Just two weeks out from the debut of the hugely anticipated film, get a final glimpse of Furiosa – George Miller’s return to the world of Mad Max.
So here we are. In just a couple of weeks, one of 2023’s most anticipated films will arrive, bringing George Miller’s world of Mad Max back to cinemas for the first time since 2015’s Mad Max: Fury Road wowed audiences with its incredible scale and ambition. It pulled off the sort of practical action movie spectacle that was sorely missing from cinema in an age of ever-increasing CGI.
There’s probably not been an action movie to come close to it since, and so there’s an outsized sense of expectation accompanying George Miller’s follow-up, Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga. The film has taken a long time to arrive, but arrived it almost has, with its mammoth production easily becoming...

"Do you have it in ya to make it epic?"
Based on what we see in this final trailer for Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga, ol' Dementus has very little to worry about.
Tickets are now on sale for George Miller's Mad Max: Fury Road prequel, and Warner Bros. has debuted one more teaser to ensure that engines are well and truly revved and ready for May 24. We also have a new featurette with stars Anya Taylor-Joy and Chris Hemsworth discussing the movie, and a couple of new posters.
Full reviews are still under embargo, but the first social media reactions were highly positive - although it doesn't sound like Miller has quite managed to surpass Fury Road when it comes to sheer adrenaline-pumping action.
Check out the new promos at the links below.

Anya Taylor-Joy and Chris Hemsworth are ready to “make it epic” when Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga barrels into cinemas on May 24, 2024! As tickets for the full-throttle prequel become available for pre-order, the final Furiosa trailer explodes onto screens with action, drama, and one particular shot that now makes me curious about an element of the film. I’m talking about the shot of the CGI-enhanced War Boy.
My knee-jerk reaction to the CGI-enhanced War Boy is one of apprehension. How large of a role does this character play in the film, and will their cartoonishness offset an otherwise incredible-looking film? I hope not. One of the more thrilling elements of Miller’s Mad Max series is the visual spectacle, and I worry the CGI-enhanced War Boy could be an “arrow to the knee.” I could be entirely off base, and I’m simply being paranoid for no good reason.

Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga director George Miller recently confirmed that the upcoming prequel will feature a surprise appearance from Max Rockatansky. Except now, what could have been one of the movie's biggest talking points is no longer a surprise!
We first met the character in 1979's Mad Max where he was played by Mel Gibson. The actor went on to reprise the role in Mad Max 2 and Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome, with Tom Hardy taking over in 2015's Mad Max: Fury Road.
During a recent screening, Miller announced that Jacob Tomuri (who we've included a photo of below) will play Max in Furiosa.
"It was Jacob Tomuri, who was Tom Hardy's double [in Fury Road]," Miller told attendees (via SFFGazette.com). "He also did some other stunts. He's a New Zealand stuntman, and he was doing some other stunts on the film, and I thought, 'Who better?'"

It's been close to a decade since Mad Max: Fury Road revved into theaters, and with Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga fast approaching, excitement for the movie is understandably through the roof.
George Miller isn't known for rushing his movies, of course, but after coming up with the idea for Furiosa on the set of its 2015 predecessor, we've now learned that he has yet another idea to expand the post-apocalyptic franchise.
"In doing what we did in the preparation of Mad Max: Fury Road, we also wrote what happened to Max in the year before we encounter him in [that film]," Miller told Entertainment Weekly (via SFFGazette.com), seemingly confirming that Max Rockatansky makes a cameo appearance in Furiosa.
"And as we get towards the end of [Furiosa], the chronology, basically, we had to see that Mad Max was lurking around somewhere because we do know what happened," the filmmaker teased. "The...

We're used to seeing Chris Hemsworth kicking butt in the MCU as Thor, but in Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga, the actor will get to show a new side of himself as the twisted Dementus.
However, while these characters couldn't be any different, there's one thing they do have in common: a cape!
"It was a real departure, and it was nice...I was about to say it was nice not to wear a cape, but I did have a cape in this film," Hemsworth tells Entertainment Weekly. "And it's red - or it becomes red eventually, as well. The absurdity of that."
"There's a whole lot of rules that you have to stick to [with superhero films]," the actor continued. "It's not intentional to be a comparison of Thor, but I found a wonderful departure to it. To play the villain, transform, and inhabit a completely different physicality was a lot of fun.

In addition to a new international poster and still, we have three action-packed TV spots.
The spots reuse some footage from the previous teasers, but there is also quite a bit of new stuff, including a face-off between Furiosa and Dementus in which the Dark Angel prepares to test the warlord's "high pain threshold."

