Yesterday, we shared with you that we are very close to announcing the winner of our Dark-web Call-for-Submission. The response has been outstanding and the quality and talent of all the participating writers has made it very difficult to select a winning script! Today, we want to give credit to the semi-finalist. One of these very talented writers will have the chance to work with the producers and creators of the hit movie Circle and will have their winning script produced and seen my millions of Lrm readers. The formidable Penelope Spheeris penetrates L.A.'s punk and glam rock scenes, connecting with surly malcontents that would greet a normal docu with flipped fingers and snarled four-letter words. The result is much more than a collection of rare music performances. Things are as loud, as profane and as twisted as ever. The Decline of Western Civilization + The Decline of Western Civilization Part II The Metal Years Blu-ray Shout! Factory Color Street Date March 4, 2016 Sold separately 19.98 Written and Directed by Penelope Spheeris

Unless my memory is completely fried, I remember Penelope Spheeris as a busy Ta in the film department at UCLA around 1974-'75. The upstairs editing area had but one pay telephone, and she was on it constantly, making deals. The active and connected Ms. Spheeris was even then something of a celebrity around the department. Years later her connections with various L.A.

Fans of '70s punk and '80s heavy metal have long held Penelope Spheeris' "The Decline of Western Civilization" movies as sacred texts. The first ‘Decline,’ released in 1981, is a vital document of the Los Angles punk scene, with performances by X, the Germs, the Circle Jerks, Fear and Black Flag. The music in ‘Part II: The Metal Years’ is less enduring, but the portrait of striving metalheads bent on success has a striking poignancy: You may not remember W.A.S.P.'s Spandex-clad hair metal, but you'll never forget Spheeris' interview with guitarist Chris Holmes, who floats drunkenly in a pool and douses himself in vodka while his elderly mother looks on blankly from the sidelines. The previously rare ‘Decline III’ takes that anthropological approach to the next level, focusing on L.A. gutter punks who beg for change by day and rock out by night.

Daft Punk followed their Grammy wins for album and record of the year with an exclusive, star-studded dance party at the Park Plaza Hotel on Sunday night. The electronic duo took over two floors of the venue for a bash that featured a light-up disco dance floor and multiple open bars, serving Perrier-Jouet champagne and Red Bull. The A-list crowd consisted of everyone from Madonna to Stevie Wonder to Jay Z and Beyonce to Paul McCartney, all of whom grooved in celebration with the band. London, Apr 7: An employee from Sawston, Cambridgeshire stunned his bosses with bizarre resignation letter iced on to a cake.
Chris Holmes, an immigration officer for Border Force at Stansted Airport, handed in his resignation on a cake, beautifully piped in neat black letters on a flawless page of white royal icing, the Guardian reported.
Addressing his letter "To The Management", Holmes writes in upright and looping script: "Having recently become a father I now realise how precious life is and how important it is to spend my time doing something that makes me, and other people, happy. For that reason, I hereby give notice of my resignation, in order that I may devote my time and energy to my family, and my cake business."

With "Rock of Ages" thundering through theaters on Friday, the retro spotlight will once again shine on the crazy '80s, the decade of decadence when rock stars were true rock stars and unapologetic about being so.
In anticipation of the nostalgia this will inspire, we're looking at nine hard-rock and heavy-metal films that have made noise in the mainstream. Horns up!
9. 'Detroit Rock City' (1999)
While a majority of teen flicks tend to focus on love, partying and sex, 'Detroit Rock City' has a singular directive -- getting four teenage Kiss fanatics to a concert after one of their mothers burns their tickets and banishes her son to Catholic school. Naturally that's not going to stop them, and once reunited, the four garage bandmates (including Edward Furlong) go on a wild road trip that involves drugs, fights, a botched mugging and robbery, a strip club contest and other ridiculous situations.

I just finished the main story for Red Dead Redemption last night and I was rightly satisfied and definitely want to go back and play through again. I’m sure being an outlaw and not being pursued by police on a near constant basis had something to do with it, but I digress. Something I was very impressed with while playing through the game was the music selection and cues, especially when you enter Mexico for the first time. If you feel the same way, well you’ll be glad to know you’ll be able to purchase the soundtrack of the game on iTunes right now.
Composers Bill Elm and Woody Jackson did a fantastic job capturing that dying old West and Mexico feel and reflected it in the score. 15 instrumental tracks are included on the soundtrack, produced by David Holmes (Ocean’s 11/12/13) and vocal tracks from Jamie Lidell,...

The DVD format is over a decade old now - so what's holding up the disc release of these 15 films?
Good old DVD - it rose from nowhere a decade ago and offered us unrivalled picture quality, amazing special features, supersharp sound, and films the way they were meant to be seen. (Sound familiar?)
Soon, the VHS tape, bulky, prone to rewinding, fast forwarding, tape lag, and degradation with repeated use, was obsolete. Who can forget the original VHS tapes of Ghostbusters, watched so many times it started to look like a Swedish TV broadcast recorded from a ship in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean? And then there was the upgrading, rebuying your library over the course of a few years, with each double-dip special edition. Evil Dead 2 has been released in seven different versions in the UK alone.
But not everything made it to DVD, and plenty of it never will.

Michael Jackson: The Remix Suite is due in October.

Blink-182's Mark Hoppus has done production work for Motion City Soundtrack and All Time Low and remixes for Fall Out Boy, so he's become more than adept at twiddling a knob or two. But when he was approached by the people at Motown Records about a new remix project, well, his hands were almost too shaky to twiddle anything.
"Motown reached out to a bunch of different artists and producers to remix Michael Jackson and Jackson 5 songs, and they're taking about 15 of those tracks and putting them out on iTunes, as kind of like a tribute," Hoppus told MTV News on Tuesday. "And I don't know how I was lucky enough to get involved in the project — it's a huge honor — because somehow they want me to remix 'ABC' by the Jackson 5.
