Katie Featherston a.k.a. Katie from "Paranormal Activity" becomes one of Hollywood's fastest rising stars of 2009 thanks to the horror film.
Now, an indie horror flick that she starred in called "Walking Distance" has undergone a name change to "Experimental Activity."
You gotta be kidding me!
But, the name change sort of makes sense because the film is about a small town that is subject to a government medical experiment.
Although we all know that the name change is because of the hit film "Paranormal Activity."
"Experimental Activity" also stars Adrienne King from the first two "Friday the 13th" films from the 80s. »

Once upon a time, there was an indie horror flick called Walking Distance, about a small town where weird government experiments happen. It starred Friday the 13th's (and Friday the 13th Part 2's!) Adrienne King, plus a bunch of other people you probably don't know. Or didn't until one of said people, Katie Featherston, became an overnight sensation thanks to Paranormal Activity. So how might Walking Distance's distribution company celebrate this unexpected windfall? Change the movie's name to...Experimental Activity. Get it? Of course you do. "Walking Distance could be any genre and that is confusing for »

Just yesterday I contacted director Mel House to find out if Katie Featherston from Paranormal Activity was having any impact on his film Walking Distance, and it turns out she did. Showcase Entertainment has acquired the international rights to the film that has now been retitled Experimental Activity, a very obvious cash-in attempt on Paranormal Activity's success. Showcase president David Jackson said, "clearly having the fastest-rising star in the business is a feather in the cap, but we feel the film stands on its own as a cool psychological thriller." House shot Walking Distance before Activity became a huge hit, making it impossible for him to know how important casting Featherston would eventually be. Like many small horror directors House was originally relying on genre vets like Adrienne King, Reggie Bannister, and Debbie Rochon to help sell the film. Congratulations to Mel for catching a break, and hopefully he »

This news is genuinely surprising to us. According to The Hollywood Reporter, filmmaker Mel House's indie horror flick Walking Distance has undergone a title change just on the cusp of this week's Afm. It'll now be called Experimental Activity , no doubt to capitalize on the involvement of actress Katie Featherston, one of the two leads of Paranormal Activity . According to the post, Showcase Entertainment has acquired the international rights to Experimental Activity . "Clearly having the fastest-rising star in the business is a feather in the cap, but we feel the film stands on its own as a cool psychological thriller," Showcase president David Jackson said. This film also marks the return of actress Adrienne King in front of the camera, making this her first... »

The success of Paranormal Activity was bound to change a lot of things. Who knew it would even lead to the change in film title for Mel House's Walking Distance?
According to The Hollywood Reporter Mel House's indie horror movie Walking Distance, which is currently in post-production, has undergone a title change to Experimental Activity, due in part we're sure to the fact that one of its actors, Katie Featherston, is now exploding thanks to Paranormal Activity.
Showcase Entertainment has acquired international rights to Experimental Activity, which revolves around a small town that is subject to a government medical experiment.
"Clearly having the fastest-rising star in the business is a feather in the cap, but we feel the film stands on its own as a cool psychological thriller," Showcase president David Jackson said.
Sigh. Yay Hollywood. The film also stars genre favorites Adrienne King, Reggie Bannister, Debbie Rochon, »

Only in Hollywood, sigh. The indie horror movie Walking Distance, currently in postproduction, has undergone a name change to Experimental Activity now that one of its actors, Katie Featherston, has gone on to star in the the current theatrical hit Paranormal Activity. Showcase Entertainment has acquired international rights to "Experimental Activity," which revolves around a small town that is subject to a government medical experiment. "Clearly having the fastest-rising star in the business is a feather in the cap, but we feel the film stands on its own as a cool psychological thriller," Showcase president David Jackson said. The film also features Adrienne King, who appeared in the 1980 version of "Friday the 13th" and its first sequel, Glenn Morshower, who's been seen as Secret Service agent Aaron Pierce on "24," and horror vet/scream queen Debbie Rochon. »

