Spoiler Alert: This interview contains light spoilers for stunt sequences from “The Fall Guy,” in theaters now.
Leaping from a high-flying helicopter, being engulfed in flames, and rolling a car over eight and a half times—while these heart-stopping moments may be the stuff of nightmares for most, they’re just another day on the job for the daredevil stunt performers at the heart of David Leitch’s “The Fall Guy.”
Ryan Gosling’s Colt Seavers is repeatedly put through the wringer in Universal’s action comedy based on the 1980s TV series of the same name. Lucky for the Oscar-nominated actor, a team of pros was there to do the heavy lifting.
Logan Holladay, who performed driving stunts (and set a Guinness world record), Ben Jenkin, who willingly got lit on fire and hit by a car, and Troy Brown, who plummeted 150 feet for an epic fall, sat down...

Insight into The Fall Guy’s Death-Defying Stunts In the world of Hollywood action blockbusters, stunt performers play a pivotal role, often overshadowed by the bright lights cast on A-list celebrities. In The Fall Guy, this blend of danger and precision in stuntwork takes center stage. Starring Ryan Gosling and directed by David Leitch, the film includes some of the most thrilling action sequences designed in recent cinema. Like many who dare to perform cinematic stunts, Logan Holladay, the stuntman who executed some of the film’s most jaw-dropping maneuvers, broke a Guinness World Record for the highest number of cannon rolls

Movies these days are more of a production than a simple story led by a cast. If there is no pomp and circus around it, chances are, it won’t do much business. Even with some really popular names attached to projects, sometimes that is not enough. And Ryan Gosling and Emily Blunt starrer The Fall Guy is a prime example of that.

Sometimes, even if a movie has good reviews and high critic scores, people tend to wait for it to get to streaming services to watch it, rather than buying tickets for the theaters. And this is the biggest issue with today’s industry. Most movies go to streaming, even if it is a year later, and people are willing to wait for them. The Fall Guy Stunt Precision and Record Breakthrough In the world of cinematic stunts, few films have pushed the envelope as effectively as The Fall Guy. At the center of these gravity-defying feats is Logan Holladay, a stuntman who not only worked alongside notable actor Ryan Gosling, but also made history by executing a spectacular record-breaking stunt. Holladay’s achievement in the film was no small feat. During one of the film’s climax scenes, Holladay was responsible for a car cannon roll that went beyond expectations. I had a pretty good feeling that I had broken the record because it felt

To understand the love letter that is “The Fall Guy” — a passion project of former stunt performer turned A-list action director David Leitch — consider that Drew Pearce couldn’t write the script until Leitch identified the old-school stunts that would serve as its centerpieces.
IndieWire talked to Leitch and stunt designer Chris O’Hara about four of those jaw-dropping action scenes: the record-breaking cannon roll on the beach, the 225-foot car jump, the helicopter high-fall, and the boat jump. The personal and creative stories of how they came about are almost as gripping as the scenes themselves.
The Cannon Roll
After his accident, stunt double Colt Seavers’ (Ryan Gosling) first stunt is a big one: an explosion that sends his Jeep into a cannon roll. It was so big that Gosling’s own stunt double, Logan Holladay (who is seen on screen buckling Gosling into the Jeep), broke the Guinness World Record with eight-and-half rolls.

On Saturday, WeAreMovieGeeks.com got a sneak peek at the Fall Guy Stuntacular at Universal Studios Hollywood. Based on the upcoming reboot of the 80’s classic TV series, The Fall Guy Stuntacular is a limited running show at the popular movie theme park. Presented just before the Water World stunt show at Universal, this new show features many of the big stunts from the movie. And as if that wasn’t enough, Ryan Gosling, star of the new film was on hand to treat the invited audience to the first look at the stunts and the stunt men and women who make it all possible. Gosling called the film, “a love letter to the stunt community” that has been overshadowed for years. Laughs were also abound, as Gosling doubled down on his likeability and comic chops, joking with the crowd and director of the film David Leitch who was also in attendance.

In a scene early in The Fall Guy, a nameless crewmember buckles Ryan Gosling’s seat belt as his character is about to attempt a cannon roll, a classic car stunt, on the set of a fictional science fiction movie called Metal Storm. Gosling plays Hollywood stuntman Colt Seavers, who is reluctantly returning to the film business after an injury, but in many ways the real star of the scene is the background actor buckling him in, Logan Holladay. Though his screen time lasts only a few moments, Holladay was the real-life stunt driver for Gosling — the one who actually steered a Jeep Grand Cherokee down a Sydney beach and rolled it eight and a half times on the sand, breaking the Guinness world record of seven rolls set by Adam Kirley, the driver of James Bond’s Aston Martin in 2006’s Casino Royale.

