Is Richard Osman’s House of Games the perfect teatime quiz show? It’s certainly in contention. Silly, funny and warm, it makes very good company. The armchairs exude a sense of convivial relaxation. There are no flashing-lights podiums or tense burden of cash prizes, making it a wholly gentler experience than, say, The Chase. It keeps the same four contestants all week long, meaning that the kind of rapport other quiz shows try to manufacture in rapid-fire Q&As with the host can naturally develop. The personalities and relationships are almost as important as the rounds and questions, and it’s all done with a sense of humour – from the deliberately naff 1970s gameshow-style fondue sets and carriage clock prizes, to the enjoyable silliness behind almost every round.
To celebrate the new series airing now on weekdays at 6pm on BBC Two, here are a few fun titbits about the show.

Channel 4 is set to air a new documentary that will show a woman’s body being dissected.
The programme, titled My Dead Body, will mark the first time a named donor has been dissected on TV.
My Dead Body will chart the life, death and autopsy of Toni Crews, a mother of two who died of cancer in 2020 at the age of 30.
The series will be narrated in her own words, and shows the dissection in a series of educational workshops intended to educate viewers on the “science of cancer”.
Crews was diagnosed with cancer of the tear gland in 2016, a rare form of the disease which led to her eye being removed. In 2020, she was informed that her condition was terminal.
Agreeing to donate her body to medical science, Crews also consented to it being placed on public display. Earlier this year, she became the first British cadaver...

Having appeared in everything from EastEnders to Mission: Impossible, the versatile character actor is also famous for being nice and he’s ready to spill the beans
British actors don’t come more versatile than Eddie Marsan. You may remember him from when he played a henchman opposite Tom Cruise in Mission: Impossible III, the Sherlock-consulting Inspector with Robert Downey Jr in Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows, or as one of Simon Pegg’s last surviving pub-crawlers in The World’s End.
On TV, Marsan moved up through The Bill, Casualty, EastEnders, to older brother Terry Donovan in all seven series of Ray Donovan. In April, he starred in The Thief, His Wife and the Canoe, about the man who infamously reappeared five and a half years after he faked his own death in a canoeing accident.

Chicago – Part James Bond, part absurdist adventure, “Kingsman: The Secret Service” is nonetheless a romp, with Colin Firth handling the Brit spy role with a natural aplomb. If the notion of a super secret rogue spy agency under a London tailor shop is something that sounds intriguing, that doesn’t even begin to tell the tale.
Rating: 3.5/5.0
This is an origin story adapted from a comic book, so the recruits have to be gathered, and the roots of the Kingsmen must be extrapolated, but that is as interesting as the main case. Colin Firth gets to kick some ass, which is appropriate because the director adapting the film is Matthew Vaughn, who directed the first “Kick-Ass” movie. As in the previous film there is graphic, cartoony violence and sharp cinematic work, and Vaughn revels in keeping the characters under his care a bit on edge. Even the old veteran Michael Caine – as the senior Kingsman,...

Eggsy’s Game: Vaughn’s Hyperviolent Reinterpretation of the Super Spy Caper
While a release in February doesn’t speak highly of Twentieth Century Fox’s hopes for the beginning of a new, lucrative franchise, it seems the studio is attempting a bit of reverse psychology with its release of Matthew Vaughn’s clumsily titled Kingsman: The Secret Service. Bringing back farfetched ridiculousness to the super spy genre, Vaughn is going for a dirty, sexy, funny version of the antics usually on display in James Bond (and it features two cast members from Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy….though comparison with that title ends there). Viciously, even shockingly violent at times for a studio feature, there’s a certain amount of refreshment to be had from Vaughn’s decidedly adult treatment of material that was originally the comic book “The Secret Service.” But its inescapable layers of self-awareness, paired with its...

'Colin Firth vs Scum'. In an alternate reality, we'd like to think this movie was given that iconic title. Especially as its most joyous scene involves the former Mr Darcy tackling a pub full of rampaging thugs armed with just an umbrella – and without even one of his immaculately groomed hairs coming out of place or a single expletive emitting from lips that wouldn't scowl if you offered them a blank cheque. The Firth doesn't do disheveled or uncivilised, for as we learn from his character - 'manners maketh man'.
We also discover that the creative forces behind Kick-Ass maketh another belter that puts a dynamic twist on a well-worn genre. Boasting immense performances from Firth as an aristocratic agent and...

It's just one week until the nation's biggest telly stars turn out for the TV BAFTAs, and in between prepping their acceptance speeches and practising their fake laughs for Graham Norton's opening monologue, they've also got to sort out their look for the red carpet.

What outfits, hairdos and makeup will the stars be rocking on the red carpet next Sunday (May 18)?
Of course, with any red carpet, the focus is on what the celebrity attendees are wearing. Backstage, it's the same story - a star's fashion choice will entirely dictate what direction the rest of the styling team go in.

