Chris Pratt embodies the world’s most sarcastic yet endearing orange feline in the trailer for “The Garfield Movie,” premiering in theaters on May 24, 2024.
The new animated feature introduces new characters to comic creator Jim Davis’ universe, including Samuel L. Jackson as Vic, Garfield’s father. Both Pratt and Jackson have been honing their voice acting chops, with Jackson playing another animated cat in “Paws of Fury: The Legend of Hank” and Pratt portraying Mario in “The Super Mario Bros. Movie.”
In the trailer for “The Garfield Movie,” Pratt’s lovable fat cat explains how he adopted his owner, John. Before he dives into a tray of lasagna, he warns the audience, “I apologize in advance. The eating you’re about to see will not be pretty. And if you have young children, this would be a good time for them to leave the room.”

Once upon a time, there existed these things called newspapers that showed up at your door in the morning. Inside were news stories about politics, sports, health, and movie listings. They also included comic strips, aka the funny pages. Though the newspaper has gone the way of the dodo, for the most part, some of these comic strip characters still live in our imagination. One of them is a big orange tabby cat named Garfield, who hates mornings and Mondays, loves lasagna, is terrified of spiders, and bullies his doggie housemate Odie.

The world’s most famous fat cat is coming to theaters soon. “Garfield,” an animated film starring Chris Pratt as the famous Jim Davis comic strip character, will premiere in theaters Feb. 16, 2024.
In addition to Pratt, the film will also star Samuel L. Jackson as a brand-new character to the Garfield universe, Vic, who is the father of the orange feline. The plot that will bring Garfield’s father back into his life remains under wraps. Although no other cast members have been announced, the film will presumably feature classic characters from the franchise, including his owner Jon Arbuckle and dim-witted puppy Odie.
The animated movie represents the latest big screen outing for the iconic lasagna-loving misanthrope. Bill Murray famously voiced the character in two live-action and CGI-hybrid films, 2004’s “Garfield: The Movie” and its 2006 sequel “Garfield: A Tail of Two Kitties.” The two films received largely negative reviews, but were both commercially successful.

VFX and animation company Dneg, effects home to the new “Venom” sequel, multiple Marvel movies and more, will not go forward with its planned 1.7 billion Spac deal with Sports Ventures Acquisition Corp., citing “unfavorable” market conditions, the companies announced Thursday.
The companies had announced the plan in January.
“Due to the headwinds in the Spac marketplace and general market volatility, we have decided to terminate our Spac process with Sports Ventures,” said Dneg Chairman and CEO Namit Malhotra. “Alan [Kestenbaum] and the team at Sports Ventures have been great partners in this process, and we wish them well as they move forward.”
The reversal comes amid a sharp downturn in the Spac, or special purpose acquisition company, market. SPACs are created by investor groups solely to acquire or merge with existing private companies to help take them public. The Dneg deal was intended to bring the new combined company to the Nasdaq index.

Tenet and Dune VFX firm Dneg has announced plans to pay overtime to its UK employees in what it calls a “transformative move” that is a departure from industry norms.
The award-winning visual effects specialist and animation studio’s previous overtime policy in the UK mirrored the local industry norm of compensating employees for overtime with paid time off after the completion of a project.
Beginning in October, Dneg says it will pay enhanced overtime to its London employees at a 1.5x rate for all staff in non-management positions and for all incremental time that they are asked to work beyond the standard 40-hour week.
The move brings Dneg’s UK overtime policy in line with its studios in North America and applies across its film and episodic visual effects, Dneg Animation and ReDefine operations, including artist, production, technology and support teams.
