Tom Gulbrandsen was born in Oslo, Norway and studied film for four
years at San Diego State University in California. He would go on to
major in dramaturgism and narration at the Institute for Media and
Communication at the University of Oslo.
Very early on Gulbrandsen became a close friend and associate of
director
Harald Zwart. As well as working on several shorts together,
Gulbrandsen also accompanied Zwart when the latter was hired by
Hollywood (Zwart is the first Norwegian member of the Director's Guild
of America). Gulbrandsen took on the part of the unknown behind the
camera but in 2003 it was about to change as he got his first major
Hollywood credit as associate producer on the successful
Agent Cody Banks (2003).
With his broad experience as a script consultant, production manager,
dramaturgist, screenwriter and producer Gulbrandsen has become a much
sought-after lecturer in Norway and its neighbouring countries. In 2002
he also became one of the three powerful script consultants for the
newly established Norwegian Film Fund.
