middle and an end, but not necessarily in that order. Rings doesn't really have much of a story, but it does have three beginnings, so it must be really, really good. Right?

It's nearly 20 years since Sadako first started menacing screens of varying sizes in the original Ring, Hideo Nakata's collision of traditional Japanese ghost tale and modern urban culture. It was a film that kicked off a western interest in all things J-horror, spawned a series of Japanese prequels and sequels, and an inevitable American remake, directed by Gore Verbinski in 2002. Samara will be back to kill more people in her latest sequel Rings. We have a new poster featuring the character giving everything she's got to look as terrifying as possible. The thing is... we've seen it all before. People watch her amateur film school art project, and it's so bad that seven days later they die.
Don't get me wrong, I love this horror franchise, and the first film was freakin' great! I just don't think this new sequel is going to give us anything different from what we've already seen, except this one will use technology beyond VHS tapes.
Oh yeah! There's also going to be a new trailer coming this week!
A new chapter in the beloved Ring horror franchise. A young woman becomes worried about her boyfriend when he explores a dark subculture surrounding a mysterious videotape said to kill the watcher seven days after he has viewed it.

I actually really enjoyed The Ring horror franchise, and I'm kinda excited for the upcoming sequel Rings. Paramount Pictures has released a couple new full trailers for the film, and as a fan of the first two movies, this sequel looks nice and creepy.
The movie was directed by F. Javier Gutierrez (Before the Fall) from a script that was written by David Loucka, Jacob Estes, and Akiva Goldsman. The movie stars Matilda Lutz and Alex Roe. They are the latest victims of Samara who has made some technological upgrades.
No one is watching VHS tapes these days, so how is Samara spreading her evil video around the world that will kill you in seven days if you watch it? It's all digital now. The sequel doesn't look like it will be as good as the original film, but it should still end up being a fun flick.

In his day job at The Big Bang Theory, the only scary issues Johnny Galecki’s Leonard usually have to deal with are his roommate’s overbearing attitude to everything and possibly his own sinuses. But the actor will be dealing with much more terrifying events as he’s signed on to co-star in Rings. The film represents Paramount’s attempts to breathe fresh life into the J-horror-spawned franchise, which has been quiet of late. The plot will reportedly find Galecki’s charismatic, hard-living professor Gabriel mentoring younger couple Holt (Alex Roe) and Julia (Matilda Lutz). We’d expect them all to somehow come into contact with the cursed videotape in a story that takes place 13 years after the original American Ring. F. Javier Gutiérrez is directing this one, working from a script by David Loucka, Jacob Aaron Estes and Akiva Goldsman, with shooting already underway ready for a November 13 release in the States.

Switching out geek-centric chatter for far more terrifying subject matter, The Big Bang Theory‘s Johnny Galecki is the latest in a line of recent additions to board Paramount’s horror sequel Rings.
Originally, the film was mistakenly described as a prequel; a matter which director F. Javier Gutierrez soon cleared up. With that matter taken care of, it’s since been explained that the third entry in the studio’s J-horror remake trilogy is actually set after The Ring Two.
In Gutierrez’s long-gestating sequel, penned by David Loucka, Jacob Aaron Estes, and Akiva Goldsman, the story picks up 13 years after the events of the last outing. This time, a new roster of people unable to grasp the simple concept of the cursed videotape are bound for grisly, watery deaths. Samara now has one more reason to emerge from her well. Another lead role has been cast for Rings, the sequel to the 2002 remake, The Ring, adding one more potential victim of the cursed tape to the film's ranks.
Deadline reports that Alex Roe (The 5th Wave, Sniper: Legacy) has been cast as the male lead opposite Matilda Lutz in director F. Javier Gutiérrez's Rings. Roe will play "the boyfriend to Lutz’s character", who "becomes distant from her after watching the tape."
Rings, scheduled to come out in 3D, will explore the origin story of Samara. It’s a fate worse than any Blockbuster late fee from back in the day: if you watch the tape, you die one week later at the hands of Samara Morgan, the black-haired ghost girl who needs no help getting out of the well she calls home. Though the 2002 American remake of 1998's Ringu unveiled some of Samara's backstory (in addition to the 2005 sequel, The Ring Two), there's still much more to explore about the adopted girl in the well, and Paramount is looking to to shed light on the murky horrors of Samara's past with Rings, the upcoming third entry in The Ring remake franchise that's slated for release late this year. Pre-production on the movie recently kicked off in Atlanta, and director F. Javier Gutiérrez shared some photos that give us new glimpses of the black-haired terror from the TV screen and much more.