“The Fall Guy” is set to hit theaters soon, starring Ryan Gosling as Colt Seavers, a down-on-his-luck stuntman. The action-comedy movie also features Emily Blunt and it would be great to have Kitty from “Oppenheimer” star alongside Ken from “Barbie”.

During the last decade, much has been discussed about the stunt department and how the fearless, talented individuals who work in this area deserve more recognition in the film industry. From various movements to creating the respective category in awards ceremonies – unfortunately, the Oscars remain stubborn – to an unmistakable shift in the action genre – nowadays, it’s almost mandatory for an action flick to have an oner – stuntmen and stuntwomen have been increasingly valued with each passing year, so it would be expected that a movie paid them the proper tribute. With one of the most influential voices from the stunt world at the helm, David Leitch (Deadpool 2), The Fall Guy is a true love letter to a unit often overlooked by the general audience. In a mix of mystery, love, and action, Colt Seavers (Ryan Gosling), a stunt double, returns to work after an incident that almost ended his career.

As Ryan Gosling took the mic for a special screening of his latest film “The Fall Guy,” the Oscar nominee was eager to salute the stunt community — in particular, to show off the record-breaking stunt that his double performed.
“There’s a gentleman who buckles me into a car — that’s Logan Holladay — for a stunt he’s about to do,” Gosling told the audience assembled at the Grove in Los Angeles on Wednesday night. “Then he goes on to do eight-and-a-half cannon rolls, which is a world record. And then he pulls me out of the car and pats me on the back for the stunt that he just did.”
That’s what makes “The Fall Guy” unique, Gosling explained. “In any other movie, you wouldn’t know that. But in this movie, you do. The lack of recognition [of] the contribution that they make to cinema, to some of...

The upcoming The Fall Guy, in theaters on May 3rd, and a salute to stunt people, had it’s premiere at SXSW earlier this week.
AP reported:
The SXSW premiere of “The Fall Guy” came with some of its own stunts. A pair of motorcycles sped through the crowds milling outside the Paramount Theater before Blunt and Gosling arrived in the back of a pick-up. Blunt and Gosling weren’t the only ones fresh from the Academy Awards. Leitch and his wife, Kelly McCormick, (a producer on “The Fall Guy”) produced a clip reel of stunts for the telecast. Though stunt performance isn’t an Oscar category (a sore point that comes up in “The Fall Guy”), Leitch thinks it will happen soon.

It's been several days now since this year's Oscars ceremony, and yet I'm still scratching my head as to why the Academy had Ryan Gosling and Emily Blunt present a montage honoring stunts and stunt performers without mentioning why they had selected these two specific actors to do so. Then there's the bitter irony of the Academy celebrating stunt performers while stubbornly refusing to give them an Oscar of their own, but that's a whole other rabbit hole.
While it's true the pair starred in dual halves of Barbenheimer last year, they've also got a new film coming out in "The Fall Guy." Loosely adapted from Glen A. Larson's '80s action-adventure TV series of the same name, the movie casts Gosling as a stuntman who's rapidly aging out of his occupation from years of risking permanent bodily harm, only to find himself unraveling a mystery on the set...

In 99% of Hollywood movies, the goal is to make the stunt work invisible. Audiences are supposed to believe that the star — or better yet, the character he plays — put his own life at risk jumping off buildings, blowing up cars or duking it out with squads of bad guys. In “The Fall Guy,” the stuntman gets to be the hero (of an insanely overcomplicated story), while the star is a prima donna who claims to do all his own stunts but needs his double to step in when things get tough.
“The Fall Guy” is funny, it’s sexy, and it features the boy’s-toy version of “Barbie” scene-stealer Ryan Gosling — which is to say, after playing a Ken doll, now he embodies the ultimate action figure. This is the charisma-radiating side of Gosling audiences love (as opposed to expressionless “Only God Forgives” Gosling), and though his character doesn’t have much depth,...

Ryan Gosling and ‘The Fall Guy’ Director David Leitch Premiere Their “Love Letter” to Stunts at SXSW
Ryan Gosling and director David Leitch brought their ode to stunt performers, The Fall Guy, to the SXSW Film and TV Festival, where it was met with a very warm welcome.
“We hope that it is reflective of how much the crew gives to every single film,” said Gosling on the action rom-com, which had the audience in the Paramount theater constantly applauding.
Gosling plays Colt, a stuntman who, after getting out of the business for a year, is called back into action when the star of a big studio movie suddenly disappears and that big studio movie happens to be directed by his ex (Emily Blunt). Colt gets wrapped up in a murder and cover-up that become much bigger than him or the film he is desperate to get made.
