Ron Harper, star of “Land of the Lost” and the 1974 “Planet of the Apes” series, has died, according to media reports. He was 91.
His daughter, Nicole Longeuay, told the Hollywood Reporter on Monday that he died of natural causes on Thursday at his West Hills home in Los Angeles.
The late actor, who was born Robert Ronald Harper, grew up in Turtle Creek, Pennsylvania, outside of Pittsburgh. If you've watched The Last Dance, then you know that the series focuses just as much on Michael Jordan's basketball career as it does his relationships - both on and off the court - with his teammates. ESPN's 10-part sports documentary revolves around the 1997-98 Chicago Bulls season (which is considered the peak of Mj's career), and some of Michael's former teammates are definitely not happy with how they were portrayed, including Horace Grant, Bill Cartwright, Craig Hodges, Ron Harper, and even Scottie Pippen. Apparently, Dennis Rodman isn't too happy with Mj, either, but instead of coming to his own defense, he spoke out in support of Scottie.
While chatting with ESPN after the release of the doc, Dennis noted that Michael (who helped produce The Last Dance) didn't exactly give Scottie the credit he was due. "Scottie was so underrated - and so underpaid," Dennis said. "He should...

Director John Mackenzie's powerful and captivating 1972 kitchen sink drama Made has been given the opportunity to find a new audience via a tasty UK Blu-Ray release from Network Distributing.
Valerie Marshall (Carol White) is a single mother eking out a meagre living as a London telephone exchange operator whilst simultaneously caring for her multiple-sclerosis-stricken mother (Margery Mason). Seemingly destined never to find true happiness and weary of the inapposite attentions of would-be suitors, Valerie agrees to assist priest and family friend Father Dyson (John Castle) in chaperoning a bunch of underprivileged youths on a day trip to the seaside. There she meets folk singer Mike Preston (Roy Harper), whose outwardly relaxed approach to life just might pave her way to salvation.
A slightly ponderous and largely dispiriting snapshot of early 1970s lower class Britain, I'll openly confess that when I first saw Made I was convinced it would leave me cold.

Fans are drumming up support for a "Garrison's Gorillas" TV movie based on the 1967 ABC TV series, featuring a "Dirty Dozen" scenario of training Allied prisoners for World War II military missions.
The original TV stories focused on a sordid group of 'wronged-guys', recruited from stateside prisons to use specialized criminal skills against the Third Reich during World War II.
The men were promised a parole at the end of the war if they made the grade. And if they lived. The alternative was an immediate return to prison. If they ran, they could expect execution for desertion.
The four main characters were con-man 'Actor' (Cesare Danova), safecracker 'Casino' (Rudy Solari), cat burglar 'Goniff' (Christopher Cary) and native American 'Chief ' (Brendan Boone).

"Garrison's Gorillas" was an ABC TV series broadcast 1967-1968, with a total of 26 hour-long episodes produced. The series was 'inspired' by the 1967 war action feature "The Dirty Dozen", which featured a similar scenario of training Allied prisoners for World War II military missions.

That bomb that dropped in Los Angeles about a month ago? That wasn’t the Land Of The Lost feature film. It was the revelation that 1970’s/80’s teen idol Wesley Eure, the original “Will Marshall” from the television version, the star of Days Of Our Lives, the shower nozzle masturbation fantasy material (to quote Heathers) for legions of teenage girls, is gay.
Perhaps I overstate. But Eure’s AfterElton.com interview was certainly a “Holy sh*t!” moment for many 40-something women whose dreams were crushed, and many 40-something men whose dreams came true.

The new Land of the Lost movie is being released today. It's a parody of the 1974 series and stars Will Ferrell, Anna Friel, Danny McBride, and Jorma Taccone. Though the tone is very different, the film does incorporate a lot of elements from the original TV show. The dreaded Sleestaks, monkey-boy Cha-Ka, and Grumpy the dinosaur are all along for the ride. Unfortunately, some other familiar faces from the TV show didn't make it to the big screen.
The original Land of the Lost TV series stars Spencer Milligan, Wesley Eure, Kathy Coleman, Ron Harper, and Philip Paley as Cha-Ka. It ran on Saturday mornings and revolves around an explorer father and his two children who find themselves transported to a strange alternate universe. The show ran for just three seasons and only 43 episodes were produced.

Out now from McFarland Publishing, the hefty tome features in-depth chats with 23 such personages, many of which hail from classic fantasy television.
“In addition to all the movie people interviewed in the book, there are also a number of TV stars,” Weaver tells us, going on to name a few: “Ron Harper talking about his Planet Of The Apes series and why it was so short-lived, Jimmy Lydon on Rocky Jones, Space Ranger, Robert Conrad talking about the stunts of The Wild Wild West, James Darren and Robert Colbert on The Time Tunnel and my favorite, what might be the first-ever three-way chat with the three stars of Tom Corbett Space Cadet: Frankie Thomas, Jan Merlin and Al Markim.

The controversial MembershipFirst faction of SAG announced Friday a slate of 33 potential candidates who will vie for openings on the national and local boards and go head-to-head with the newly formed opposition group, Unite for Strength.
Among the actors looking to fill Hollywood's 11 national board seats and 22 local seats are 11 new MembershipFirst candidates, including Scott Bakula, Keith Carradine, Charles Shaughnessy and Joely Fisher. Also on the slate are 22 incumbents to the board, including JoBeth Williams, Joe Bologna, and Lainie Kazan.
The announcement of the candidates comes a day before a crucial SAG national board meeting Saturday and two days after Unite for Strength announced its intention to contest seats held by those in MembershipFirst. Unite's 31 candidates include Amy Brenneman, Kate Walsh and Doug Savant.
MembershipFirst came to power in 2005 and currently dominates the Hollywood board, holding the majority of seats as well as backing current president Alan Rosenberg. The group is the controlling voice in the SAG contract negotiations with the Alliance of Motion Picture & Television Producers, which is currently at a stand still.
Unite for Strength blames MembershipFirst for its hardline approach to the negotiations as well as its anti-aftra sentiment, which led to the unsuccessful campaign to get members to vote down the sister union's primetime/TV deal with the AMPTP.
In its announcement, MembershipFirst said its goals for the coming year include uniting "all actors under the Screen Actors Guild banner, protect actors wages and working conditions in all areas, fight for residuals in all media platforms, protect the right of every dues paying member to vote on SAG issues and to secure complete jurisdiction in new media."
Unite for Strength's main goal is to merge SAG with AFTRA, something the MembershipFirst faction has bitterly opposed in the last two attempts in 1999 and 2003.