Last fall brought news of another film in The Ring franchise, and then a report from earlier this year revealed that film would be called Rings, and it would actually be a reboot of the horror series. Italian actress Matilda Lutz was tapped to lead the film, but that's all we knew at the time. Now some more details have surfaced from Bloody Disgusting indicating that this will actually be a prequel to the original 2002 film starring Naomi Watts that will take place years before the creation of the tape that kills anyone seven days after watching it. The report says the story will "tell the origin of Samara’s reign of terror.” Even though both The Ring and The Ring Two gave us some insight into the origins of Samara, apparently there's still much more of that origin to be revealed, thus making the myth of the tape and...

Earlier this year came the news that Paramount Pictures was moving forward with another chapter in "The Ring" franchise called "Rings". This would feature an all new cast but be tied to the continuity of the 2002 film and its 2005 sequel.
Today, Bloody-Disgusting says the film is actually a prequel and will be set several years before the events in the 2002 film. Naomi Watts starred in the first as a woman trying to uncover the truth about a mysterious VHS video tape, one that anyone who watches it dies seven days later.
"Rings" will explore how the tape was created and delve into Samara's origins. Casting is now underway and F. Javier Gutierrez ("Before the Fall") will direct from a screenplay by Akiva Goldsman, Jacob Aaron Estes and David Loucka.

Pining for those long summer days and blood-splattered nights at Camp Crystal Lake? Looking forward to the next found footage entry in the Paranormal Activity franchise? If so, you’ll have to wait longer than expected, as Paramount Pictures has delayed the release of their new Friday the 13th movie and Paranormal Activity: The Ghost Dimension, while also slating Rings, the next installment in The Ring franchise, to hit theaters on one of the vacated dates.
Deadline reports that the new Friday the 13th movie, which last May was rescheduled to come out this November 13th, has now been pushed back to a May 13th, 2016 release.
Casting and plot details for the next installment in the Friday the 13th franchise are still unknown, but David Bruckner (V/H/S, The Signal) is still expected to direct, with Platinum Dunes’ Brad Fuller and Andrew Form producing.

Paramount has three notable horror films on the horizon and one of them is a direct sequel, another is a reboot and yet another is a "something like a sequel" and all three are being shuffled around the release board. First off, Paranormal Activity: The Ghost Dimension was previously scheduled for a March 13 release, but will now open on October 23, returning the franchise to its successful Halloween roots. Next is Rings, the third film in The Ring franchise with F. Javier Gutierrez directing after he was supposed to direct the remake of The Crow, which he is no longer attached to and seems to have pretty much fallen to pieces. Rings will hit theaters on November 13 of this year. amz asin="1932234411" size="small"No details on the plot for Rings, at least none specifically though Samara is expected to return as is the fateful videotape (I think it's going to be a prequel). The divorce between Paramount and DreamWorks meant that rights issues stalled any further Us Ring movies after The Ring Two. For a while there was talk of a Ring 3D, but that project has now morphed into something called Rings, which is sounding like more of a reboot than a threequel. Whatever its direction, it at least now has a star. Relative newcomer Matilda Lutz has signed up for the ordeal.Last we heard, F. Javier Gutiérrez (Before The Fall) was directing, and Akiva Goldsman was writing a new draft of the screenplay begun by David Loucka. Nothing is yet known about the storyline, but we can perhaps surmise that Lutz will be the recipient of a videotape (or perhaps some sort of updated media) that puts her on the receiving end of a haunting by well-dwelling yūrie ghoul Samara (the American version of Sadako). Word on the street is...

