Alanis Morissette offered a rendition of her new song “I Miss the Band” on The Tonight Show, performing virtually from a recording studio. Joined by a pianist, the singer highlighted the track’s emotional vocals, which reflect on missing her touring band.
Morissette released “I Miss the Band” earlier this week along with a music video directed by Victor Indrizzo, which showcases behind-the-scenes footage from past tours. “Deeply yearning to play live music again,” Morissette wrote in the video’s description. “The sweat, the rapture, the movement, the love. Alanis Morissette marks a year without touring with a new song, “I Miss the Band,” that pays tribute to her backing band.
The sweet piano ballad finds Morissette evoking every facet of life on the road, from wondering what city she just arrived in, to the ritual huddle before the show begins, to the blinding stage lights. But much of “I Miss the Band” captures the unique relationship between Morissette and her bandmates, especially the opening lines where she sings, “The inside joke well understood,” she sings, “The nudge nudge...

Alanis Morissette has dropped a cover of John Lennon and Yoko Ono’s 1971 classic “Happy Xmas (War Is Over)” along with an accompanying video.
In the Victor Indrizzo-directed video, Morissette and her family recreate their own bed-in, mirroring Lennon and Ono’s, with their own handwritten “Bed Peace” sign taped behind them as they sing the faithful rendition. The visual is interspersed with clips of her bandmates and their families singing together along with black-and-white snowy scenes of sleigh rides and kids building a snowman.
“It is an honor to cover this heartwarming song.

Melissa Etheridge offers a proud declaration of resilience and self-care on “Faded by Design,” the first single from her upcoming LP, The Medicine Show.
“You wanna change me, don’t bother, ’cause I can read the signs,” she sings over a tough-sounding chord progression. “Just rearrange me, don’t call the doctor — the cure is in my mind.”
Starting out with a folky acoustic-guitar riff, the song builds to an upbeat chorus, with Etheridge letting out a triumphant “Oh, yeah,” before singing, “I’m feeling all my angels — I’m faded by design.
