TV One is spinning off its popular and successful series Unsung, launching an offshoot titled Unsung Hollywood, which will premiere on February 26, 2014. Unlike the network's successful Unsung, which is a music biography franchise (and which returns on January 29), Unsung Hollywood's focus will be on the stars of film and television primarily. Already lined up as subjects of individual episodes are Pam Grier, Robin Harris, Kadeem Hardison, Dick Gregory, Flip Wilson and others. As is the case with Unsung, episodes of Unsung Hollywood will include the usual talking head interviews and archival clips. Here's a preview of what's coming:...

February-Themed Black History Month is still going strong this week with 1992′s “Bébé’s Kids.” Based on the Robin Harris stand-up bit, “Bébé’s Kids” was the first cartoon movie to feature an African-American main cast. However, it was mainly picked for nostalgic reasons. Will it hold up for the guys? Will it be another Rock-a-Doodle? Perhaps. Listen and enjoy!

Chicago – While some stand-up comics shield themselves with an ironic, larger-than-life persona, Kevin “Dot Com” Brown’s approach is more conversational. He mines the humor in his own life while developing a genial rapport with the audience. Some may still find him to be larger than life, but that would most likely be due to his formidable size.
After sharpening his acting chops on stage and screen, Brown got his big break when he was cast as “Dot Com,” the stage-trained actor in Tracy Morgan’s entourage on Tina Fey’s hit NBC sitcom, “30 Rock.” Shortly after Brown’s special appearance at April’s C2E2 convention, Hollywood Chicago spoke with him about his accidental entry into show business, his longtime friendship with Tracy Morgan and how his background as a bodyguard helped him land movie roles.

Red Foxx, Richard Pryor, Bill Cosby, Wanda Sykes, Dave Chappelle... say any of their names to a serious fan of comedy and you're likely to elicit a reverential sigh of importance, followed by a word-for-word recitation of one of their most famous bits.
Black performers have played a pivotal role not just in entertainment, but in changing the way blacks and whites in America lived, worked and related to each other. And comedians especially, with their penchant for crossing lines and speaking uncomfortable truths, have been some of the most influential artists of the last century.
In honor of Black History Month, we wanted to take a look at the influence of black comedians through the eyes of the artists who are following in their footsteps.
So we brought six up-and-coming young comics together for a unique roundtable discussion about comedy, race and the most influential performers of the past and present.

Comedian Jasper Redd is an intriguing mass of contradictions. If he had his druthers, his entire routine would be all about race, but he counts Jerry Seinfeld's trivial observations as a major influence. Even though he's often dressed up in Western attire to celebrate his Tennessee heritage, he's as savvy about the vagaries of Hollywood as any longtime Los Angeleno. And even though he's being doing comedy for almost a decade professionally, he admits that it's only recently that he's felt confident about being a stand-up.
We were lucky enough to see Redd for the first time a few years ago when he performed in Los Angeles to commemorate the release of "Frankenhood," a straight-to-dvd movie that was his first - and as of today, last - acting job. Since then, he's been traveling across the country to various venues, including college campuses, and bringing with him a comedic...

Once again we have an interview at the Robin Harris Tribute several weeks back, and this time we stop and talk to the very funny comedian Aj Jamal. This comedian is used to flying under the radar and as usual he is his funny self even at the tribute. We get a chance to discuss what Robin Harris meant to him and we also ask about his upcoming projects. Check out the interview!

We caught up with actor and producer Clifton Powell at the Robin Harris Tribute last week and we asked him about Hollywood and how Robin Harris helped him. Not sure on who Powell is, well, he was in many black films including Next Friday, Deep Cover, Dead Presidents, Menace II Society, Rush Hour, and The Brothers (just to name a few).
Anyway, at this tribute we got a chance to talk to him about the event and we also got a couple of more things from him- check it out!
