Exclusive: The Spanish Civil War drama being helmed by The Handmaid’s Tale EP Matthew Hastings has found its scribe.
Irma Correa, whose past credits include Netflix Spain hits Alba and If Only, is penning the drama, which was first revealed by Deadline in 2022 and is produced by My Life with the Walter Boys indie iGeneration Studios.
Inspired by real life events, Villa Paz follows a team of idealistic medics who convert a royal palace into a field hospital. Set in Spain in 1937, an international team of volunteers toil tirelessly at the hospital, as rivalries and relationships imperil their battle to save lives. No network is attached as of yet.
The series was created by iGeneration’s Max Benitz – who starred opposite Russell Crowe in Master and Commander: The Far Side of the World – with Hastings showrunning and directing.
Correa will write, having penned two of Netflix Spain’s biggest series in recent years.

[This story contains spoilers for Loki season two, episode three, “1893.”]
When Loki executive producer Kevin R. Wright began to assemble his creative team for the hit Disney+ series’ second season, he knew that production designer Kasra Farahani was an absolute necessity.
Before crafting the series’ signature look in seasons one and two, Farahani climbed the ranks of Marvel Studios as an art director and a concept artist on various MCU projects such as Thor, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 and Black Panther. He’d even done some writing and directing in between Marvel gigs, so Wright first invited him to join Eric Martin’s writers’ room as a staff writer. That additional role on the show eventually led to a third assignment as director of season two’s third episode, “1893,” which allowed Farahani to design the 1893 World’s Fair in Chicago and introduce this season’s highly anticipated Kang variant, Victor Timely (Jonathan Majors...

Jessica Alexander, who starred in the recent psychological horror movie A Banquet (pictured above) and the dystopian thriller Glasshouse, is now playing the lead role in Fallen, a supernatural series being made for the Brazilian streaming service Globoplay. "Meanwhile, a confrontation with 'Marcel' causes 'Vincent' to reevaluate his decision to stay out of the 'witch' business, as an attempt by 'Hayley' to have a quiet holiday with 'Jackson' and 'Hope' results in an unexpected surprise..."

The Originals, Season 2, Episode 22, “Ashes to Ashes”
Written by Christopher Hollier and Diane Ademu-John
Directed by Matt Hastings
Airs Mondays at 8pm (Et) on The CW
On this week’s The Originals finale, the Mikaelson siblings take a stand against Dahlia, Davina resurrects Esther, Cami and Vincent discuss their lives, and Marcel seeks to protect himself.
For two seasons, The Originals‘s theme has been heavily focused on family, and this is extra apparent in “Ashes to Ashes” as the Mikaelson siblings–despite a heavy lack of trust and an excess of anger–team up to defeat a common enemy. With so much bad behavior by Klaus recently, it’s nice that the show isn’t letting him be redeemed so quickly or easily, and he’s finally being forced to face the consequences of his actions in the form of a broken family.
The most exciting character development during...

The Originals, Season 2, Episode 14, “I Love You, Goodbye”
Written by Michael Narducci and Carina Adly MacKenzie
Directed by Matt Hastings
Airs Mondays at 8pm (Et) on The CW
On this week’s The Originals, Hayley and Jackson tie the knot, Elijah hinders Klaus from murdering Jackson, Hope returns home, and Kol succumbs to Finn’s curse.
“I Love You, Goodbye” would be a relatively flawless episode–emotional and beautiful and well-done–if it weren’t for one fatal flaw: The Originals‘s insistence that death doesn’t mean one is permanently dead and gone. Seriously, the episode is borderline fantastic, and it expertly welds the happy moments with the tragic, until Rebekah insists, as Kol dies, that she will do anything to bring him back. And, looking at the show’s history (even in the episode itself, where someone is literally brought back from the dead), there’s almost no doubt that she will succeed.

The Originals, Season 2, Episode 12, “Sanctuary”
Written by Declan De Barra and Michael Narducci
Directed by Matt Hastings
Airs Mondays at 8pm (Et) on The CW
On this week’s The Originals, Davina and Kol help Aiden find Marcel and Co., Klaus violently confronts Jackson and Hayley, Rebekah meets Freya, and Elijah makes a cameo appearance.
While not as eventful or informative as last week’s episode, “Sanctuary” is still a decent, but not particularly involving, episode of The Originals. To be honest, the episode feels a whole lot like filler, but there are still some gems to be found among the hour, especially in regards to character development and subtle shifts in power–a lot of new knowledge was shared between characters, if not with the audience.

The Originals, Season 2, Episode 6, “Wheel Inside the Wheel”
Written by Michael Narducci and Michael Russo
Directed by Matthew Hastings
Airs Mondays at 8pm Est on The CW
On this week’s The Originals, Klaus searches for Elijah, Hayley teams up with a fellow werewolf to rescue Oliver, Cami discovers Vincent’s true identity, and Esther attempts to bring Klaus to her side.
As per usual this season, “Wheel Inside the Wheel” is another episode stuffed with family drama, bloodshed, and some interesting new revelations, particularly with regard to Esther. The Originals has been handling the Mikaelson’s centuries-long family feud excellently thus far by gradually doling out insight into the various dynamics at play between the characters, and this week’s episode is no exception.
Though the first half of “Wheel Inside the Wheel” is very exposition heavy (much like last week), it quickly intensifies as the latter half of the hour progresses.

Genevieve has Rebekah and Klaus tied up in separate parts of an abandoned hospital. Rebekah has been poisoned with werewolf venom, making her weak, unstable, and easy to torture. Directed by Matthew Hastings
Airs Tuesdays at 8pm Est on The CW
On this week’s The Originals, Rebekah and Klaus suffer at the hands of vengeful witches, Elijah hunts for his siblings with Hayley and Marcel’s help, and the witches prepare Sophie’s grave.
Despite the hiatus, The Originals wastes no time throwing the audience headlong back into action–”Long Way Back From Home”‘s cold open is one of the best the show’s done yet. Everything is spot-on, from Claire Holt’s acting to director Hasting’s choice of shots to the creepy flashbacks juxtaposed with Rebekah’s fracturing mental state. The best shows know how to draw the audience into characters’ emotions rather than simply show them, and Hastings does a great job making the audience feel as crazy...

Alphas Review, Season 2, Episode 13, “God’s Eye”
Written by Bruce Miller
Directed by Matt Hastings
Airs Mondays at 8pm (Et) on SyFy
It’s time for the big showdown between Dr. Rosen and Stanton Parish. The entire season has been building to this moment, but it lacks the predictable fireworks of the typical finale. Suffering from the gunshot he received at the end of last week, Rosen is barely holding it together while still hoping to avenge his daughter’s murder. She appears to him as a vision of calm rage and keeps his doubts about this venture from growing too strong. It’s an interesting way to show the angry side of Rosen’s personality while his body deals with his injury. Meanwhile, Parish is making final preparations for his plan to cleanse the world of much of humanity. It’s clear the weight of this undertaking is affecting him.