Every passing day brings us closer to director George Miller fulfilling a dream that has been decades in the making, but is that truly the end of the story? Long before he ever unleashed "Mad Max: Fury Road" upon unsuspecting audiences in 2015, as revealed in author Kyle Buchanan's excellent making-of book titled "Blood, Sweat & Chrome: The Wild and True Story of Mad Max: Fury Road," Miller's extensive backstory for the legendary Imperator Furiosa (Charlize Theron) ultimately led to tentative plans for an entire prequel film down the line. That time has finally come in the form of the upcoming "Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga" starring Anya Taylor-Joy and Chris Hemsworth, giving us a definitive origin for the fearsome and scene-stealing hero while putting a button on what's sure to be one heck of an action duology ... or so we thought.

In a candid interview with Total Film, producer Doug Mitchell disclosed an interesting titbit about the upcoming Mad Max: Fury Road prequel movie, Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga.
In the interview, Mitchell revealed that the groundwork for Furiosa‘s narrative was laid 15 years ago. The script was even completed before the critically-acclaimed Fury Road.
But here’s the real kicker: the initial vision for Furiosa was wildly different. Originally titled The Peach, it was planned as an anime film to be directed by Mahiro Maeda, known for his contributions in a number of anime films, from Neon Genesis Evangelion to Studio Ghibli films such as Porco Rosso and Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind.
However, the trajectory of Furiosa took a surprising turn, pivoting from its anime origins to emerge as a live-action film.

George Miller has pushed the “Mad Max” franchise to new levels of spectacle with each film, but the Australian might have topped himself with an action sequence in the upcoming “Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga.”
Miller’s new “Mad Max: Fury Road” prequel, which is set to premiere at the Cannes Film Festival next month, stars Anya Taylor-Joy as a younger version of the titular character made famous by Charlize Theron. The film is based on the extensive backstory about Furiosa that Miller created to help his “Fury Road” cast and crew members immerse themselves in the film’s world.
While the massive success of “Fury Road” would be a hard act for any filmmaker to follow, Miller’s collaborators seem convinced that he found a way to match the scale of his Oscar-winning 2015 film. In a new feature in Total Film magazine, Miller’s producing partner Doug Mitchell revealed...

In 2016, George Miller came back to his cult franchise, Mad Max, at 70 years old and accomplished a major feat that amazingly put younger action directors in their place. With Mad Max: Fury Road, Miller was able to make an epic-scale, high-budgeted version of his wasteland fairy tale with some of the most eye-popping action sequences seen in some time. The sequel featured a new character played by Charlize Theron and Anya Taylor-Joy now embodies her for Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga. The vehicular carnage crashes into theaters next month and promotion has been revving up with a cover story in the latest issue of Total Film, which features newly seen covers that you can view Here.

Total Film Magazine wants you to witness the badassery of Anya Taylor-Joy’s Furiosa for George Miller’s upcoming prequel with new covers for the entertainment publication. On the first Furiosa magazine cover, Taylor-Joy’s road warrior sports the latest in Wasteland fashion: tire tread armor, worn leather straps, and black grease paint covering the top half of her shaven skull. For the alternate cover, Furiosa evokes an unholy Wasteland clergy look with a red cloak, bandaged chest, fire-roasted pants, and a mechanical arm to help crush War Boys’ balls into dust.
Directed by Miller from a screenplay he wrote with Nico Lathouris, Furiosa has the following synopsis: As the world fell, young Furiosa is snatched from the Green Place of Many Mothers and falls into the hands of a great Biker Horde led by the Warlord Dementus. Sweeping through the Wasteland, they come across the Citadel presided over by the Immortan Joe.

This article contains mild plot spoilers for George Miller’s Furiosa!
Director George Miller is continuing the Mad Max franchise with the Mad Max: Fury Road prequel Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga, which is set to reach theatres on May 24th – and with that date just over a month away, the film got some promotion during the Warner Bros. presentation at CinemaCon in Las Vegas.
Anya Taylor-Joy, Chris Hemsworth, and George Miller took the stage during the Warner Bros. panel. Miller told the eager CinemaCon crowd that Furiosa takes place over 18 years, whereas Fury Road’s story lasted three days. Miller then quipped that if the apocalypse actually happened, Anya would be the one he’d want to hang out with as she has the rigor and commitment.
Speaking about Hemsworth, Miller said he couldn’t think of anyone to play Dementus, and he’d had the script for a long time.

