They were the profanity-laced taunts heard around the world, and now bullied school bus monitor Karen Klein is turning her torment into a force for good. After a video of the verbal (and even physical, as some students poked her) attack by 7th graders in upstate New York earlier this year went viral, it was seen more than 8.5 million times, and promoted a good Samaritan to set up a donation site, to give Klein a vacation. That request ultimately generated more than $700,000 - with contributors reportedly numbering more than 30,000 from 84 countries. The result, Wednesday's Today show reports: The Karen Klein Anti-Bullying Foundation,...

Australian rugby player David Pocock challenged former tennis player John Alexander, who is now a minister of Parliament, on gay marriage. “The biggest thing in this debate is that we’re dealing with people here. And how can you blame someone for what they are? People don’t choose their sexuality and we marginalise the Lgbti community for what they are. I think that this is a conversation that needs to be had and that needs to be discussed compassionately and actually come to something that’s reasonable. And in my mind, that’s marriage for everyone. We’ve moved forward on so many issues and this is the next progression.”

And thus, the saga of the bullied bus monitor comes to a very satisfying conclusion.
Earlier this month, a video went viral of the elderly Greece, NY bus monitor Karen Klein being bullied and berated by the middle-school students on her bus. The response was enormous -- over $675,000 has been raised on the site IndieGoGo for Karen to use as she chooses.
Now, the school district has also responded. The four boys identified in the video have been suspended from school for one year, and instead will have to attend an alternative education program. They'll be banned from school district buses for one year, and each boy is required to complete 50 hours of community service for the elderly.
When asked if the punishment was satisfactory, Klein told the AP, "It's fine with me." She plans to donate some of her windfall to research and hasn't yet decided if she will...

Elderly bus monitor Karen Klein thinks her teen bullies should be suspended from the school bus for a year but I think their parents have to answer for the despicable behavior of their kids as well. Watching Karen Klein's 13 and 14-year-od bully boys attack her relentlessly for being in their words, 'fat', 'sweaty 'and 'ugly', made me disgusted but also sad for these clearly troubled kids. Children are not born bullies. They learn to be bullies. And when I see and listen to their inappropriate behavior I just wonder what their lives are like at home and maybe at school as well. Only children who feel worthless and powerless themselves, can take so much pleasure in believing they finally have power - the power to hurt someone who they perceive to be weaker. My bet is that foul-mouthed Josh and Wesley, and maybe the others too, are probably victims of bullying themselves,...

Middle school bus monitor Karen Klein, who has received an outpouring of support via the Internet after a video of some 7th graders brutally bullying her went viral, appeared on "Anderson Cooper 360" to talk about the situation.
"I was trying to get it out of my mind," Klein says of the incident. "I was looking out the window ... I just didn't hear everything that they said. I probably would've been a lot more upset if I did."
Cooper read aloud apologies from two of the bullies, but Klein was skeptical of their sincerity. "I am so sorry for the way I treated you," Josh writes. "When I saw the video I was disgusted and could not believe I did that. I am sorry for being so mean and I will never treat anyone this way again."
But Klein says Josh has a history of bad behavior, and doesn't really accept the apology.

A recently discovered YouTube video of 68-year-old hearing-impaired school bus monitor Karen Klein being harassed and abused by middle school age boys recently went viral. When watching the ten-minute profanity-ridden video, any sane, compassionate person would despair -- we had to turn it off after less than one minute.
Klein, whose job it is to make sure that children don't fight or endanger themselves on their bus to and from their school in Greece, NY, sits quietly as students call her fat, accuse her of pedophilia, tell her she's poor, and tell her that her son, who committed suicide ten years ago, killed himself because he didn't want to be near her. A giggling boy jabs her in the arm with a book as he ridicules her weight.