Little-known Italian actress Matilda Lutz ("The Fifth Wheel," "Someone Beautiful") is set to play the female lead in "Rings," the sequel/restart of the "The Ring" franchise.
It hasn't been confirmed. but it's expected this will keep the continuity of events in 2002's "The Ring" and 2005's "The Ring Two" rather than reboot the franchise. However, it will feature a brand new cast with Naomi Watts not expected to return.
The story is said to still feature the tormented Samara and a deadly videotape, but no further specifics have been released including details of Matilda Lutz's character.
F. Javier Gutierrez has signed on to direct the project which David Loucka, Jacob Aaron Estes and Akiva Goldsman have worked on. Walter F. Parkes and Laurie MacDonald are producing.

It’s a fate worse than any Blockbuster late fee from back in the day: if you watch the tape, you die one week later at the hands of Samara Morgan, the black-haired ghost girl who needs no help getting out of the well she calls home. Last July, it was revealed that F. Javier Gutiérrez will direct the next Ring movie (referred to then as The Ring 3) from Paramount Pictures, and now the film’s new, official name and first cast member have been revealed.
TheWrap reports that Paramount’s upcoming Ring movie is titled Rings and will star Matilda Lutz in the lead role. A reboot of sorts due to the fact that Naomi Watts (who starred in 2002’s The Ring and 2005’s The Ring Two as Rachel Keller) will not return for this next installment, Rings will see Samara once again serving as the eerie antagonist...

Earlier this summer we told you Paramount Pictures was getting serious about The Ring 3, having selected a director for the long-awaited horror sequel. But now this possible-completion to the chilling trilogy just got a bit more interesting with the announcement of a new screenwriter. For better or worse. You tell us. In July, Paramount revealed Spanish helmer F. Javier Gutierrez had been chosen to direct The Ring 3, but it was unclear if the studio had a script in place. Deadline reports Paramount has entered into negotiations with Academy Award-winning screenwriter Akiva Goldsman. Should he sign on, the scribe behind the critically heralded biopic A Beautiful Mind and the unheralded 1997 franchise killer Batman & Robin, would be the third screenwriter to touch The Ring 3. Inspiration for the threequel was found in Koji Suzuki's novels. From there, Paramount had picked David Loucka, writer of the equally abysmal The House...

Last month we learned that Paramount Pictures is working on a third installment in The Ring's American franchise, which is now being titled The Ring 3D. In addition to the title and dimensional change, a new writer has come on board, so read on for the latest!
Deadline reports that Oscar winner Akiva Goldsman is in talks to pen a new draft of the second sequel's screenplay, working off an existing script by David Loucka. F. Javier Gutierrez was previously announced as the project's director.
Goldman's previous writing credits include I Am Legend, Batman & Robin and I, Robot; and he also executive produced the first three sequels in the Paranormal Activity franchise.
Based on a Japanese cult success, the first U.S. film went on to gross $249 million at the worldwide box office. That was enough to justify a sequel, which didn’t match the first one’s B.

