Dan Lauria will play former Speaker of the House Thomas “Tip” O’Neill in the upcoming biopic Reagan.
He’ll play opposite Dennis Quaid, who plays the 40th president.
Dan Lauria as Tip O’Neill
In a statement, director Sean McNamara said, “He and Dennis have the chemistry needed to portray Reagan and O’Neill as two politicians who were respectful adversaries.”
In Washington, the 1980s friendship between Reagan and O’Neill has long been viewed as a contrast to recent decades, as partisan rifts have gotten more personal.
Others in the case include Penelope Ann Miller as Nancy Reagan, Mena Suvari as Jane Wyman, Kevin Dillon as Jack Warner and Jon Voight as a fictional Kgb agent who tracks Reagan over the course of 40 years. Howard Klausner and Jonas McCord wrote the script.
Reagan is scheduled for a 2023 release, with shooting already completed.

Will Tom Brady bring home the Vince Lombardi trophy once again? An Australian cattle dog named Yowie from Pittsburgh just might just have the answer to that question.
The pup’s owner, moviemaker Jeffrey Smee, says that his 10-year-old rescue dog has correctly predicted every winner of each NFL playoff game this season, and there’s photographic evidence on YouTube to prove it.
In the clips, Yowie stands on astroturf with two NFL team flags and bowls placed before her.

For hardcore football fans, the Super Bowl is a huge deal. It's the biggest game of the year, where- in theory- the two very best teams in the entire NFL face off for the Vince Lombardi Trophy. For more casual fans, though, the true entertainment on Super Bowl Sunday comes in the form of clever commercials and a spectacular halftime concert. Last year's Super Bowl had several highlights, but one of them actually came in the form of Lady Gaga's stirring rendition of the National Anthem. For Super Bowl 51, Gaga will be back, but this time as the headliner for the big halftime show.
The singer, and sometimes actress, took to twitter to officially announce that Super Bowl 51 is going Gaga.

“I miss my dear friend Budd Schulberg... We got along great, and I promised him that I would get our project Save Us, Joe Louis made and I will make good on that promise.” Words from director Spike Lee after screenwriter Schulberg's death in 2009. Lee had been working with Schulberg on a film about boxer Joe Louis when the writer passed away - a project that was announced some 9 years prior, and which Lee has never been able to make. Might today's news present that opportunity? In brief, the producing team behind recent sports-related Broadway shows - like "Lombardi," about the Green Bay Packers coach Vince Lombardi, and...

Pondering topics for a column, I indulged in a thought exercise of wish fulfillment: if I had the chance to time-travel to the greatest moments in sports, when and where would I go? Inevitably, thoughts of time travel take my mind to Doctor Who, and with the imminent return of the Doctor in only ten days, I imagined sports-related destinations for the Doctor. He would not necessarily guide the Tardis to my preferred events, but without a doubt he would visit those athletic events that had some measure of intergalactic peril in the mix. Thus, I give you the untold sporting adventures of Doctor Who.

How do you like your sports-themed movies? Heavy on the sport or just a side of sport with a heaping helping of feel-good story? Me… I’m not tellin’ though I’m sure there’s some conclusion that can be made after you’ve seen my list. First I wanna share a few stories that inspired me to put pen to paper type up my list. A long time ago Espn.com’s Bill Simmons started his list of the best 72 sports movies of the past 33 years, but the list is incomplete and I worry it may never be finished — come on Bill! Then there was the news we reported of the Vince Lombardi project starring Robert De Niro in the lead role which got the folks over at the Dallas Morning News asking who would play Tom Landry if when he is immortalized on the big screen. Finally the A.

