The Avengers: Infinity War trailer draws inspiration from multiple eras of Marvel Universe history. Here's a breakdown...
The first trailer for Avengers: Infinity War is here, and it is jammed with new information, new characters, and new looks! So while this isn't quite a shot by shot breakdown (Look at Iron Man's head. Back and to the left. Back, and to the left...wait, wrong movie), we're pretty sure we've got everything you need to get a better handle on what's going on in the biggest, most cosmic Marvel movie of them all.
In case you haven't watched it yet (or just want to watch it again), here's that Avengers: Infinity War trailer...

This past week was quite busy. President Trump pushed back against a “so-called” judge, Melissa McCarthy nailed Sean Spicer on SNL, the Patriots pulled off a record-breaking upset that would have never happened if they were playing the Giants, and it was announced that Aspen Comics would be creating new comic with Scott Lobdell writing a black trans woman titled No World. As much as I’d like to hit on all of these topics, I’m going to focus on No World.
So let’s get into it. Aspen’s new comic is a team book. It will have characters from Soulfire, Executive Assistant, Dellec, as well as some new characters. Lobdell described one of the new characters as “Former NFL. 6’5. 250lbs. She’s here. She’s trans. She’s gonna kick evil’s ass!” You can see that Tweet here. We still don’t have a name or...

Before I go into this week’s column, I wanted to acknowledge the passing of Carrie Fisher. Mere hours after my column went up last week it was reported that she had passed. It was truly tragic for her family, friends and legions of fans whom include myself. Rest in peace, Carrie Fisher.
Last week I picked Love Is Love, the joint DC Comics and Idw publication to raise money for Equality Florida benefiting the victims of the Pulse Nightclub mass shooting. I had written about this book’s announcement back in September and how it filled me with pride that this was happening, but that comics still has more to do towards creating stronger queer inclusion. Now that the trade is out and I got the chance to read it, I have more to say.
This charity project organized by Marc Andreyko was originally a joint project with DC Comics and Idw.

Yesterday we covered our teams picks for DC Comics and Marvel Comics. Today we venture out into the vast world of independent comics, which pretty much covers the rest of the comic book industry. What makes this interesting is that a lot of these independent books are creator’s “passion projects” just take a moment and look at all the amazing books that Image as well as Aftershock comics are putting out month to month. Comic books like this usually are amazing due to the fact that you can see how much the creative teams enjoy working on the book. Here are some of our favorites for 2016:
Favorite Independent Comics Books:

This past week has been an interesting one for me as far as comics are considered. I finally finished Tom King’s twelve issue run on The Vision – easily one of my favorite comics that Marvel has put out in a long time, and that’s something I never thought I’d say about a comic starring The Vision. If you haven’t read it, do yourself a favor. A friend of mine wrote this about it a while back if you’d like to read up on it more first.
I finally started reading Jeff Lemire’s Trillium after putting that off for years. It’s a great read.
I also went through some of my piles of comics here and rediscovered my copy of Vertigo Jams. This comic, which was put out by Vertigo back in 1993, featured original eight page comics from the different creative teams; something I...

As you undoubtedly know, San Diego’s Comic-Con International happened this past weekend, and I was fortunate to be amongst the tens of thousands of attendees. There was, as always, a mega-ton to see and do, and it was hard to keep the Fomo (Fear Of Missing Out) from getting completely out of control over the 4.5 days of the con. To stay sane, though, at some point you just have to accept that you’re going to miss a bunch, and focus on what you do have the opportunity to see.
This year, one of my main interests was what Nickelodeon was showcasing. Of course, Nickelodeon is always on my radar, and particularly the current Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles animated series, which I adore. But even beyond the coolness that is the Tmnt, this year, Nickelodeon was focusing on its past – in the best way possible. Through its late-night programming block of “The Splat,...

Today I’m going to diverge a bit from my usual spiel, but not by much. Oh, who the hell am I kidding? This is pretty much par for the course at this point.
Last week millions of us bore witness to the Republican National Convention, a subsidiary of Trump. One of the points that was made throughout the convention was how they had speakers of all different backgrounds at one point or another, despite the overall representation being very white. Since representation is something I’ve dedicated a lot of my time and energy into for this column, I feel that I should address this and how it parallels representation in comics and other media.
Starting on July 18th and going through the 21st, overlapping with San Diego Comic Con, the Republican National Convention rolled out many women speakers, Hispanics, black men, and even a gay man. Sure, Peter...