Back in 2010, it was reported that director George Miller would be shooting two new entries in his Mad Max franchise back-to-back: the sequel Mad Max: Fury Road and a follow-up called Furiosa. But things didn’t work out that way, and making Mad Max: Fury Road on its own proved to quite a struggle – a five month shoot in the deserts of Namibia, with two lead actors (Tom Hardy as Max Rockatansky and Charlize Theron as Furiosa) who couldn’t stand each other. Miller didn’t let the grueling process put him off making more Mad Max movies, though. Immediately after the release of Mad Max: Fury Road in 2015, Miller announced that he had already written a screenplay and a novella of further stories… and Max himself would return in a film called Mad Max: The Wasteland. But eight years have passed, and while Furiosa is ready to go (with...

“There will always be war,” intones an authoritative voice at the end of the second trailer for Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga. “But to get home, Furiosa fought the world.”
A narrator isn’t exactly something new to the world of Mad Max, as the 1981 sequel Mad Max 2: The Road Warrior opens and closes with voiceover, as does 2015’s Mad Max: Fury Road. But in those cases, the narration served a basic expositional purpose, providing basic information for those who have not seen the previous films — something particularly important for The Road Warrior, as few Americans had the opportunity to watch 1979’s Mad Max.
But as Anya Taylor-Joy steps in for Charlize Theron in Furiosa, the narrator serves a different, more important in-universe purpose.
In a recent interview with EW, Furiosa director George Miller shed some light on this voice from the shadows. “That’s a narrator called the History Man,...

Turns out, Anya Taylor-Joy has a shaved head in “Mad Max: Fury Road” prequel “Furiosa.”
The “Queen’s Gambit” star recently told Empire magazine that director George Miller told her to not shave her head for the role; however, in the new trailer, a buzzed cut is boasted by the star, mirroring Charlize Theron’s look as Furiosa for “Fury Road.” Taylor-Joy is almost certainly sporting a wig in the film; we sure haven’t seen her growing back long locks in the time since.
“I feel very lucky that, from the second I read the script, I just knew this person. I felt so fiercely protective over Furiosa, and fiercely protective of her interests,” Taylor-Joy said of taking over the character from Theron. She also told IndieWire that “Furiosa” was the “dirtiest and the bloodiest” she’s ever been onscreen.

Warner Bros. has released the second trailer for George Miller’s “Furiosa”, the post-apocalyptic prequel to “Mad Max: Fury Road.” The film stars Anya-Taylor Joy as wasteland warrior princess Imperator Furiosa, a role originally plated by Charlize Theron in the 2015 series reboot.
The film follows a young Furiosa as she is ripped from her refuge in the Green Place of Many Mothers and, for the first time, forced to face the insanity of the desolate world beyond. Chris Hemsworth and Tom Burke star alongside Taylor-Joy.
The new trailer shows Taylor-Joy going full Furiosa by cutting her hair and wearing her robotic arm prosthetic. It begins with a flashback to an even younger Furiosa getting kidnapped by a gang of marauders on motorbikes. As a young adult, she then goes on a revenge rampage against Hemsworth’s unnamed ringleader. Just like “Fury Road,” there is plenty of car carnage and wasteland weirdos teased in the trailer.

When director George Miller needed to fill the role of Immortan Joe in Mad Max: Fury Road, he turned to actor Hugh Keays-Byrne, who had previously played the villainous Toecutter in the original Mad Max. Sadly, Keays-Byrne passed away in 2020, before Miller could get the prequel Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga into production – so in this movie, which is set to reach theatres on May 24, the role of Immortan Joe is being played by Lachy Hulme. Hulme’s casting in the role was confirmed by Empire, and they also scored a great quote from Hulme about the scope of the film. He told them Furiosa is “David Lean, but with motorbikes instead of camels. When you see 4,000 custom-made motorbikes come over a hill, you shit your pants.“
Hulme pulls double duty in the Furiosa, as he also plays a character called Rizzdale Pell, who is “one of the gang members...

When Mad Max: Fury Road was released by Warner Bros. back in 2015, Mad Max saga mastermind George Miller already had ideas for more Max Rockatansky stories and a prequel that would focus on the Furiosa character. Unfortunately, before he could move forward with any of them, his production company had to take WB to court over unpaid Fury Road earnings, an issue that slowed things down for years. The problem was finally resolved and now, nine years after Fury Road, the prequel Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga has made its way through production and is set to reach theatres on May 24th. In anticipation of the film’s release, we have compiled a list of everything we know about this one – and you can check it out right here:

