Strap on your duster jackets, folks, because it looks like Lionsgate is moving forward with their adaptation of the space western video game, Borderlands. According to THR, the studio has hired Aaron Berg to pen the script for the flick. If you haven't heard of Mr. Berg, there's a reason for it. The writer is a relatively new talent who was hired to write G.I. Joe 3 around this time last year. His only other credit is that of a spec script called Section 6, which was purchased by Universal back in 2013.
Obviously this is an early step of many in the entire film production process. With films like Warcraft and Assassin's Creed on the horizon, Lionsgate is no doubt getting its ducks in a row for its own video game property in hopes that the aforementioned films will find a big audience. Back when the studio first nabbed the rights to the video game,...

Of all the video game franchises that are yet to flirt with the silver screen, you’d be hard-pressed to find one more ripe for the picking than Gearbox Software’s Borderlands series. Blending genres with ease, the studio’s open-world, sci-fi shooter is brimming with personality and delightfully insane characters (Claptrap!), and it appears Lionsgate has taken notice of the idiosyncratic franchise with plans to turn the 2K-owned property into a feature film.
Variety has the skinny on the big-screen adaptation which is, as you’d imagine, in the very early stages of development. That doesn’t mean the studio hasn’t been pitching around early ideas for a Borderlands film, and going off of Rob Friedman and Patrick Wachsberger’s – Lionsgate Motion Picture Group Co-Chairs – joint statement, the company is at least aiming to be faithful to the over-the-top nature of Gearbox’s shooter.

Legendary Entertainment’s Thomas Tull will be stepping up his existing investment in Nerdist and will be actually making an all-out acquisition of it. Nerdist was founded in 2008 by comedian, author, podcaster, and new media personality Chris Hardwick. In 2011, Nerdist merged with Peter Levin’s GeekChicDaily to form Nerdist Industries. According to Deadline “Hardwick and Levin will continue in their current roles within Nerdist, and will also take on the roles of Co-Presidents of Legendary’s digital business with Hardwick serving as Co-President Digital Content and Levin functioning as Co-President Digital Strategy. They will work closely with Legendary’s executive management team on event management and comics-related operations. The deal calls for Nerdist to maintain complete editorial autonomy, as well (Hardwick and Levin wouldn’t have done the deal if they were going to be stripped of their independence, though they will now they will report to Legendary Entertainment COO...

What's Last Man Standing: Killbook of a Bounty Hunter? It's the latest sci-fi/superpunk property to be purchased by Paramount Pictures.
(Hey, I just made up a new term: "superpunk". Superhero fiction done cyberpunk-ish. Remember kids, it began here.)
Why do I call Last Man Standing superpunk? Because it's set in a world where mutated people have messed-up superpowers. There's shark-men, bunny-men, strippers with large automatic firearms, muscular dudes that look like a cross between Mma fighters and Road Warrior deathheads. Naturally, it's a graphic novel that's going to be turned into a coffee table book by Heavy Metal Publishing.
Last Man Standing also has a story behind its creation. It's maker, Daniel LuVisi, has been trying to get his book made for the past three years. He's been publishing updates on DeviantART, keeping the ball rolling and generating interest from the Dart community. Check out this poster list of...
