- Former lead vocalist for Australian rock-pop band, Men at Work.
- Despite being best known for his 4 albums with Men At Work, he released his 13th solo album on March 3rd 2017.
- In February 2009, his former Men at Work band mate, Ronald Strykert, was arrested and taken into custody by Los Angeles police for allegedly making death threats against Hay. Strykert denied the charges.
- Colin's rendition of Where Everybody Knows Your Name (Cheers Theme) in the 2005 Scrubs episode My Life In Four Cameras (s4e17) was removed from later screenings and the DVD release in legal grounds but a bootleg version can be found on his website. He did appear in two other episodes of the show.
- Colin's 2016 tour of Europe to promote his 12th album Next Year People was curtailed, upsetting fans in Germany, so that he could make an appearance on the the Jimmy Fallon chat show which would bring him greater exposure. He made it up to fans by doing a Men At Work tour of Europe 3 years later.
- Colin did a Men At Work tour in Europe in 2019 but the group didn't feature any other original band members The band consisted of his own group of musical associates, most of whom had previously joined him on 15 nights at The Edinburgh Fringe Festival in 2016.