The first official trailer for Warner Bros. Pictures’ Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga confirms two important details. One, Anya Taylor-Joy looks totally badass as the titular character. And two, the long wait between Mad Max films has been worth it.
The two-and-a-half minute trailer’s loaded with gritty action, and Oscar-winning filmmaker George Miller’s epic action thriller captures its predecessor’s vibe.
In addition to Emmy nominee Anya Taylor-Joy (The Queen’s Gambit), the Fury Road prequel stars Chris Hemsworth, Alyla Browne, and Tom Burke. Miller co-wrote the screenplay with Mad Max: Fury Road‘s Nico Lathouris.
Miller reunites with production designer Colin Gibson, editor Margaret Sixel, sound mixer Ben Osmo, costume designer Jenny Beavan, and makeup designer Lesley Vanderwalt for Furiosa. His behind-the-scenes team also includes first assistant director Pj Voeten, second unit director, stunt coordinator Guy Norris, director of photography Simon Duggan, composer Tom Holkenborg, sound designer Robert Mackenzie,...

Anya Taylor-Joy is transforming into a post-apocalyptic warrior for “Mad Max: Fury Road” prequel film “Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga.”
The long-awaited epic, helmed by “Mad Max” creator George Miller, stars Taylor-Joy as the title character, who was originally portrayed by Charlize Theron in 2015’s “Fury Road.” Theron’s Furiosa was a war captain serving tyrant Immortan Joe, who later leads a coup by freeing the ruler’s top female breeders.
Chris Hemsworth and Tom Burke also star in “Furiosa,” which begins with Taylor-Joy’s character growing up in the idyllic Green Place and serving the Vuvalini army before becoming the hardened warrior seen in “Fury Road.” The film is being described as a “traditional three-act drama,” as opposed to the action-heavy chase film of “Fury Road.”
“Furiosa” is co-written by Miller, along with “Fury Road” screenwriter Nick Lathouris. The prequel captures the origins of Gas Town and the Bullet Farm in the franchise.

Immortan Joe. Toast. Nux. Slit. These are some of the names of the characters that populate the wild, apocalyptic wasteland in George Miller's breathlessly exhilarating "Mad Max: Fury Road," which revisits the world of the original trilogy. While the technical terms used to describe "Fury Road" is either "reboot" or "sequel," Miller likes to think of it as a fresh foray into familiar territory, with the stakes being higher than ever for our ever-reluctant hero, Max Rockatansky. Considering that the world Max inhabits is a cruel, barren dystopia, it is rather fitting that the names of the characters are as distinct and eccentric as the socio-political circumstances that shape and reshape the social strata of a world on the brink of extinction.
It is important to note that weird character names have always been a staple in the "Mad Max" franchise. Miller's original film featured dudes named Mudguts and Toecutter,...

George Miller's "Mad Max: Fury Road" is a beast of a film. A lot of time and relentless effort went into the creation of this bonkers action spectacle, where Miller worked closely with comic-book artist Brendan McCarthy and Nico Lathouris (who appeared in Miller's 1979 original) to bring his vision to life. "Fury Road" presents a story of epic proportions — we are introduced smack dab in the middle of a dystopia, where cult-run city-states are surrounded by barren wastelands and survival is the name of the game. Once Max (Tom Hardy) arrives on the scene, he is quickly intercepted by a group of War Boys, who scream and lug him around to The Citadel with the intention of using his blood for medicinal purposes.
One of the most thrilling aspects of "Fury Road" is that it does not waste any time to set things up, or linger around for audiences...

The Mad Max movie franchise, first created by George Miller and Byron Kennedy in 1979 with the initial movie of the same name, became a media sensation. The film series is set in post-apocalyptic Australia and follows the titular character Max Rockatansky (portrayed by Mel Gibson in 3 films) into action-packed adventures.
Later on, Tom Hardy took over as Max for 2015’s fourth installment – “Mad Max: Fury Road.”
The series chronicles the thrilling escapades of Rockatansky, a police officer in a dystopian Australia facing social disintegration due to war and depleting resources. Grief-stricken and enraged by the biker gang’s murder of his wife and child, Max embarks on a quest for vengeance.
As Australia rapidly plunges into barbarity with each passing day, he finds himself assisting small pockets of civilization – initially driven by self-interest but eventually out of compassion. Alone in the Wasteland, Max is determined to make that responsible pay for their heinous deed.

I will go out on a limb today and say something controversial. Are you ready? Mad Max: Fury Road is one of the greatest films ever. Shocking, I know! I should be fired for printing such blasphemy. With George Miller’s Three Thousand Years of Longing making wishes come true in theaters, the time-honored director is making headlines while keeping the PR train on track. During a recent chat with Av Club, Miller revealed that he and writer Nico Lathouris penned materials related to Tom Hardy’s Mad Max that goes beyond the events of Mad Max: Fury Road. How much, you ask? How about a novel’s worth of backstory related to Max’s journey before the events of Miller’s 2015 masterpiece? Does that information get your engine purring? Should I find you a bottle of silver spray paint so you can go to town? Could you handle another Fury Road prequel?...