The Ring 3D
Paramount is in talks with Akiva Goldsman ("A Beautiful Mind") to pen the next draft of "The Ring 3D," the third chapter in the horror franchise. Goldsman recently did a rewrite of "Insurgent," the upcoming sequel to "Divergent". He would take over from David Loucka who penned the earlier draft of the F. Javier Gutierrez-directed sequel in which the infamous video tape strikes terror yet again.
Chaos Walking: The Knife of Never Letting Go
Jamie Linden ("We Are Marshall," "Dear John") is set to pen the screenplay for Lionsgate's potential franchise starter "Chaos Walking: The Knife of Never Letting Go" based on the 2008 Patrick Ness novel. His directing career may have taken a serious blow with the travesty that was Winter’s Tale, but Akiva Goldsman is still killing it in Hollywood as a writer and producer. He recently did a rewrite of the next Divergent film, titled Insurgent, and upcoming projects that he’s producing include Guy Ritchie’s King Arthur series starter and a planned follow-up to I Am Legend. Now, it appears that Goldsman is going back to the horror genre (he exec-produced the first three Paranormal Activity entries) for his next gig – rewriting Paramount’s The Ring 3D.
Like the first two films, The Ring 3D will find Samara returning to strike terror into the hearts of many with her haunted video tape. F. Javier Gutiérrez, the Spanish filmmaker behind Before the Fall, is set to direct. If he strikes a deal with Paramount, Goldsman will be rewriting a script originally by David Loucka (Dream House,...

It’s been nearly a decade since the last trip to the well with The Ring 2, the second American film adapted from the 1998 Japanese horror. House At The End Of The Street
Stars: Jennifer Lawrence, Elisabeth Shue, Max Thieriot | Written by David Loucka | Directed by Mark Tonderai
Mix together one of the hottest actresses of the Eighties, one of the hottest actresses right now, add a British bit-part actor turned director, blend them all together with a kid-friendly script and you have House at the End of the Street. The film tells the story of a mother, Sarah (Shue), and daughter Elissa (Lawrence), who move to a new town and find themselves living next door to a house where a young girl murdered her parents. Locals claim that the girl mysteriously vanished after the incident, but as Elissa becomes close to the girls brother, Ryan, (Thieriot) she learns that a dark and terrible secret still lurks within those walls and this sinister story of murder is far from over.
Ok, so I’ll keep this short.

Chicago – Mark Tonderai’s “House at the End of the Street” is not to be confused with this year’s “The House Across the Street” or either version of “Last House on the Left.” What Tonderai hopes you mistake it for is a classy Hitchcockian homage evocative of the Master’s most shocking and immortal picture, 1960’s “Psycho.”
That’s exactly what the creatively starved mainstream multiplexes need: another uninspired rehash of “Psycho.” Imagine if Marion Crane grew bored with her horndog beau Sam and became attracted to sensitive, soft-spoken Norman Bates. Imagine if Norman spent time finding faces in the bark of trees with the same odd mixture of thoughtfulness and whimsy that Ricky Fitts exuded while watching footage of a floating bag in “American Beauty.”
Blu-ray Rating: 0.5/5.0
Yes, dear readers, this is a touchy-feely variation on “Psycho,” with blonde soon-to-be-victimized Elissa falling for the blatantly unhinged nutcase next door.

There are flashes of characterization, wit, and warmth in House at the End of the Street, making you hope it is a cut above your modern day horror film. The movie largely focuses on the mother and daughter tandem of Sarah (Elisabeth Shue) and Elissa (Jennifer Lawrence), as they struggle to start fresh in a town after divorce. They can only afford to rent such a nice house because it is situated near the home where a young girl murdered her parents so is tainted. Of course, right there, you know the daughter is still around. Then we learn the son, who had been living with relatives when the heinous act occurred, had moved back in. And we’re off.

Director: Mark Tonderai. Writers: David Loucka and Jonathan Mostow. Cast: Jennifer Lawrence, Max Thieriot, Elisabeth Shue, Gil Bellows, Nolan Gerard Funk, Eva Link and Allie MacDonald. House at the End of the Street is a mediocre thriller that was released in theatres September 23rd. The film received a solid welcome, but this reviewer is not sure why. This PG-13 horror film lacks tension, conflict, and any meaningful terror. Instead, House at the End of the Street feels like a horror film with training wheels. The film is too safe and mostly predictable. The film's story involves a mother and daughter duo. Elisabeth Shue plays Sarah, the overprotective mother. Meanwhile, Elissa is the rebellious daughter played by Jennifer Lawrence. These two characters move next door to the "murder house." Their neighbour, Ryan (Max Thieriot), is the only survivor of a double murder orchestrated by his sister, Carrie Anne. Ryan's parents were...

