Alumnus of the longest running historical outdoor play in the United States, The Lost Colony, penned by Paul Green. He was a cast member at the Waterside Theater in Manteo, North Carolina from 1947 - 1953 and was eventually offered the role of Sir Walter Raleigh, a role that he played for five years.

Appeared in an Internet viral video reprising his role as Sheriff Andy Taylor during the 2008 Presidential Election, encouraging voters to vote for Barack Obama, alongside Henry Winkler and Ron Howard.
