George L. Little, a top-notch costume designer who worked on the Kathryn Bigelow films The Hurt Locker and Zero Dark Thirty, as well as the upcoming reboot of The Fantastic Four, has died. He was 63. Little, who got his start as a costumer on Francis Ford Coppola’s 1979 classic Apocalypse Now and contributed to Transcendence — the April release that starred Johnny Depp — died Aug. 29 at his home in Los Angeles, his ex-wife Carlane Passman told The Hollywood Reporter. Passman, a costume supervisor, chose not to divulge details surrounding Little’s death. Little served as costume designer on Tony Scott’s

Check out the new IMAX trailer for Transcendence starring Johnny Depp, Paul Bettany, Rebecca Hall, Kate Mara, Cillian Murphy, Clifton Collins, Jr., and Morgan Freeman.
Dr. Will Caster (Johnny Depp) is the foremost researcher in the field of Artificial Intelligence, working to create a sentient machine that combines the collective intelligence of everything ever known with the full range of human emotions.
His highly controversial experiments have made him famous, but they have also made him the prime target of anti-technology extremists who will do whatever it takes to stop him.
However, in their attempt to destroy Will, they inadvertently become the catalyst for him to succeed—to be a participant in his own transcendence. For his wife Evelyn (Rebecca Hall) and best friend Max Waters (Paul Bettany), both fellow researchers, the question is not if they can…but if they should.

The Oscar for Best Costumes is normally pretty easy to predict, just focus on the costume drama and don't look back. This year that film is Anna Karenina with costumes by Jacqueline Durran, and, as expected, she took home the Period Film award at tonight's 2013 Costume Designers Guild Awards. Then Jany Temime's work on Skyfall won the Contemporary category, but her work wasn't nominated for an Oscar so as far as predictions go we can move along. Then we come to the Fantasy category where the two Snow White films do battle and both were nominated for an Oscar. The winner? The late Eiko Ishioka's work on Mirror Mirror. Ishioka passed away at the beginning of last year and Mirror Mirror serves as her second Oscar nomination. She won previously for her work on Francis Ford Coppola's Dracula. As for Durran, this is the third time she's been nominated for an Oscar,...

Finally the Cdg nominations have been announced, and while they right some of the wrongs made by Oscar and chiefly BAFTA, ample opportunity to reward some really creative and effective costume design has once again been overlooked.
We have indicated at length our views on the Academy and BAFTA’s nominations (Here and Here) so in the interests of not sounding like a broken record we shall stick to the facts. Well, perhaps just the odd observation… Nominations below:
Excellence in Contemporary Film
Beasts of the Southern Wild – Stephani Lewis
The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel – Louise Stjernsward
Silver Linings Playbook – Mark Bridges
Skyfall – Jany Temime
Zero Dark Thirty – George L. Little

Once again a batch of guild nominees come in following the Oscar nominations, which doesn't exactly make them all that interesting. At least not for me as I'm more interested in predicting the Oscar winners than who actually wins these awards. As such, featured below are the nominees for the 2013 Costume Designers Guild Awards for excellence in period, contemporary and fantasy films. To no surprise, all five Oscar nominees -- Anna Karenina, Mirror Mirror, Lincoln, Les Miserables and Snow White and the Huntsman -- are among the 15 nominees, not one coming from the contemporary category, which, again, isn't at all surprising. At this point I have Jacqueline Durran's work in Anna Karenina predicted to win the Oscar and the late Eiko Ishioka (Dracula) the runner up for her work on Mirror Mirror. The Costume Designers Guild Awards will be held on Tuesday, February 19, the last guild awards to be...

The hunt for Osama bin Laden preoccupied the world and two American presidential administrations for more than a decade. But in the end, it took a small, dedicated team of CIA operatives to track him down. Every aspect of their mission was shrouded in secrecy. Though some of the details have since been made public, many of the most significant parts of the intelligence operation..including the central role played by that team..are brought to the screen for the first time in a nuanced and gripping new film by the Oscar®-winning creative duo of Kathryn Bigelow and Mark Boal.

Washington -- The Pentagon says its top intelligence official, who has been mentioned as a possible candidate to be the next CIA director, is under investigation in connection with information he provided to makers of a movie about the raid that killed Osama bin Laden.
Pentagon press secretary George Little said Tuesday evening that the investigation of Michael Vickers is being conducted by the Pentagon's inspector general.
Vickers is the undersecretary of defense for intelligence.
Little said Vickers only provided unclassified information to the makers of the movie "Zero Dark Thirty," and that the session was arranged in July 2011 by the Pentagon's office of public affairs.
Little said Defense Secretary Leon Panetta has full confidence in Vickers.

White House wanted to back 'gutsy' portrayal of Us president in new Kathryn Bigelow film Zero Dark Thirty, claims Judicial Watch
Newly released documents prove that Barack Obama's administration gave enthusiastic help to the Oscar-winning team behind a new film about the killing of Osama bin Laden, according to a rightwing Us government watchdog.
Kathryn Bigelow and Mark Boal's new film Zero Dark Thirty centres on the Us Navy Seal unit that raided Bin Laden's compound in northern Pakistan in May 2011 on the orders of the Us president. The project drew flak from Republicans earlier this year after it emerged that Obama's administration shared information with the production team.
The latest missives were obtained by the Judicial Watch group under the Us freedom of information act. "These new documents provide more backing to the serious charge that the Obama administration played fast and loose with national security information to help Hollywood filmmakers,...

Washington -- The Pentagon says that some members of the military were either killed or wounded in the Colorado shooting at the Batman movie.
Pentagon press secretary George Little says it's not yet clear how many military casualties there were, or whether they were deaths or injuries.
Marine Col. Dave Lapan, a Pentagon spokesman, says initial indications are that the suspect, James Holmes, was not a member of the military.
Holmes has been taken into custody in the deadly Denver-area shooting spree that killed 12 people and injured at least 50 others during a midnight showing of the movie Friday.
The FBI says there is no indication the shooting is tied to any terrorist groups.

The repeal of the 1993 law Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell, which allowed gays to only serve in the military if they kept their sexual orientation secret, has officially gone into effect, The Huffington Post is reporting. George Little, the Pentagon press secretary, said the military is adequately prepared for the end of Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell. “No one should be left with the impression that we are unprepared. Today’s Washington Post has details on the C.I.A.’s new WikiLeaks task force. Known around the agency as “W.T.F.,” the the 24-person team charged with determining “whether the latest release of WikiLeaks documents might affect the agency's foreign relationships or operations,” according to C.I.A. spokesperson George Little. Within W.T.F. there are several subdivisions, which, unfortunately, are so secret and poorly named that they were not reported on by the Post. Vf Daily, however, is rather well sourced in both the acronym and intelligence communities, and has information about several of these subdivisions.

Venue: Venice Film Festival, In Competition
The definitive film about the U.S. involvement in Iraq has yet to be made, and "The Hurt Locker" doesn't aspire to compete in the category. Tensely action-packed and muscularly directed by Kathryn Bigelow, this tale of an elite U.S. army bomb disposal unit in Baghdad is a familiar story in new clothes, targeted at the young male demographic. Its Iraq setting is downplayed as incidental, perhaps to avoid the commercial disappointment of the two Iraq-themed titles screened in Venice last year, "Redacted" and "In the Valley of Elah." "Locker's" refusal to take a moral stance on the war should widen its audience to the U.S. military, while lowering its chance for a a major festival prize.