Jennifer Lawrence does her best with a dull and derivative script in this by-the-numbers suburban shocker
Before The Hunger Games made Jennifer Lawrence hot property in Hollywood, she shot this low-budget horror film in 2010. It has been released without much fanfare, presumably to limit the damage to her CV. The generic title suggests either a risible reboot (The Last House on the Left) or a smart subversion of the genre (The Cabin in the Woods). Instead, we get a by-the-numbers bore so bad its makers chose to insulate it from preview screenings (fittingly, the film's Twitter hashtag is #Hates).
Following her parents' divorce, Elissa (Lawrence) moves to a leafy suburb with her mother (Elisabeth Shue). They find themselves living next door to a house in which a young girl murdered her parents four years earlier. The girl disappeared, but her body was never found. Now her brother, Ryan (Max Thieriot), is living there.

First House on the Right: Tonderai’s B Flick a Better Than Average Throwback
The biggest surprise you’ll have in store for you watching Mark Tonderai’s sophomore effort House at the End of the Street is that it’s markedly better than the bland marketing campaign would have you believe (not to mention that delayed release date of five months). But utilizing two actresses that are better than this material, a decently written narrative, and, for the most part, expecting his audience (if not all the characters) to be slightly intelligent, you might be in for a weird little surprise at the mainstream multiplex. That said, there’s a tinge too many clichéd moments that should have been brushed up, excised or smoothed over to make this an extraordinary feature. Nevertheless, in a world where genre thrills are relatively few and far between, this one is worth a look.

If the 2012 suspense thriller House at the End of the Street has nothing else going for it, it’s the fact that it contains a truly unique script by David Loucka (based on a story by Jonathan Mostow) with a plot twist at the end which nobody could have possibly seen coming. That said, chances are more than likely that this flick won’t exactly be making cinematic history anytime soon. It’s never an unpleasant nor painful viewing experience, but neither does it possess an “oooh-wow-i’ve-got-to-see-this-again!” moment in any of its over one hundred minutes of screen time.

House At The End Of The Street is directed by Mark Tonderai, his first theatrically released film, and is obviously plagued by all the mistakes of a beginning filmmaker who has watched a lot of horror movies but hasn’t figured out the key ingredients in making a good one. It was written by David Loucka, who also wrote Dream House which is about a family who moves into a house where murders took place.
The beginning of the film depicts the killing of the Jacobson parents by their young daughter, Carrie Anne, which does get the picture off to a chilling start. However, as the present-day story gets going, sorry attempts at jump scares are tossed in out of fear that viewers won’t be able to sit still for any kind of build. For reasons unknown, Elissa (Jennifer Lawrence) and her mom Sarah (Elizabeth Shue) had to leave...

House at the End of the Street is a thoroughly awful and unpleasant horror film, one that attempts to affect its unlucky audience by trading in abuse, sadism, and general human misery. It bears neither a hint of intelligence nor a smattering of subtext to justify its ugly, cynical nature, while the horrendous script, amateurish production, and wildly unappealing characters prevent any single moment from shining through as entertaining. At its very best, the film is tolerable. At its worst, it is offensive, a nasty experience that brutalizes the audience without an ounce of substance.

Chicago – “House at the End of the Street” is the kind of bland, mediocre thriller that’s tough to review in the sense that it’s difficult to put a shoulder shrug into words. How can I turn “meh” into a full review? In all seriousness, actress Jennifer Lawrence does her best to elevate this dull material but she can’t save a stupid script and direction that thinks turning a thriller into a 1990s music video is the way to add honest scares.
