Minnie Driver has revealed why she chose to star in BBC's new drama The Deep. The actress told What's On TV that she knew straight away reading the script that she wanted the role as Frances Kelly, who captains the submarine on its mission. "I don’t really think about whether something is film or television when choosing a project," she said. "It's all about the right script for me and as soon as I started reading this I thought, 'Wow, this actually reads like a film'. The plot is truly mysterious and takes some very unexpected turns. Minnie Driver has revealed that her character Frances Kelly in new BBC thriller The Deep reminds her of Ripley from the Alien film franchise. The actress explained to The Scotsman that she was drawn to the project by the strong characters in the original script. "[Frances] reminded me so much of Ripley in Alien, and the whole thing was like The Abyss and State Of Play, action films and political thrillers," said Driver.