Alfonso Cuarón, director of the fantastic Children of Men, Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban, and Y tu mamá también, is gearing up for his next film, Gravity, a space thriller written by his son, Jonás.
A couple of weeks ago, it was reported that Angelina Jolie had passed on Wanted 2 in order to join the project. She was reportedly slated to play the sole survivor of a space mission, as well as her own daughter. Later that week, however, it looked as if she was looking at The Golden Suicides, penned by Bret Easton Ellis. In that project, she and James Franco would play the real-life couple Theresa Duncan and Jeremy Blake, who killed themselves after becoming paranoid regarding Scientologist persecution.
So where does that leave Gravity? Now the project has found its way to Warner Bros. as a 3D production and Robert Downey, Jr. is in negotiations to take the lead.

I can already hear the talk radio guys boning themselves over this one. Vince Lombardi, the legendary coach of the Green Bay Packers, is one of the most iconic figures in sports history -- certainly so in football lore. Honestly, it's high time someone made a biopic about him (it will be produced by Espn Films). I'm a little excited about it -- Lombardi took over the Packers in 1959 and coached them to five championships in nine years. I'm excited because I love football movies, even though the gameplay is ridiculously over-dramatized -- every hit and tackle looks like, were it to happen in real life, it would literally disintegrate the other player, and every catch is the stuff of legend. But fuck it, I love 'em anyway. I also love movies set in that era -- it'll be full of men in trenchcoats and hats, which is badass.

Hollywood legend Robert De Niro is set to play distinguished football coach Vince Lombardi in a new feature film by Espn Films, Andell Entertainment, and the NFL. "Lombardi" will chronicle the Green Bay Packers coach's career as he led the transformation of the worst team of the NFL into a five-time champion.
The story, written by "The Curious Case of Benjamin Button" screenwriter Eric Roth, will begin from 1958 when Lombardi first became an NFL head coach and took over the Packers. It will also highlight the long-standing rivalry between the titular character and the Dallas Cowboys coach Tom Landry.
NFL VP of programming, Charles Coplin, said, "There are few actors who could accurately portray the fire, passion and grit of Lombardi. We're thrilled to have Robert De Niro on our team."
De Niro and Tribeca Productions partner Jane Rosenthal will produce alongside Chris Olsen. The film is slated for a 2012 release date.

The once great Robert De Niro is lining up two movies that will hopefully bring him back to acting brilliance.
Universal is gearing up another Midnight Run for the 66-year-old actor twenty two years after the original. De Niro will reprise his role as Jack Walsh, a bounty hunter tasked in the first with transporting an embezzler (played by Charles Grodin) across the country. Grodin retired from acting to become a journalist, so he won’t be back for the sequel, which is a shame because its their twosome that made it work.
This time De Niro will be given a “younger, comedic foil,” according to the Hollywood Reporter. I can only imagine a wise-cracking Shia Labeouf or a sassy sidekick like Tracy Morgan going for all the laughs. Tim Dowling is writing the screenplay.

Espn knows sports, but their record with sports films is a totally different matter. Beginning with 2002's A Season on the Brink, they've hardly delivered a credible sports film worthy of their place at the top of the sports-entertainment heap. Who can forget Tom Sizemore's ill-fitting Pete Rose wig in Hustle or Oliver Platt's oversized harrumphing in The Bronx is Burning? Yesterday, the network announced plans to tackle Vince Lombardi, the legendary Green Bay Packers football coach whose name now graces the Super Bowl trophy, and this time, the network is pulling no punches. For one, the film will be a theatrical release,...

Robert De Niro is headed to Espn. Unfortunately, he's not replacing Stuart Scott. De Niro will portray coach Vince Lombardi in a new bio-pic being produced by the network to air in January 2012, the weekend between the NFL conference championship games and the Super Bowl.
De Niro's Tribeca Productions will co-produce with the network as well as the NFL, and Eric Roth (Forrest Gump) will write the screenplay. Said De Niro's producing partner Jane Rosenthal, "“We’ve had an extraordinary relationship with Espn for five years through the Tribeca Film Festival, and now we’re able to extend that association into production."
The film will cover the glory years, Lombardi's years with the Green Bay Packers in which he won the first two Super Bowls and helped Green Bay become known as "Title Town," even though the city has only won one more championship in the 40-plus years since Lombardi left the sidelines.