Given man's unwavering fascination with woman, it's no surprise that the female star acts as the anchor to a dominant portion of horror pictures. I mean really, who wants to see a bare chested man tearin ass through the woods screaming at the top of his lungs while a bladed assailant nips at his heels? I don't - I know that much, although I'm certain there are plenty of men who would disagree (and that's okay with me, to each his own!). The simple fact remains however, women bring a unique appeal and certain sensual atmosphere to film that no man ever could. And it's not all about gratuitous T&A.
There's a comforting quality in the hands of the heroine; a fascinating maternal strength that, as a man I cannot genuinely relate to. I can however admire, and in many cases it's nearly impossible to not admire the lone »

Teenagers looking to have some pre-marital sex, underage drinking and illicit substances are urged to avoid The Burbank Airport Marriott Hotel & Convention Center at all costs this Saturday and Sunday. Those activities are frowned upon by a certain homicidal, hockey mask-wearing zombie. That zombie is in town, because The Hollywood Collectors Show will be holding a "Jasonpalooza" featuring seven Jason Voorhees from the unkillable Friday The 13th franchise.
The gruesome guests include Jason #1, Ari Lehman, Warrington Gillette and Steve Dash ("Baghead Jason"), John Hock, Dick Weiand, Tom Morga, Richard Brooker, Ken Kirzinger, and the great Kane Hodder, among other Friday faces.
To show there's no hard feelings between them and their former stalker, Adrienne King and Darcy DeMoss will also be in attendance. (Darcy is also arguably the most impressive kill in the series, when Jason V. slams her head into a wall, leaving her impression on an Rv in Jason Lives! »

Fango Radio’s own Debbie Rochon, who’s beginning her stint on Gregory Lamberson’s Slime City Massacre (see our last item on the one here) this week, took a moment to share her thoughts on two other new projects she’s involved with. She recently signed to co-star in the Lone Star State project Imago, and also gave us a few words on James Morgart’s Won Ton Baby!
Imago, the next feature by Walking Distance and Closet Space’s Mel House (here serving as producer as well as scripter with director Christopher Warren; see our previous story here), casts Rochon opposite Nightmare On Elm Street 4 and 5’s Lisa Wilcox. “I was so happy when Mel invited me to be a part of Imago,” she tells us. “I was very happy with how things came together, and the amazing talent in front of and behind the camera that I worked with on Walking Distance, »

Here is a clip from Mel House's Walking Distance that stars Reggie Bannister, Adrienne King and Debbie Rochon. Synopsis: A idyllic, small, self-sufficient community. On the surface, it seems like the perfect neighborhood. Everything you could possibly need is within walking distance. But... the pastoral exterior conceals a dark past and an even darker secret. As a group of individuals - each with their own ties and agendas with the town and each other - converges on the enclave, strange things begin to happen. Very strange things. Strange enough to test - and then break - the very fabric of reality itself. »

Yesterday, the Blu-ray editions of Friday The 13th Parts 2 & 3 were released, so in addition to reviewing those I thought I’d go for the trifecta and take a look back at the recently released Blu-ray version of the original film, which featured the much heralded “Uncut” version in all it’s high-def glory.
As far as the films themselves, I’ll stay away from giving yet another subjective opinion on their status as cinema classics, and instead focus on the quality of the Blu-Ray presentation and extra features included with the releases. All three are well-done 1080p transfers, and gave me a completely new appreciation for the format (in regards to older, low budget horror films). Although the films (in particular Part 1) are still a bit rough-looking due to budget and the technology available at the time they were shot, these transfers really bring new life to the gory goings on at Camp Crystal Lake. »

Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery. Friday the 13th made a bushel full of money and the quickest way to cash in on it again was to make a sequel. Part 2 pretty much remade the first one, but Jason was given star billing (wearing a flour sack). Years have passed and Alice (Adrienne King) is recovering from her terrors at Camp Crystal lake. She.s then stalked by an intruder, discovers that something has gone bad in her fridge, and then joins her friends in the grave as the intruders kills her. Near the abandoned Camp Crystal lake camp, a group of counselors, Sandra (Marta Kober), Jeff (Bill Randolph), Terry (Kirsten Baker), Mark (Tom McBride), Vicki »

No, it’s not Microsoft’s follow-up to Windows Vista – it’s the 2009 Crypticon being held at the Seattle Center June 5th through June 7th!
This annual event, which brings a much needed horror convention to the Pacific Northwest, seems to be growing in both size and popularity. No wonder with guests like this year’s line-up.
On hand to meet and greet fans will be everyone’s favorite desert dweller Michael Berryman, the always adorable Adrienne King, the hyper Lloyd Kauffman, sphere warrior Reggie Bannister, Antonio Bay’s #1 DJ Adrienne Barbeau, Tom Freaking Atkins, director Don Coscarelli and many, many more. I know you all have been waiting in stitches for Part 2 of my not so in-depth coverage of Texas Frightmare Weekend 2009 (read part 1 here). Well, boils & ghouls the wait is…over. The reason for the delay has been the fact that I have been repeatedly reassured that footage I shot for the Convention (where I attempted to be an on camera host in order to interview rockabilly goth girls) would be edited and sent my way. Unfortunately, dear readers that has not occurred. I will never outsource to India again!
So, where to begin…we arrived at the Sheraton Grand in the ultimate party van (that you may remember from the last entry) a little later than expected. We had to swing by a certain company that may or may not be being audited by the IRS to pick up some 12 foot speaker trusses and then hop, skip and jump »

Icons Of Fright has been provided with an exclusive behind the scenes look at the making of Walking Distance, the new film written & directed by Mel House. This clip debuted last month at both the La Fango convention (see report Here!) and at Texas Frightmare weekend, but now you can watch it below!
Written & directed by Mel House, Walking Distance stars Adrienne King (her first on screen appearance since Friday The 13th Part 2!), Reggie Bannister (Phantasm), Denton Blane Everett, (former Fango "Spooks Model") Shannon Lark, Debbie Rochon & James Lamarr. Make sure to check out exclusive pictures from the La Fango panel at our previous news post Here! More on Walking Distance when we hear it! »

The first panel to kick off the 2009 Fangoria Weekend Of Horrors was a special preview of Walking Distance, which took place Friday, April 17th. On hand were stars Adrienne King, Reggie Bannister, Denton Blane Everett, (former Fango"Spooks Model") Shannon Lark, producer/star James Lamarr and writer/director Mel House.
The group had prepped a nice behind the scenes featurette to debut exclusively for the Fango crowd, but technical difficulties wouldn't allow the disc to play! The trailer wouldn't play either, but thankfully, fans & attendee's were able to visit the Walking Distance table in the vendor's room all weekend and see both previews at the table.
House began by telling us the origins of this project, his 4th film and I confessed that even though I've seen 2 trailers and a behind the scenes featurette, I'm still not completely sure what this movie is about, which he took as a major compliment. »

This upcoming weekend marks the return of the Texas Frightmare Weekend in Dallas, Texas, and while our staffer Phil Fasso always makes the effort to hit up this particular convention, he sent along this message to our fellow Icons readers -
"Regrettably I won't be able to make my planned trip to the Dallas are for this weekend's Texas Frightmare Weekend, but that shouldn't stop you horror fans from going. Tfw is the largest con in the area, and this year offers some great guests to Texans, such as Alice Cooper, Tobe Hooper, C.J. Graham, the great Dick Miller, the cast of Laid to Rest, and Icon's own John Toranni, many of whom will make their first appearance in the area (incidentally, Toranni is listed as a Texas filmmaker, but he's actually a fellow Long Islander). Last year's Tfw was one of the greatest cons I've ever been to, »
