Covid has played havoc with production schedules across the globe, and for the first major Russian movie to shoot on location in Europe since the pandemic struck last year, it’s been a case study in compromise and adaptation.
Restrictions on crew movements, the director’s Covid infection and a delay by local authorities in granting permission to shoot on location in Germany have combined to push the schedule of the €10 million ($11.8 million) historical drama “Nuremberg” back by a year.
The film — an international co-production with Russia, the Czech Republic, Germany and the U.K. — incorporated Covid safety protocols in order to shoot on location near Prague, which is buzzing with productions right now. But ambitious plans to shoot in the actual prison that housed top Nazis during the post-wwii Nuremberg trials in 1946 have been put on hold after local authorities deemed the idea too risky as Covid cases rose in Germany.

Russian distributor Central Partnership has announced a raft of deals on their 2016 blockbuster The Crew (Ekipazh), also known as Flight Crew.
The disaster movie, shot in digital 3D IMAX and directed by Nikolay Lebedev, is a remake of a 1979 Russian film, Air Crew (Ekipazh).
In South America, Bf Distribution has taken rights for Chile, Peru, Bolivia and Ecuador with Chile releasing the film on October 20 and Peru following with a wide release on November 24.
Juliana da Cunha Jacobsen, head of acquisitions and business affairs at Bf Distribution, commented: “The strong commercial appeal from action and natural disaster tales quickly called our attention when learning about the movie. We were absolutely impacted by the level of production and quality that the team behind The Crew was able to pull off.
“Foreign films in general are very tricky in Latin America as they generally fall in...

A new trailer for Infierno en el Cielo gets right to the point: this is a crazy airplane thriller (apparently) that you probably won't want to watch if you have a fear of flying and/or are taking a flight anytime soon. Originally titled Ekipazh, it's a Russian movie, directed by Nikolay Lebedev. Our own Todd Brown discovered the Russian-language trailer and other information last November. The English title at that time was Flight Crew. Here's the synopsis: A young pilot gets kicked out of the military air force after breaching an absurd order. He starts working as a second pilot in the civil aviation. Always straight-forward, he is not on best terms with his new colleagues. During a flight to Asia his crew receives an...

While recent events are certainly going to pose challenges when it comes to selling an air disaster film in Russia it certainly appears as though director Nikolay Lebedev has delivered a high quality one with his upcoming Crew.A young pilot gets kicked out of the military air force after breaching an absurd order. He starts working as a second pilot in the civil aviation. Always straight-forward, he is not on best terms with his new colleagues.During a flight to Asia his crew receives an alert about an earthquake on the volcanic island and takes a decision to fly a dangerous rescue mission. Only together the crew can survive the disaster.Based on the trailer I'd say there's a bit of Bruckheimer in the DNA of this...

Roskino and Russian Cinema are joining forces for the first time to present companies in the Russian Pavilion at the forthcoming Marché du Film in Cannes.
In previous years, the two promotional platforms – Russian Cinema financed by the Russian Cinema Fund (Rcf) and Roskino by the Russian Federation’s Ministry of Culture – had operated from separate locations in Cannes.
And at the Berlinale’s European Film Market, Russian Cinema has had a stand in the Martin Gropius Bau, while Roskino was based on the first floor of the Marriott Hotel.
At a press conference in Moscow, Rcf executive director Anton Malyshev spoke about the reasoning behind the decision to organise a united stand and pointed to the “necessity for optimisation of expenditure” and the fact that the available resources were limited this year. Although the financing from the state had not been formally cut, the weakening of the Russian rouble vis-a-vis the Us dollar had put the...

From director Nikolay Lebedev, who brought you Oksana Akinshina's nude ass in Wolfhound, come at least two more nude asses in "romantic" as they call it (judging by the trailer more like erotic) thriller Фонограмма Страсти (direct translation: The Record of Passion).
The synopsis tells that it will be a story about the girl who fell in love with a guy, who was listened by her in some spying organization and who is going to be killed.
The movie will be released on 11st February this year.

Ah hell yeah!!! Man, I've been waiting for a decent R1 DVD release of Nikolai Lebedev's Wolfhound (Волкодав из рода Серых) for well over a year so please excuse that gratuitous use of exclamations marks. Actually no, I apologize for nothing!
One of the first in the recent wave of big budget Russian adventure films, Wolfhound is based on the first novel in a tetralogy by writer Maria Semyonova and was, I think, intended to be trilogy. So far however, there's been no announcement of whether or not we'll see more episodes in the Wolfhound series.
Synopsis:
The last remaining member of a slaughtered tribe pursues vengeance against all odds for his family’s murder. When he discovers his target is a brutal, Sauron-like tyrant, his personal quest grows into an all-out war to rescue a nation and exact revenge.
There's not a ton of information on this R...