Samantha Womack didn't want her 'EastEnders' character to return as a ''damaged creature''. The 40-year-old actress will reprise her role as Ronnie Mitchell after bowing out of the BBC One soap two years ago following the explosive baby-swap story line, which saw her alter-ego thrown behind bars, but she insists the blonde beauty will step onto the streets of Walford as a changed woman next month. Speaking to Soap Squawk, she said: ''I wanted to make sure there was a change in her. I really didn't want her to return as the same damaged creature she was when she left. ''I think the...

Oh, you lovely Tube Talk Q&A readers - haven't we've got a bit of 'bromance' going on (or, alternatively, a 'friendship' if you're not male or a fan of ridiculous slang).
We love to make you guys happy, which is why we've once again fluttered our eyes at TV bosses around the nation to get you some great scoop on Fresh Meat, True Blood and more. Go on, have a butchers...
Has Fresh Meat got an official air date yet?
Oh good, a Fresh Meat question - we haven't had one of those in a while. Still, we told some Channel 4 PRs recently how our virtual postbag is *always* bulging with your queries about their university sitcom and they were chuffed... so keep 'em coming, we guess... *grouchy face*
The hard truth is that we *do* know roughly when Fresh Meat will be back, but we're not actually allowed to tell you,...

Samantha Womack feels jealous when she watches 'EastEnders'. The 40-year-old actress - who will return to the show this autumn as baby snatcher Ronnie Mitchell after her alter-ego is released from prison - can't bear to watch the BBC One soap following her departure because she feels envious of her former co-stars. She said: ''I've missed her and fans have too. Every day since I left I've had messages saying, 'We miss Ronnie'. I also love thought-provoking drama and 'EastEnders' gave me the chance to do that. ''It was only after that I realised you don't get that anywhere else. It...

'EastEnders' bosses want Barbara Windsor to make a permanent return to the soap. The 75-year-old actress will return to the show - which she quit in 2010 after 16 years - as Walford matriarch Peggy Mitchell for one episode this autumn, but programme chiefs are keen to get her to return on a long-term basis. If she does agree to come back, Barbara will follow in the footsteps of returnees Michael French and Samantha Womack, who are bringing their characters David Wicks and Ronnie Mitchell back to Albert Square. A source said: ''Barbara may only be back for one day but everyone hopes...

Larry Lamb has told Digital Spy that he doesn't expect Gavin & Stacey to return for a new series anytime soon.
The actor - who played Gavin's dad Mick Shipman in the BBC comedy - said that creators Ruth Jones and James Corden are focusing more on the new Us version for the time being.
Speaking at the Arqiva Commercial Radio Awards, he said of the prospects of a new series: "Not a chance in hell.
"They're busy doing an American version of it. I think that's the next time you'll see it."
He also stated that he has "no idea" whether the show will work in America.
Gavin & Stacey has been remade by Fox in the Us under the title Us & Them, with Jason Ritter and Alexis Bledel taking the lead roles.

It's a tough ol' time for the UK sitcom right now - even TV veterans can't seem to crack the genre of late. Ben Elton - he of Blackadder and The Young Ones fame - just spewed out the critically-mauled The Wright Way for BBC One, while over on ITV, luminaries of stage and screen Sir Ian McKellen and Sir Derek Jacobi are about to indulge in the dubious pleasures of Vicious - a catty comedy that feels like it was heading for 1974 and somehow got lost along the way.
The sitcom has always been a tough nut to crack, of course - this country has produced some absolute classics, but also some absolute stinkers. This week's Friday Fiver is all about the misfires, the failures, the disasters.
Heard the phrase "So bad it's good"? Well, this bunch of 'comedies' were just plain bad.

Ex-EastEnders star Nigel Harman has been added to the series three cast of Sky Living comedy Mount Pleasant.
Fellow former soap star Samantha Womack will also be joining Harman on the show.
Harman and Womack will play Bradley and Tanya, a "sexy thirty-something couple" who bring some "down South mystique" to the Northern cul-de-sac.
"Bradley's a great character, a real wide boy who's clearly got something to hide. He and Tanya are definitely going to stir things up in Mount Pleasant but whether that's for the better or worse you'll have to wait and see," said Harman.
Samantha Womack added: "I'm thrilled to be joining the cast of Mount Pleasant, such a popular and well-loved series. I can't wait to get stuck into playing the part of Tanya who is sure to create some waves in The Close."
Mount Pleasant's third series will air in the summer on Sky Living.

Former EastEnders star Samantha Womack has landed a role on Mount Pleasant.
The actress - who played Ronnie Mitchell on the BBC soap - told Click Liverpool that she will appear in the third series of Sky Living's comedy drama.
"I begin filming Mount Pleasant for TV alongside Pauline Collins [Sue] in Manchester soon," said Womack. "And there may be a musical towards the end of this year, beginning of next, so that'll keep me busy."
Womack, who left EastEnders in 2011 after four years on the show, revealed that she is eager to move into directing in the future, after shooting an anti-bullying video in 2005.
"There's a film in the back of my mind I'd quite like to get out there and the older you get, the more sort of self-conscious and less comfortable in front of the camera you become," she explained.