Seven years went by between the release of Mad Max: Fury Road and the start of production on the prequel Furiosa, which is currently filming, but director George Miller has had the script for Furiosa ready for a long time. In fact, during an interview with Av Club Miller revealed that the script for Furiosa was already “virtually complete” by the time Mad Max: Fury Road started filming way back in 2012.
Miller said,
When we wrote Mad Max, the task was to tell a story that was always on the run and to see how much the audience could pick up in passing. That was one of the tricks of Mad Max: Fury Road, that there would be references to things of where she’s from, why they’re doing things, but it was always on the run. There were very few moments of quiet. We never explained how she lost her arm.

Imagine venturing out into the vast Namibian desert with no real script, little to no contact with the outside world, and a foreboding sense that the project could turn out to be one monumental mistake. For "Mad Max: Fury Road" stars Charlize Theron and Tom Hardy, this was their profoundly uncomfortable reality during filming of the epic action movie, much of which contributed to the pair locking horns and coming to blows repeatedly throughout the punishing production.
Far from the most ideal circumstances the first time around, writer and director George Miller thankfully has no intention of reliving such a challenging experience. When it comes to the highly-anticipated prequel film, "Furiosa" already has a built-in advantage: The script has been in the making, both in Miller's head and on the page, long before "Fury Road" ever became a reality. Although currently in the thick of shooting the prequel in the deserts of Australia,...

Director George Miller has said that the events in his Mad Max: Fury Road prequel Furiosa play out over a period of fifteen years – and now we know that the passage of time is going to be obvious when we’re looking at Dementus, the character played by Chris Hemsworth (Thor). While a picture taken of Hemsworth on set last month showed him sporting the red hair of a younger Dementus, more recent Furiosa set pics show Hemsworth playing a Dementus who has gone gray. You can see both versions of Dementus in the embeds below – and if I hadn’t been told that was Hemsworth in the pictures, I wouldn’t even have recognized him.

Principal photography is underway on Academy Award-winning filmmaker George Miller’s “Furiosa,” the much-anticipated return to the iconic dystopian world he created more than 30 years ago with the seminal “Mad Max” films, this time with an original new standalone action adventure that will reveal the origins of the powerhouse character from the multiple Oscar-winning global smash “Mad Max: Fury Road.”
The new feature is being produced by Miller’s own Australian-based Kennedy Miller Mitchell banner, together with the filmmaker’s “Fury Road” partners Warner Bros. Pictures and Village Roadshow Pictures. Anya Taylor-Joy stars in the title role, alongside Chris Hemsworth and Tom Burke.
As the world fell, young Furiosa is snatched from the Green Place of Many Mothers and falls into the hands of a great Biker Horde led by the Warlord Dementus. Sweeping through the Wasteland they come across the Citadel presided over by The Immortan Joe. While the two Tyrants war for dominance,...

Charlize Theron’s Imperator Furiosa, a hardened war captain who rebels against the tyrannical Immortan Joe (Hugh Keays-Byrne) to free his women captives alongside Max Rockatansky (Tom Hardy), is a large part of what made 2015’s “Mad Max: Fury Road” a blockbuster juggernaut — now considered among viewers and critics alike to be one of the best action films of all time. She made her debut in the fourth installment of George Miller’s widely celebrated franchise, which began in 1979 with Mel Gibson starring in the title role.
Warner Bros.
While the Oscar-winning movie offered some insight into Furiosa’s backstory, including her remembrances of the “Green Place” — an idyllic location from her childhood that predates the current post-apocalyptic wasteland — her self-titled film will uncover her origin story in depth. “Furiosa” will follow the badass heroine prior to her captaining days, serving as a prequel to “Fury Road,” with Anya Taylor-Joy taking over the lead role.

Furiosa is getting a character study after all.
Following Charlize Theron’s rough and tumble take on the “Mad Max: Fury Road” warrior, assistant director and producer P. J. Voeten noted that the eponymous prequel film “Furiosa” will embrace more traditional storytelling. The film stars Anya Taylor-Joy in the titular role and is set to be released in theaters in 2024. Chris Hemsworth and Tom Burke co-star alongside Taylor-Joy.
“‘Furiosa’ is more of a traditional three-act drama. If people are expecting to see another chase movie, it’s not going to be that,” Voeten said, as reported by The New York Times writer Kyle Buchanan in his new book, “Blood, Sweat & Chrome: The Wild and True Story of ‘Mad Max: Fury Road.'”
