What does Willem Dafoe's junk, a talking fox, and a dead child all have in common? Well, they're going to star in a video game adaptation of Lars von Trier's Antichrist courtesy of Morten Iversen, a developer with some serious credentials in the world of game geekery. Formerly of Io Interactive, Iversen now works at von Trier's Zentropa production company.
Russ Frushtick over at MTV Multiplayer tracked down Iversen to ask him what the hell is up with this project, so to speak, and here's what he had to say.
"Von Trier has been extremely fond of video games for ages, and has been an avid player of 'Alone in the Dark,'" explained Iverson. "He's been circulating the idea internally... that making games would be a good idea." He describes it as "a nightmarish version of 'Myst.'"
("Alone in the Dark"? Really? Come on, Lars!)

Ed McMahon, Rip: The infamous Johnny Carson sidekick has sadly passed away. At the age of 86 Ed McMahon died on June 23rd, 2009 at the Ronald Reagan/UCLA Medical Center. Recently, McMahon has had many health problems, including pneumonia. Not only has the public been made aware in the decline of McMahon’s health, they have also known about his money problems; including his battle to pay his mortgage, costing him approximately $644,000 debt with the bank, and then being sued by numerous insurance companies, which was later reached in a settlement for $7million. Thankfully enough, the public will always remember Ed McMahon as the cheerful and laughable subordinate to Carson. Let’s hear it one last time for remembrance sake: “Heeeeeeeeeeeere’s Johnny!” Antichrist the Video Game: Director Lars Von Trier’s latest flop film that was laughed at during it’s screening at Cannes Film Festival will become a video game.

Yesterday, news was floating around the web about a possible game based on “Antichrist,” a new movie from Lars Von Trier which has received a boatload of controversy. The film, which revolves around a couple staying in a cabin in the woods, is filled with extremely sexual and violent imagery, ranging from the graphic death of a child to close-ups of vaginal insertion and genital mutilation. It’s not, shall we say, for the kids.
Today I had a chance to speak with Morten Iversen, the Game Director behind “Eden,” the title based on “Antichrist.” Iverson is not new to the video game world. He worked at Io Interactive as the writer of the “Hitman” series for six years before forming his own company. When that company went under he joined up with Zentropa, Von Trier’s production company.

Genital mutilation! I know that got your attention. I’m not using as a means of misdirection either. Genital mutilation really does apply to the news I have to share.
You may or may not have heard, but one of the films that generated a lot of buzz at the Cannes International Film Festival this year was director Lars Von Trier’s “Antichrist,” starring Willem Dafoe and Charlotte Gainsbourg. That’s not to say it was well-received. Or poorly received. It was certainly received however, with its shocking depictions of sexuality and graphic violence. How shocking… well let’s just say that I’m not comfortable printing the gory details here.
Now a post on the popular NeoGAF video game message forums points to an article on Politiken.dk [via /Film] which reveals that a video game adaptation of the film is currently in development (translated here). A visit to “Antichrist” producer...

Antichrist, the new movie from Lars Von Trier, was perhaps the most talked-about movie at Cannes this year. It continues to make headlines as it slowly winds towards theatres outside the Croisette and Scandanavian countries. And now, evidently, it is going to spawn a video game. A post on the video game message board NeoGAF led to some wild Googling, which turns up a Politiken.dk article (Google translation, which may contain movie spoilers) announcing the game's development. What's the deal? It's after the jump. According to the article, development on the game is being led by Morten Iversen, who wrote the Hitman games, and subsequently formed his own company, Zeitguyz, which created a game called Recoil: Retrograde. The article mentions Zentropa Eden Games as the developer of the title. Indeed, Iversen is listed as 'game developer' on the main Zentropa website. Lars Von Trier will approve (or not, one supposes,...