The Heroes in a Half Shell have made their way to Comic-Con! While you wait for tomorrow’s Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles panel - which is sure to be exciting - Nickelodeon has debuted the first of three animated shorts, which lets you see the Turtles like you’ve never seen them before. The first short down below was created by Jhonen Vasquez (designer for Invader Zim and Randy Cunningham: 9th Grade Ninja), and is titled “Don Vs Raph!” In this short, Donatello and Raphael wage war with one another and won't stop until one of them wins. Which Turtle will come out on top in a battle that even Shredder won't interfere with? Watch the short for yourself to find out! As Comic-Con rolls on, Nickelodeon will debut two more animated Tmnt shorts. One of the two that will be released is created by Paul Jenkins (The Spectacular Spider-Man) and Tmnt creator Kevin Eastman,...

For this column, I have questions but no answers.
I realize this is a form of slacking. As a weekly contributor to ComicMix, I’m supposed to have the authority and gravitas that justifies the esteem in which I’m held by my colleagues, as well as the salary I’m paid. No answers, no paycheck.
Last week, my pal, Joe Corallo, wrote an impassioned column about Alters, a new series from AfterShock Comics about a group of superheroes that includes a transgender character. Joe was interested in the title but he confessed to a degree of fatigue caused by stories written by cis people about transitioning.
We met for tequila last week and talked about his column. While I hear his point, I think storytellers should tell the stories they want to tell. At the same time, audiences, of course, can ask for the kind of stories they want.

Last week it was announced that Aftershock Comics will be launching a new superhero series in September named Alters. The series will be seasoned comic writer Paul Jenkins’ second title with Aftershock, and it’s drawn by Leila Leiz. Though it will feature a few different kinds super powered humans, referred to as Alters in this world, the central character currently getting all the buzz is Chalice.
The gravity manipulating Chalice will be joining the ranks of characters like Coagula on the incredibly and embarrassingly short list of trans superheroes in comics. The hook for Chalice is that while Chalice presents as female, her civilian alter ego presents as male under the name Charlie Young. At the start of the story, Charlie is a college student who is currently transitioning in secret to Charlie’s family, though some friends may be aware. We just don’t have all the details on that yet.

Jonjo Shelvey will travel to Newcastle on Tuesday for a medical after the Magpies agreed a £12 million deal with relegation rivals Swansea City, according to reports.
The 23-year-old international midfielder had fallen down the pecking order in South Wales, but he looks set to get his career back on track and stake his claim to make England’s Euro 2016 squad.
The Magpies have already tied up a £5 million deal for French midfielder Henri Saivet as boss Steve McClaren looks to strengthen his squad in order to avoid the drop.
Shelvey will operate in the centre of midfield, throwing Cheick Tiote’s future into doubt, with some reports claiming that Shanghai Shenhua have tabled an £8 million bid for his services.
But regardless of what happens with Tiote, Newcastle have almost certainly got their man, Shelvey. The former-Liverpool academy product has been capped 6-times for England under Roy Hodgson,...

In the world of comic books, sometimes ideas that at first seem really controversial or asinine turn out to be great ideas that push the series in exciting and new directions. Despite all the death threats that they received for it, giving Spider-Man the black symbiote suit was probably the second best idea that ever hit the Spider-Man franchise.[1] Likewise, having Cyclops embark on a psycho-sexual tryst with Emma Frost initially seemed like heresy, but that lone act refreshed the franchise for another five years.[2] Other times, ideas that seem crappy and stupid turn out to be just that. What makes matters worse is when a company like Marvel or DC tries to mine gold from that pile of shit without realizing they’re elbow deep in a pile of clichéd, unarticulated horseshit.
Some ideas are just bad from the get go, like Spider-Man sacrificing his marriage, or getting rid of Mr.

Newcastle United’s naive performance in their 2-0 loss to Swansea City highlighted a hidden ignorance unearthed by their muddled point against Southampton last weekend – and the footballing pundits have lambasted them for that.
The Swans had a philosophy and the players executed it perfectly, whereas Steve McClaren’s side hopelessly tried to emulate their opponents’ possession-based system despite having neither. The Magpies’ nervous attempts at splitting the centre-backs and replacing them with Vurnon Anita looked extremely raw and, even prior to Daryl Janmaat’s inexcusable sending-off, they were outclassed by Garry Monk’s well-oiled unit.
Surprisingly Janmaat hadn’t done his homework last week despite Jefferson Montero’s exceptional performance against Chelsea’s Branislav Ivanovic being reported almost as much as the situation with the Blues’ club doctor. The Dutch defender simply couldn’t handle the Swansea winger’s pace and, after being humiliated by...
