In a production of Shakespeare's "Titus Andronicus" at the Mary Worth Theater Company in Minneapolis, he delivered what he says was the bloodiest effect the Twin Cities had ever seen on stage: Under their costumes, between their shoulder blades, the actors playing the two sons who defile Titus' daughter were rigged up with hot-water bottles that served as little blood backpacks. The sons collapsed in a pool of blood that snaked ominously toward the audience.When I talked to him, Sass was planning a bloodfest for his "Macbeth," which runs through Sept. 12 at California Shakespeare Theater.
